Hey Ark, Thanks for quick return. While pondering over this it seems I failed to mention
my mixer is not usb so the only route available is out the mixer via rca connections to
the mic input on the hp. Is your set-up usb? Man this stuff is way over my head! This is
the main reason to get a all in one setup-but I will fight thru this!! You mentioned using
a soundcard. Here maybe lies the problem. I was hoping that the recording(practice)
could be done without one? Guess I need to go back over the tutorials some more and
  more....lol.        Thanks again, Mike

Okay - bought a digitech processor awhile back and got free cubase le4 software. Really
didn't want to go the computer route of recording and have been looking into the all in-
one outfits that you can burn your cd's on the spot. Well after dropping my HP on the
floor and 200 bucks later I caved to use what I have. Loaded cubase and have been
watching tutorials on youtube. Have no interface so I'm going into my 16 channel Tascam
m164fx with a mic, and back out to the mic input on the hp as directed by the tutorial.

However-I do not get the option of audio when trying to record. Once I click on the "new
project" audio should be an option according to the tutorial. Anyone familiar with cubase
   le4? Thanks, Mike

Agreed. I have to give Russells' packers the edge but would not put $$ on it.

Hey Gabby, Couldn't help but notice the suggestion box is nearly empty for exception
of toots' idea which is a good one. Might I suggest to google various bluegrass
events or "old time fiddler contests" as Wieser Idaho has each year. Born and raised
in Ohio but relocated in 1980 I haven't a clue of any happenings there now, sorry!

I know for sure that you will meet friendly people that would give you lots of advice
for open mic venues that you might check out at a later time not to mention a load
of fun playin and singin!   Good luck, Mike

Hey Alan, Glad to hear the news you have been spared such a tragedy! The news

clips here are heartbreaking to say the least. Living here in a high rainfall area

I know well how even minor flooding can ruin peoples lives. Lucky that water

drains well here into the Columbia river but many times rock slides and such

comes down. The lower end of the river and tributaries get the worst of the

     flooding here.

So glad you and the Mrs. are safe. Our thoughts and prayers are with you

and all those that have been affected by this.         Mike

P.S.    The Aussie/Kiwi poem:  try plugging the words into " Ghost Riders..."
it fits nicely. Which verse to use for the chorus has stumped me tho.

Good question Dino. Do ya think they use it for charitable tickets for the
unfortunate? Maybe it goes towards charity in general. End of the year
corporate party??lol      Mike

This is exactly why I have given guitars to my nephews in hope they might take an
interest. The oldest has interest but the Marine Corps keeps his mind elsewhere, the
youngest gets pampered by mom and has his eyes glued to a wii game and sadly the
one I thought might truly be inspired we lost in a auto accident. Watching these youngins
just might inspire others to take on the adventure. Thanks BGD! This was awesome. Mike

Will be kicked back watching the Seattle game on a rainy day off from work.
Providing the hawks play like last time I predict a victory. Would like to see
Lynch having a great running day. I've always been for the underdog even if
I don't particularly care for that team. Like Cam I'd put money on the Pats tho.

Hey John, Good advice above. I'll bet most writers start off with the melody like Kap says. No expert here
but maybe experimenting like Pete suggests so to find what works for you. I have songs that came
about both ways. Also whenthe words don't seem to fit try different phrasings and rearranging the
words or inserting dead space or pauses. You can tweek it anyway you want because it is YOUR song.

Let your creative side barr no exeptions. Good luck, Mike

Very cool. Too bad he's not with us anymore. John was right in there learning at the same time SRV.
Stevie was born seventeen days before me. John was a coulple years older. So I better be
thankful I'm still breathing. Do you happen to know how he passed on?

I checked out the vid on his 1934 National and the story behind it--also cool. Thanks for sharing, Mike

     a good game.

groggy friday and fingers were like yours-- sore!! Lots of fun tho. Stayed home friday and behaved.

I'll bet the music was awesome with all the variety and talent there. Wish the noise makers around

here would gather up more often.      Mike

Hi Rickey-- Welcome, Glad to see your newfound interest in playing. You are at the very begining of a new

hobby which can get frustrating at times but have the faith and keep at it. Strumming involves an aquired

feel for the strings with alot of practice. Like others are saying check out vids and any other hands on

material that could help. Ask any member here and they will tell you this is an ongoing learning process.

If you know someone that plays see if they can sit down with you. This may be the way to go. Best of

    luck.   Mike

Wow Nela! Glad to see you score such a deal. 500 watts for monitors is great, even 500 for mains ain't too
bad. Hope this all works well for ya.   Mike

Howdy Tspaxton! Glad to see another northwest musician join up. There are several of us that are
members here in Wa. and Or. Matter of fact Doug Smith is just up the road from you. I am east
of Portland an hour. We have lots in common:  old-short-fat-bald and play guitar, lol. Sounds like
you have lots of ambition building guitars, good for you. Maybe someday I might get to check
out your handy work.  Cheers,    Mike

Hey Cats, another old hippie era type here also. Lots of good folk here with lots of talent as youself.
Trumpet? Cool, my old friend also but haven't picked one since high school. Marching band, concert
band from 6th grade to grad. I remember building your lip muscles up to hit those high notes. All
that has come in handy while on this guitar journey-----musically speaking.    Cheers, Mike

Sorry to burst your bubble but Michael Moore is----is a capitalist in sheeps clothing.

Very funny-- while reading this one of those commercials came on the tube which made me
       laugh even more, thanx Pix.

I'm with you Ed! Many years ago loved heights but not now. Last height adventure was in a hot air
balloon ride in Oregon. BTW--glad to see you are doing well Russell, and semper fi to Toots as
I also can relate although they didn't make me jump from a perfectly good airplane.     Mike

Heya Zurf, Man you got that right. And each time we get to jam with others, we learn something

and who knows-- they may have also. I've put alot of time in learning and practicing and when

someone asks the "how to?", no problem-- here's how. And the really good part is it's usually

    reciprocating.    Take care,  Mike

Hello Crevs, Sure have to agree with Zurf and Deb. You are only limited by your ability to memorize.

By all means use your cheat sheets. I prefer to long hand lyrics(pain in the ...), but it helps etch

at least the first word of a line into my brain housing group.lol After all most players will tell you

if they can remember the first word the rest will follow. Are you concentrating too much on

playing the song correctly distracting your mind from the words? Also, years ago I took a

memory course and this particular way of teaching works if you apply it. I would go into it

further, but I can't seem to remember the name of it?lmao  Just kiddin---Good luck, Mike
