That's a darn shame when anyone cuts their own life short. The world has much to offer, even when it seems that it hasn't.

We are doing just fine, but missing some of our old friends. Hannah Beth, Old Doll, and some guy Alan don't come around much anymore. At least Facebook lets us keep up with a few of you.

Re: Chordiestock 2013 t-shirts (16 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
OK. I've found Fruit of the Loom t-shirts for $5 each.
Jeff - If you have an iron at your condo, and if there's a Wal-Mart in your area, I'll wait until Friday upon arrival to buy the shirts so that I have less to pack. Unless you already have plans for Friday evening the 22th that would preclude ironing some shirts. I can print out the logos and bring them with me then apply them when I get there, if that works for you.
I just made the first shirt, and it looks pretty good.

That's very generous, and I'll take you up on it. I fish mostly smallmouth. Virginia's trout water is a couple hours drive to the Blue Ridge, but the Potomac borders my town and there are two tributaries that run through the town, all of which hold smallies.

I don't tie my own flies. I should, because it would give me something to do when I have insomnia. But that's the only time I have to do little fidgety things. Normally I take that free time to do the mending and watch conspiracy shows on TV (Ancient Aliens, Finding Bigfoot, Behind the Bible, etc.).

Whitewater - I know that feeling and love it too. I also really love the first paddle stroke of any river trip for much the same reason. It means that I've finally gotten to the river and am going to have an adventure.

Yeah. The folks on this site are encouraging and humble and helpful. I haven't participated much on UG. They've got lots of songs there, though.

James Taylor Live. I don't listen to Rock much, so that's my contribution of the best live album I have in my collection. I used to have an LP of Bob Seger Live Tonight and that was real good.

Those sound like terrific sets. That sounds like a really cool sort of event. Whose sponsoring it? Is it a local arts initiative, or did the managers of the coffeehouse come up with it? Either way, or some other, it's neat to think how they'll tie all the senses together.

Scales until you're sick of them. Then learn a song that's completely out of your wheelhouse. For instance if you usually play bluegrass, then take on a death metal lick. Or if you usually play stadium rock, give Wagon Wheel a try. Do something to make your brain ache and your fingers frustrated.

Time to pull out the four chords and the truth songs that you play open. Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, John Prine, and Guy Clark have been waiting for you.

Re: Silly little things (27 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
LOL.
It's funny how these things go together. For my trip down to Chordiestock, I plan to take a fly rod and some flies. I'll buy a cheap knife while I'm there and abandon it when I leave so I don't have to check any luggage. I first looked up the rules on guitars, and Delta says that they can be carryon, though they reserve the right to gate check them. Perfect. Then I looked up the rules on flies, which refered me to the TSA web site. The TSA website instructs people to pack flies in with their carry-on luggage to keep damage to a minimum. So I'm going to load up a small box or two with some flies to use down there and fit them in my guitar case.

Roger Guppy wrote:Interesting info, although I am afraid that the start dates are arbitrary. There were major changes that were made to Chordie in March 2006 and everyone got given that as a start date.
Yes, I figured that. In fact I almost mentioned it during the original post, but decided against it. I could tell that there had to have been a database reset or something equally as radical on 4 Mar 06 because hundreds of people "joined" on that date, and I realized that couldn't be real.
Correction. I changed my title based on Astro's findings. :-)

I have found the Skype jams to be nothing but encouraging. Letters on a screen from handles have become characteristic thoughts from genuine friends with names. Paul (Normtheguitar), Amy (Mekidsmom), Jeff (Topdown), Jeff (Jets60), Ken (Dirty Ed), Chris (Guitarpix) I've all met in person, shaken their hands or given them hugs, met some of their spouses and children, and some have been to my home or I to theirs. You should definitely join in. Dirty Ed, Jets60, KAP54 are all songwriters whose music you will only have the chance to hear from a stage or on Skype. Frequently there's more talking than playing. Though it's focus is music, it isn't all about music. One thing is sure - you will never find a more appreciative and encouraging audience.
For full disclosure, I've known Dirty Ed for years before Chordie and think of him as kind of a crazy uncle though we don't share any blood. We do share Yeungling, which we put in our blood when together, so maybe that's it.
Have I told you lately that you're my favorite nephew? However, you're still not mentioned in my will .
DE
That's why I bring you beer when we camp together. A quick story on Dirty Ed. He keeps a tidy campsite. At one week long event I showed up on Thursday while Dirty Ed was out on the river. I put two cases of Yeungling lager on his campsite's table. I was setting up my camp when I heard some rumbling from a truck with the unique rattle caused by fishing rods, paddles, and beer cans rolling around in the bed on a bumpy dirt road. Then I heard DE's big voice say, "Big D's made it." (He calls me Big D) Whoever was with him said, "How do you know?" Then DE says, "Because there's fresh beer at my camp."

Too bad no one makes a packable guitar that'll fit in a fly vest.
You just need a big enough fly vest.

I'm not sending it to you by e-mail Jets60. I'll print one out for you on transfer paper and then you have to come get it. I'll bring out the space heater, maybe crank up the fireplace, and we'll have our own semi-tropical retreat in my family room. Bring your beautiful wife and we'll have some appetizers and drinks.

Topic: Chordiestock 2013 t-shirts (16 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Mekidsmom, despite her not attending (insert weeping emoticon here) has prepared a design that will work for a t-shirt. It's more a pocket sized design than for a whole big t-shirt. So I'll try and price up some pocket-t's, which are just right for those of us who use "cheaters" anyway. I haven't checked the prices, so I can't tell you what it'll cost for me to prep the shirts for delivery.
If you're going to be there, tell me your size. If you can't make it and want a copy of the logo, let me know and I'll e-mail the logo and give you instructions on how to make your own (assuming MKM doesn't mind).
