Thanks you all.

Roger, you are right. I've just raised the bar for myself here so no halfway recordings from now on.

For those of you who are interested, Mike Trella is the musical talent on the song as well as the man behind the curtain who got it polished. He is one of my friends on my myspace link above and he also plays with Politicks who I've mentioned here before and are also friends on my page. Please have a look and listen to their music as well if you get the chance.

Oh yeah, the finished version of Grey Skies is up on my page now too.

Toney - I know you will likely prefer the acoustic version but I think both are pretty good as he didn't skimp on the backing. Drums, bass and lead guitar are all played from the actual instruments and not synthesized from a box.

Hey Toney - John Prine is a favorite of mine. I was listening to his song Sam Stone the other day and marveling at how a song can be so seemingly simple and yet have such a deep meaning as well. Thank you very much for the compliment.

I try and write songs that take someone who is playing the song or listening to the song to another place in their mind. I guess it could be like relating to a similar memory or better yet picturing a story I’m trying to tell in the song but if I can bring a picture to someone’s head I think I’ve done my job and the better the picture they get the better job I did.  Anyway that’s what this song is about and I hope you like it.

A Painted Song By Jeff Gilpin

December 8th 2007

Intro

[G]

Verse 1

Painting pictures in my [C]mind [D]

That I color with my [G]rhymes [Em]

What will they look like in my [C]head [Am]

And what will others see in[D]stead

Verse 2

Should I paint one full of [C]joy [D]

Memories of my little [G]boy [Em]

Although he’s older current[C]ly [D]

He’ll always be my boy to [G]me

Chorus

The [C]words flow like [D]paint

On the [G]canvas of the [Em]mind

The [C]music sets the [D]mood

Put to[G]gether we can [Em]find

[C]How the picture looks to [D]me

[C]Though you may see it different[D]ly [D7]

Verse 3

Maybe I’ll paint a song that’s [C]sad [D]

About an experience that I [G]had [Em]

That disappointed in the [C]end [Am]

But how should I be[D]gin

Verse 4

Better yet a song that’s [C]crazy [D]

About goofing off or being [G]lazy [Em]

It doesn’t have to mean a [C]thing [D]

Just a song I like to [G]sing

Chorus

The [C]words flow like [D]paint

On the [G]canvas of the [Em]mind

The [C]music sets the [D]mood

Put to[G]gether we can [Em]find

[C]How the picture looks to [D]me

[C]Though you may see it different[D]ly [D7]

Verse 5

I think I’ll paint a meta[C]phor [D]

About something I a[G]dore [Em]

Like writing songs that catch your [C]ear [Am]

And paint a picture you can [D]hear

Verse 6

I hope I paint my lyrics [C]true [D]

So that a picture comes to [G]you [Em]

As you hear the words I [C]sing [D]

I'll Imagine what you’re pictu[G]ring

Chorus

The [C]words flow like [D]paint

On the [G]canvas of the [Em]mind

The [C]music sets the [D]mood

Put to[G]gether we can [Em]find

[C]How the picture looks you [D]see

I [C]hope you get to [D]see it just like [G]me

My wife and I were talking about places where we want to retire and this is what popped into my head. Of course it would be tough for someone of retirement age living in the back woods of the Smokey Mountains but lordy would that just grand.  smile Well I think it would at least. I hope you all like the song.

Living Up in the Smokeys By Jeff Gilpin

December 6th, 2007

Intro

[G] [D] [A]

Verse 1

I [A]think I’d like to [G]live up in the [D]Smokeys

As [A]far away from [G]cities as I could [D]be

[A]Life would be much [G]simpler in the [D]Smokeys

[G]Living that mountain [D]life and being [A]free

Verse 2

I’d get up awful [G]early to watch the [D]sunrise

[A]Work my chores all [G]day as the day goes [D]by

[A]Get back home and [G]clean up just in [D]time for

The [G]sun to slip a[D]way out of the [A]sky

Chorus

[C]Doing what[E]ever I [G]please [D]

Living up in the Smo[A]keys

Verse 3

[A]Living up [G]in those ancient [D]mountains

The [A]whistling wind [G]blowing through the [D]trees

Not a [A]sound to be [G]heard unless I [D]make it

As I [G]rustling through a [D]pile of fallen [A]leaves

Verse 4

[A]Waking up on a [G]cold mountain [D]morning

[A]Stirring up the [G]fire trying to get [D]warm

[A]Looking out at the [G]land around the [D]cabin

[G]Checking if the [D]skies are going to [A]storm

Chorus

[C]Doing what[E]ever I [G]please [D]

Living up in the Smo[A]keys

Verse 5

[A]I’d take breaks as [G]often as I’d [D]need to

[A]Play my guitar a [G]few times a [D]day

The [A]trees would seems to [G]sway with the [D]rhythm

Of the [G]music that I’d [D]make up as I’d [A]play

Verse 6

[A]That’s my wish for [G]when I’m finally [D]ready

To [A]set aside this [G]rat race that I’m [D]in

[A]A place without [G]bars, cars or [D]wars

My [G]finish line as the [D]race comes to an [A]end

Chorus

[C]Doing what[E]ever I [G]please [D]

Living up in the Smo[A]keys

Ending Chorus

I’m [C]praying [E]down on my [G]knees [D]

Lord let me make it to the Smo[G]keys [A]

Traite - Each and everyone is just great. I especially liked Hungry Line as it reminded me of soccer or proper football as I have heard it refered to by my friends on the other side of the pond. Well done on each and every one!

Hey Toney - I would like to take credit for all of it but for this I just did the singing and my friend Mike Trella arranged, played all the instruments and made it what it is. I just had to worry about the singing this time which was enough and took a good long while to get down and synced up and yes I overdubbed the vocals as was the harmony.

Just watching the flakes and smelling the damp cold snowy air tonight made me think of all those times growing up when it would snow and all the joy that brought. I hope you all like the song.

First Snow of the Winter By Jeff Gilpin

December 5th, 2007

Verse 1

[G]First snow

[CMaj7]Of the [G]winter

[CMaj7]I re[G]member

[CMaj7]Early De[G]cember

It [D]didn’t have to [C]stick a[G]round

It was [D]just great [C]watching it come [G]down

[D]Watching the flakes all [C]floating to the [CMaj7]ground

Verse 2

[G]Childhood

[CMaj7]Days re[G]membered

Like they [CMaj7]never [G]ended

Old [CMaj7]age re[G]scinded

[D]Looking [C]back at snowy [G]days

The [D]smell and [C]chill come back through the [G]haze

[D]As my [C]spirits seem to [CMaj7]raise

Chorus 1

[C]Man life was [G]simple then

The [D]only war [C]was a snowball [G]fight

The [C]sheer magic of watching [G]snow falling down

Still launches my imagination into [D]flight

Verse 3

[G]Sledding

[CMaj7]Down a [G]hillside

[CMaj7]Had some [G]wild rides

[CMaj7]I can’t [G]decide

Which [D]I liked better [C]riding or wiping [G]out

[D]Both I guess but [C]I really [G]doubt

I [D]really know [C]what it was all a[CMaj7]bout

Verse 4

[G]It wasn’t just

A[CMaj7]bout the [G]snow

Of [CMaj7]that I [G]know

But [CMaj7]even [G]so

The [D]snow was just a [C]reason to be a [G]kid

[D]Messing around and [C]doing what we [G]did

Like [D]when we got called [C]in and just [CMaj7]hid

Chorus 2

[C]Man life was [G]simple then

Those [D]flakes [C]floating down just like [G]cotton

You [C]felt like you were stuck in a [G]snow globe

Times like that aren’t easily for[D]gotten

Verse 5

[G]That’s enough

Of [CMaj7]looking [G]back there

Not [CMaj7]that I [G]don’t care

[CMaj7]But it’s [G]not where

I [D]am right now or [C]plan on going [G]to

Those [D]days were great but I [C]still have quite a [G]few

More [D]years left with [C]tons of stuff to [CMaj7]do

Verse  6

It [G]won’t all

[CMaj7]Be like [G]magic

But [CMaj7]if I [G]can pick

[CMaj7]And I can [G]trick

My [D]mind into for[C]getting times less [G]fun

And re[D]membering [C]more of my time in the [G]sun

I’ll be [D]satisfied [C]when my day’s are [CMaj7]done

Chorus 3

It’s [C]funny how the [G]simple times

Are the [D]ones you re[C]member and hold [G]dear

[C]Like the first snow of the [G]season

That comes round only once a [CMaj7]year

Grey Skies - Acoustic is now up on my page. I broke down and went to my friend's house and recorded this in his home studio. He has loads more experience at recording and he is very particular on getting it right so this has taken quite a while. Stop by and have a listen and if you like it feel free to download the song.

A long time ago I helped out a friend delivering papers. I got car sick with all the driving around and swore I would never do it again. Even knowing what a pain-in-the-butt job it is I still find myself sometimes complaining about my paper being a little damp or not thrown in the right spot. So this song is dedicated to those unsung heroes, the newspaper delivery men and women. I hope you like it and I hope you are generous with delivery person this year too.

Working on a Holiday By Jeff Gilpin

December 3rd, 2007

Intro

[F] [C] [A]

Verse 1

[D7]Holiday’s coming

Can’t wait till it’s here

But there’s someone who works

Every day of the year

[G]They can’t take a break

Because every day they’re on the [D7]clock

So the [A]holiday you’re sleeping in

You can [F]bet your bottom [C]dollar they are [D7]not

Chorus

The [G]job of newspaper delivery

[A]Most certainly is [G]not the job for [D7]me

So [G]come on everyone let’s give them a hand

For your [F]delivery lady or [C]perhaps you’re your delivery [D7]man [A]

Verse 2

They [D7]get the job done

The majority of the time

But just screw it up once

It’s like they committed a crime

[G]Customer calls a screaming

Totally out of their [D7]mind

Their [A]paper got wet

Or [F]worse they didn’t [C]get it on [D7]time

Chorus

The [G]job of newspaper delivery

[A]Most certainly is [G]not the job for [D7]me

So [G]come on everyone let’s give them a hand

For your [F]delivery lady or [C]perhaps you’re your delivery [D7]man [A]

Verse 3

[D7]Here it is now

The season of giving

So let’s all remember

It’s what they do for a living

Dig [G]deep into your pockets

And show them how much you [D7]care

On those [A]days you’re sleeping in

They’ll [F]still be [C]getting your paper [D7]there [A]

Chorus

The [G]job of newspaper delive[D7]ry

[A]Most certainly is [G]not the job for [D7]me

So [G]come on everyone let’s give them a [D7]hand

For your [F]delivery lady or [C]perhaps you’re your delivery [D7]man [A]

Ending Chorus

It’s a [G]job but it’s also a sacri[D7]fice

So [A]this year you [G]shouldn’t have to think [D7]twice

The [G]best thank you your deliverer’s ever [D7]seen

Is more [F]newspapers being read and a little [C]card with a whole lot of [A]green[D7]

I’m Seeking You Now By Jeff Gilpin

November 25th, 2007

Intro

[G]

Verse 1

[G]Heaven’s somewhere out there

[G7]But I really want to [C]know

[C7]All the things I have to [G]do

To make it [D]so [D7]

Chorus 1

So I can [C]get there

Should I [C7]prepare

Or try and keep [G]unaware

It’s confusing to [D]me

So I want to [G]see

Verse 2

[G]Which is the right path

[G7]Believable as they all seem to [C]be

[C7]So many so much a[G]like

At least to [D]me [D7]

Chorus 2

Which to [C]follow

I just don’t [C7]know

Should I try them [G]all

I’m not sure I [D]can

Please give me a [G]hand

Verse 3

[G]I’ll try and talk with you

[G7]As I go through my [C]day

[C7]When I think of these [G]questions

I’ll [D]pray [D7]

Chorus 3

Will you [C]answer

And help me [C7]be sure

To know I’m on the [G]right way

I’m seeking you [D]now

Help me find you some [C]how [G]

Thanks you two.

Jase - I might but to do it right does take a while and I've settled in the past and ended up with songs that were not as good as I can do them. I do have quite a few queued up and this will go into the queue.

Lena - Yes, very frustrating to want something and be seemingly unable to do anything about it. One of the reasons I write is to get the frustration out.

Just a song by a disgruntled parent of a solder speaking his and other people's feelings that have been loudly expressed but as yet it seems not heard.

Are You Listening? By Jeff Gilpin

December 2nd, 2007

Intro

[G]

Verse 1

[G]Are you out there are you listening

[Em]Or are we just wasting our time

[G]It’s like we’re saying the same thing over and over

[Em]You say you’re listening but you’re lying

Chorus

[C]How can we get through to you

[G]What mechanism should we use

[C]We’re pretty sure we’re being crystal clear

But [D]you still have the power to a[D7]buse

Verse 2

[G]You’re in power because of the people

[Em]More of us liked what you said

[G]But we thought that you would listen

[Em]Before many more ended up dead

Chorus

[C]How can we get through to you

[G]What mechanism should we use

[C]We’re pretty sure we’re being crystal clear

[D]But you still have the power to a[D7]buse

Verse 3

[G]Is it because you don’t believe us

[Em]Do you think we speak untrue

Well [G]we’re speaking from our hearts

[Em]What more can we do

Chorus

[C]How can we get through to you

[G]What mechanism should we use

[C]We’re pretty sure we’re being crystal clear

[D]But you still have the power to a[D7]buse

Ending Chorus

[C]The system eventually helps us

[G]But we’ll have to wait to see

If the [C]next ones we choose

[D]Can fix this broken war for you and [D7]me[Em]

When I visit James' Myspace Page and listen to his music I can help feel a bit of nostalgia. I grew up listening to bluegrass music that I just thought of as music at the time and there were all sorts of instruments that I don’t hear very often in much of today’s music. So this is my way of saying thanks to James for giving me a low cost trip back in time.

Play it for me James By Jeff Gilpin

Intro

[G] [D] [C]

Strikes a [C]chord in my [G]head

From all the mountain [D]music

That was [C]pretty close to [G]dead

[Em]Play that wildwood flower

So [D]sad and so [Em]sweet

And [Em]play me some of your songs

[C]Listening to your [D]tunes

Make [C]me melancho[G]ly

At the mountain youth [D]jamboree

Where [C]many could be [G]found

On sale at [C]every music [G]store

So play it for me [D]James

And I'll keep [C]listening some [G]more

So [D]sad and so [Em]sweet

Thanks Badeye - I really like Crosby Stills and Nash; Guinnevere still gives me goosebumps when I hear it. I'll have the girl home around the 22nd or 23rd but my boy's over in Iraq again for a while.

Thanks Marc - It's kind of a folky tune but I have to play it fairly slow so I can fit all the words in I put in the lyrics. I guess I need to work on that more.

I have a nephew who had a son while he was still in high school and he had to grow up pretty fast to deal with it. Now he's in college and I think he's doing much better than he would have I think if he hadn't had his son. That made me consider how my family and specificly having children effected my life. My kids are now in serious relationships so I'm sure it will not be too long until they start the same cycle.

Life By Jeff Gilpin

December 1st, 2007

Intro

[D] [E]

Verse 1

[Am]For many years it seems to me

My [G]life has been for [E]family

How[Am]ever noble my life seems

[G]I once had quite [E]different dreams

That now [D]seem [G]

A[E]nother [Am]life

Verse 2

[E]My [Am]life was once only my own

[G]Worry free with[E]out a home

I [Am]came and went just as I choose

But [G]looking back [E]I suppose

That’s how it [D]goes [G]

[E]Going through [Am]life

Chorus 1

I [C]met a girl

We [E]fell in love

Our [G]romance [D]grew and [Am]grew

We [C]married

And we [E]had a child

My [G]carefree life was through [E]

Verse 3

[Am]Then we had another child

And [G]how my mind was [E]going wild

How [Am]to support this family

I [G]had to keep them [E]worry free

My job you [D]see [G]

To pro[E]tect their [Am]life

Verse 4

[E]So I [Am]traded in my carefree style

To [G]work and study [E]for a while

Which [Am]lead to what I am today

[G]Older, wiser but [E] doing okay

With some time to [D]play [G]

At this [E]stage in [Am]life

Chorus 2

I [C]still have my girl

And [E]we’re still in love

With [G]romance [D]still in our [Am]hearts

[C]Many years of

[E]Raising our kids

[G]But now a different life starts [E]

Verse 5

We [Am]have some time to do our things

And [G]fear not what to[E]morrow brings

We [Am]watch as our children mature

[G]And they start care[E]free for sure

How long will it [D]endure [G]

[E]In their [Am]life

Verse 6

[E]So [Am]long ago those carefree days

So [G]distant looking [E]through the haze

Where [Am]would I be without the girl

Or [G]children brought in[E]to this world

Like an oyster with no [D]pearl [G]

I thank [E]God for this [Am]life

Chorus 3

[C]My little girl

[E]Is all grown up

[G]My boy [D]is quite a [Am]man

[C]How long I wonder

[E]Until they both hold

[G]Their own children’s hands [E] [D] [Am]

In the morning I have to go in and do blood work for a physical I have coming up on the 4th and I’m well into the fasting part of the night, so I’m a little cranky. I cannot remember any time when I was a kid that I had to fast for anything. I also remember that when I was a kid I wanted to be older but I never thought of the down side of being older. Slowing down metabolism, old injuries coming back to remind me of them and the ever constant going to work to pay for all that needs paying for. So that’s where I got the idea which I originally titled Getting Old Sucks but later revised to what you see below. I hope you all like it.

The Young and the Old of It By Jeff Gilpin

November 29th, 2007

Intro

[C]

Verse 1

[G]A long time a[D]go

I [G]had this simple [D]dream

[C]When I grew [F]up

I’d do [C]almost any[D]thing

Verse 2

Well [G]here I am all growed[D] up

Way [G]past where I set my [D]sights

And [C]all those things I [F]planned

Well [C]I think I just [D]might…

Chorus 1

[C]Forget about them for now

Because I’m [Em]working in the morning

[G]Anyway it’s getting [C]late and I’m pretty [D]tired

If I did [C]some of those things I wanted

I’d most [Em]likely get bad hurt

And the [G]others would most [D]likely get me [G]fired

Verse 3

[G]Back then it [D]seemed

What you [G]got for being [D]older

Was [C]unlimited [F]access

To a [C]life that was much [D]bolder

Verse 4

[G]But as you grow [D]older

[G]You finally can [D]see

The [C]down side of [F]what

[C]Growing up can [D]be

Chorus 2

[C]Forget about it for now

My [Em]sights are on different things

[G]Like a little [C]time think and re[D]flect

[C]What I wanted as a kid

Now makes me [Em]shake my head and laugh

[G]Aging not quite [D]like what you’d ex[G]pect

Verse 5

[G]So as I pre[D]pare for

A[G]nother wellness [D]check

I i[C]magine the younger [F]me

Thinking [C]this is not cor[D]rect

Verse 6

[G]But the older [D]me

[G]Now has younger [D]dreams

[C]Of those yearsa[F]go

I could do [C]almost any[D]thing

Chorus 3

[C]I’d be hard to navigate

I [Em]can’t get there from here

At [G]least I can’t [C]from this place and [D]time

So in[C]stead I’ll eat a little less

[Em]Workout a little more

And [G]strum a little [D]while I search for [G]rhymes
