Wow thats really good man... are there more verses?? Loved the instrumental too, you oughta try to find some equipment and dub that electric work over the acoustic track...
Loved it,

Re: MTV makes great artist suck (12 replies, posted in Bands and artists)
Agreed last_rebel. And for some legitimate bands the video thing actually helped. I'd have to say I enjoyed the pre-MTV ZZ Top stuff way more than the Eliminator album but it was a huge commercial success. And having a blues based commercial success is good. It might make someone dive into the genre and find great little known artists. I'm not saying MTV is bad but I think it was bad for popular music. Do you think the Back Street Boys and N'Sync would have had the commercial success they realized had it not been for MTV? If you listen to the music (and I personally try not to) it wouldn't hold up well against most unsigned artists. I'm not saying they're talentless or they suck just that the music doesn't stand by itself. It's part of the marketed package and without the package there's no success.
Oh yeah I agree with you, 99% of mainstream artists played on the MTV make me literally sick to my stomache. And also, it seemed like when it all first started catching on, that it was a Rock thing but now theres as much hip-hop and R&B on there as anything...
That being said, the idea of the music video isn't all together bad (like with the ZZ Top thing, it gives good bands another way to connect with thier fans and get thier new singles out there), but seems to me like they took it too far, making the visual more important than the sound. And MTV pushes certain bands and artists down your throat, which I guess would be a great oppurtunity for an artist, but the standards they use to choose WHICH bands seems to be based on how they can market looks and ot music.

i gotta say though, the zz top videos were always cool, and they're still an awesome band even after thier fiasco with MTV in the 80s

Good one JAmes! (as usual)...
I picture this one painfully slow, alone with a guitar at 4 in the morning, sung like there's nobody to hear....
Anyway I loved it,

Re: When you hit a wall (19 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I'll second the playing with other people thing, that's always fun. I even taught a couple of my cousins how to play.
When you can't do that though, finding new songs on your same skill level helps, or even tackling one thats a little harder. Building your song repetoire makes it less monotinous. Practicing scales and all thats important, but can get a little tedious after a while. Sometimes you need a break from the technical stuff to just play.

Re: printing problems (3 replies, posted in About Chordie)
Tibernius, thanks I didn't even think about that but thats probly what the problem is...
Roger, the version I tried to print was called stairway to heaven perfect, I found it by searching so I guess there's no way of finding its exact file location... As for wordpad whenever I copy and paste it really mixes it up and I have to go through and re-align it, which works but its pretty time consuming.
Thanks for the help yall I'll go try it again

Okay I've been having two problems with printing tabs,
1) not all the pages print, when I printed out stairway to heaven I only got the first and last page and the others just ran through but stayed blank. My ink's full I know because I just changed it.
2) When they DO print the tabs aren't aligned right, is there something I can do to make it print excatly like I see it or is everyone else's doing the same thing?

Re: About the generations on chordie (32 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I'm 17, but most of my music's alot older than me. I like rock ( like Ac/Dc and Metallica, Zeppelin, ZZtop, the Allman Brothers, BLS, Guns N Roses... um yeah different stuff), blues, country (mostly older, Waylon and Willie, Johnny Cash, HAnk etc.), some old soul, bluegrass, gospel... pretty much anything but rap.
I play mostly acoustic, I like the rawness of it (and plus I'm no good at electric, but I have fun plunking around on it), pick lead or strum along by ear, I can do barre chords fairly well now, and I play around with all kinds of tabs and stuff...
Just havin' fun with it ![]()

Re: GIRLS & BOYS (10 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I'm a girl... (hopefully most of yall knew that by now lol). Country, blues, rock, bluegrass, gospel, and pretty much anything except rap because there's not much room for instruments in there.
I play mostly acoustic, so when I do play rock its slightly altered to fit the instrument, but as far as taste goes heavy's just fine with me. As for influences, some of my fav. guitarists to watch would be:
SRV
Zack Wylde
Dickie Betts
Billy Gibbons
Willie Nelson

Thanks lots southpaw
Thats really interesting the bass strings on his guitar, never thought about it before but I bet that opens all kinds of doors to new sounds and combinations....
I noticed on the youtube video 'ball and a biscuit' he had one that I didn't recognize, the body shape kind of reminded me of one of muddy waters' old gretsch guitars, and the solo was awesome.
Thanks again,

So I stumbled across this band recently when I went looking for new music (following an aboscure and little known trail that started somewhere with shooter jennings and the raconteurs), and I was wondering if there were any fans that could give me some review (I've learned from wiki they're from detroit, the lead singer and guitarist apparently Jack White who I'd call pretty descent), maybe what yall think of them or the album I should buy first if I want to start listening to them...
They have sort of a classic feel to me, kind of a raw unpolished sound thats refreshing with all the over synthesized 'out of the can' music on the radio these days. I've heard it said they've got a led zeppelinish sound, but anyway opinions?

Wow I've been gone awhile, and apparently have been missing some good stuff. I'm looking for a word that means 'you put alot of thought into the words' to describe this...
And its nice that you have a vision beyond just the chords for this song, helps us imagine what it would sound like actually performed.
Kudos!,

Re: About LANGUAGE (19 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Hi yall I've been out for a while but I just came in and HAD to throw in my two cents on this one....
Its interesting to me how much music seems to play a role in behavior these days. I think maybe the attention shift from sound to visual brought on by MTV and etc.s (not that vudeos are the only culprit I'm sure there are plenty of other factors) has helped start an infactuation with the lifestyle and persona that music portrays, and not so much an interest in music for music's sake. Personally (and mainly simply because of the profanity used) I don't care for rap music., but the whole "Gangsta" fad is a cultural phase that has far outgrown any kind of musical movement, even to the extent that people without any real passion for rap music itself tack the gangster label to thier forehead.
That being said, when you have a strong set of morals, and know what you believe is right and wrong, there's nothing wrong with appreciating any form of music FOR THE MUSIC'S SAKE. The difference is the T.V and radio didn't raise you, your parents did, and you have sense enough to realize a good song is still justa good song, not neccesarily a guidebook to life.

Re: Metal? (13 replies, posted in Electric)
System of a Down is not freakin' metal
.
Metallica is metal. Pantera is metal. Hell, even Cradle of Filth, Children of Bodom, and Atreyu are metal. System of a Down is poorly disguised emo music. Nothing wrong with SOAD, but it's not metal.
And yeah, I'm into old-school metal. Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Metallica, that stuff. Also kind of like the new stuff like what I mentioned.
I do LIKE system of a down though... but yeah not metal

I was under the impression you play it with one of those finger deals you use on slide guitar, (which would make sense I guess since its an open chord tuning), but thats about all I know....
and yeah Roy Clark's a good one to listen to. I've been checking out alot of bluegrass music here lately just listening to the banjo parts...
Thanks again,

So my bro had this brand new banjo he never plays, and he was wantin to buy my old clarinet, but decided we could trade instead. So I wanna learn how to play, so far this is about all I know: Its tuned to open G....
I play the guitar and a little mandolin so I can pick up on strings pretty quickly usually just wondering if anybody had tips for a beginner...
Thanks in advance,
LR
