These aren't stage monitors. Ours get thrashed, which is why we don't spend a whole lot of money on 'em. So long as I can hear the vocal mix on stage, I'm generally content with a stage monitor.
I've had a mild case of GAS for recording and mixing stuff. Sweet Irish Thing is coming in a few days to buy furniture for the house. She's also buying a TV, so my master plan is to convince her that so long as we're sporting for the Stoopid Box, we may as well get some nice *cough*speakers*cough* and call it an entertainment center. ![]()
Low E on a bass is around 40Hz. Most affordable studio monitors have a response curve from ~50-60Hz.
Is this going to be a big deal, or am I going to hear a difference?
Its almost punk rock. not bad at all. I like the frist couple of verses
It's a very hard driving song. I put down a rhythm track and a bass track last night. 120 BPM in 4/4. Nothing complex. Then I broke out the Dot and turned the gain up on the tube amp to record some lead. Didn't finish as I was having too much fun wanking.
I'll try again later this week when I have a spare moment, and a little more self discipline.
I like the lyrics jerome.
Have you recorded this and chucked it on myspace? or your space on myspace? Also who is "Ezikiel"
Ken
I just wrote it last night. I'll take it to the band next practice, and we'll probably go public with it next month some time.
I've got a little MR8 recorder, so I'll put together a rough copy just to have some kind of arrangement. If it turns out, I'll put it up.
Ezikiel is a prophet from the Bible, who had a vision of God showing up on a chariot with wheels made of fire. There's an old hymnal about "Ezekiel saw two wheels a'burnin' way in the middle of the sky..."
I banged this out last night. Super easy.

Good question Jerome !
I have asked some of the loyal rugby followers here . WHA ? was the answer ! Ah, will ya goway, and stop annoin us, we won it didnt we ? who cares! now away wit ya, and let us enjoy our boozy hazy glorious grand slam hangovers.
have i the answer ? No
But to quote " Huw Richards" It is no fluke, then, that the term 'Grand Slam' was coined in 1957 to greet England's all-four of that year. Since then only 12 of the 27 teams who have won the Triple Crown - and none of the five Irish XVs - have been capable of turning the Crown into a Slam".
[ Teehee . He needs to change that piece fast.]
Grand Slam" is a bridge term for winning all of the tricks in a hand. It come into sport first through Golf to honour the achievement of Bobby Jones in winning all of the then four golf majors in one season i.e The Open and Amateur championships and their US equivalents. It was then adopted by other sports including Tennis and it would seem Baseball for similar achievements.
Ps. Jerome ! How can your baseball team win a "World Series " ? when its only held in the USA ?.
Old Doll.
Bobby Jones won the Grand Slam in 1930, but professional baseball has been around since the 1870s. The 1st World Series grand slam was in 1920, so the term predates that. I didn't know it was a cribbage term. I'll check into that.
And we call it the World Series because it's the greatest game in the world!
Another great Seattle Area band.
They played my high school in like 1983. Saw 'em live. ![]()
Just curious about the term "Grand Slam."
It comes from American Baseball (the greatest game ever) meaning a batter hits a home run (swats the ball out of the park) while all three bases have runners, scoring four points.
How is the term used over on the other side of the pond? From whence does it stem?
"carve up and scarf up your juice..."
That's good stuff, literally and figuratively. ![]()
The triads you can play over E major are...
E F#m Gm A B C#m Ddim
E minor is the relative minor of G Major. As such, you can play the following triads over E minor.
G Am Bm C D Em Fdim
Generally, if you're in a major key, you'll want the I IV and V at a minimum.
I knew the latest band I joined was going to be successful when I saw audience members doing what I call "the snakedance". they would gyrate in their seats - even while eating or talking to someone.
We call that "the bob." If we can get the entire bar doing the head bob, we figure we're in the pocket and grooving.
There is an excellent fictionalization of Patrick called "I am of Irelund" that relates a telling of the old Celt legends (Fionn mac Cumhaill and the Fianna, etc...) through the "ghost" of the poet Oisin.
It's a fantastic work.
75 years old. 95 lbs soaking wet. A nun too boot.
She drank me under the table.
Johhny Cash and Justin Townes Earle.
It depends. If you're doing your own arrangement, it doesn't make a whole lot of difference. Intervals are intervals, although you may find some difference in the chord voicings.
Depends on what I'm playing, but I'm generally a 234 type. I like having my index finger free for other things.
Music theory is important but a good ear and creativity is more important. You should look at theory as a tool for your creativity!
Thats a good way of putting it. Just like an artist with brush and paint will follow some simple rules of color and dimension to make art, so do musicians follow a few simple rules to frame their work, too.
I loved those things. Used to get in soooo much trouble.
Phrygian. At least until this dang song is done.
Pentatonics will work fine if you're in an open key, but the patterns you're used to playing won't.
You'll just need to re-learn the scale patterns for it. Toney's link provides a pretty useful tool to help sort you out.
If you're going to play bass, you have to know scales. There are only five patterns to learn that will open the entire fretboard for you.
Learn 'em, live 'em, love 'em.
My 1st guitar was a gift from a close friend, so I felt I had an obligation to play it.
Still paying that forward.
Lost Highway - Hank Williams
Does that count? ![]()
I just bought a little Fostex MR-8 mk II digital tracking recorder. I'll use Reaper to do the editing and final mixdown, but overall, I like what it does.
