so er... enjoy.

id put it in the chopro format but i am far too lazy to look it up.

the intro, and in fact, most of the song goes like this:

Its easier to remember if you just play a G chord without the top string, then hammer on/pull off the 6th, then play an C maj 7 and hammer on/pull off the 1st.


okay, then the  prechorus and chorus are played a lot simpler:


The prechorus is just one G chord, held out until the vocals are done (you'll see later)

The chorus goes: G C G D G C Amin C then back to the verse. i'll show rythyms later.


Lyrics: these took me a while, and they have some symbolism in them, though none that are necessary for you all to live. So live with it. The part that goes "i'd give anything just to be with you" is the prechorus. the chord pattern for the chorus goes as such:

New album by the Shins?

Anyone get it?


I reccomend it over every other album available.

Its. That. Amazing.


The signature Shins sound has been changed only slightly, in my opinion for the better.

It sounds a little more pop/rockish than their other albums.

Must-listens are Phantom Limb, Australia, Red Rabbits, and Split Needles.

Hey James,

GarageBand will get you far, but not extremely far.

If you have about 150 dollars to spend, you can get Logic Pro for your Mac.

Logic Pro is more or less Garageband, but more sophisticated and better.

But if thats not possible, then i cant really help.

Er, if i understand the question,

Im guessing you're looking for a guitar to buy?

If it's your first guitar, i'd reccommend a lower end guitar, such as Squier or lower-end Epiphone.

If you're more experienced, buy something like a Les Paul Custom or Fender Stratocaster.

Not only does it help with synching your hands, but it also adds tons of coordination and finger strength.

Then, when you can do that, try doing it with your eyes closed. Backwards. With your guitar behind your head. Anything at all.

Hello, i was feeling rather woodsy today and decided to write a song about my feelings at the time.

The tuning is odd, the same tuning used in Suite: Judy Blue Eyes. it goes:

Well, your point makes some sense...


For instance, I've only been playing about 3 years, but i can play better than one of my friend's brother, who has been playing 6 months longer than i have...


I think there are a few variables in the equation that determines skill with the guitar...


S = (P + I) x T


Where S = skill with the guitar, P = practice time, T = previous musical talent, and I = inspiration


Skill depends on how much practice you put in, and how much you want to be good, and then you need musical talent to keep it up.


I think that made sense..

Hey there batal,


Transitioning from an acoustic to an electric really isnt all that hard. The main difference between the two is the feel of the strings. Electric strings are generally more flexible and forgiving, easier to play. Acoustic strings are generally stiffer and give a lot of volume.


Transitioning from fingerpicking to using a plectrum (fancy name for a pick) isnt all that hard. Try using a wide range of pick gauges until you find one thats comfortable (i personally prefer very light gauge picks for rythym playing and heavier gauge for soloing).


Do whatever is most comfortable when you start out, and it should work out in the end.

Okay, this is pretty simple. I'll show by example.

Below, i'll tab out a well-known line, the intro riff to The Beatles' "Day Tripper".

Now, if you'll notice, there are six lines in the Tab. how many strings on a guitar? six. so, each line matches up with the cooresponding string. The lowest string is the bottom string, or low E.  next is the fifth string, A, and so on. you'll often see people write out in which order the tab is worked out. Example:

G|----

D|----

A|----

E|----


Like that. The lowercase "e" is the top string, or high E.

Now, the numbers. If you'll look at the riff tabbed above, you'll see on the bottom line, which is low E, as you should remember, has the numbers

-0-2-3-

Those numbers are the frets to press. Fingering is whatever's comfortable, unless its specified what you should do.


Now, tabs are designed for people who <i>know</i> the song. If you dont know the song, tabs are more or less useless because you dont know the timing of the song if you only have tabs.


Tabs are a very easy way to learn a song that you are familiar with. Now, supposing you dont know the song Day Tripper, then the tab above will look like nonsense. But if you're familiar with the biting intro riff of The Beatle's classic song, it will make perfect sense. Find a song that you could pick out easily if you heard it and bang it out on your guitar with a tab here on Chordie. Then you should get the hang of it.

Has the above guitar been discontinued by Fender?

Any website that sells them that i've seen has been giving me messages about being "not available" or "sold out".

If they were discontinued, its not a big deal (i live near a store that has one) but im just curious.

Well, er...

Im guessing that the first C is the sixth string. It wouldnt make any sense otherwise.


From standard tuning -

Tune down the first string till it matches pitch with the third fret of the second string.

Tune down the second string till it matches pitch with the second fret of the third string.

Tune down the third string till it matches pitch with the third fret of the fourth string.

Tune down the fourth string till it matches pitch with the third fret of the fifth string.

Tune down the fifth string till it matches pitch with the third fret of the sixth string.

Tune down the sixth string till when you fret the 7th fret sixth string it matches pitch with the open fifth string.


Odd tuning...

For getting back up to standard tuning use a tuner or just reverse the above directions. That should work... i think.

If you still need help with this, i have a suggestion.

This all depends on how big your hands are though.... People with bigger hands will find this easier than others.


You can "cheat" your barre chords pretty well by using this method. take F major for example. Use your thumb to press down the first fret sixth string to get the bass F. use your third finer on the third fret to barre the fifth and fourth strings. use your second finger to press down the second fret third string, and your first finger to barre the first fret on strings 1 and 2.

It takes some getting used to, but once you get the hang of it the most difficult chords can be "cheated" through with little trouble.


For the minor chords with a sixth string bass note, theres no cheating.but for chords with a fifth string bass note, its easy. take Bmin for example.

press your first finger on the second fret first string. Second finger goes on the third fret of the second string. third and fourth fingers go on the fourth fret of the third and fourth strings. Thumb is used to mute the bottom two strings.



You can move both these finger patterns up and down the fretboard and it should come out sounding pretty good.

Its easiest in my opinion to start with the A minor pentatonic,

Well, it would help if I knew what type of music you play.

If you play more acoustic, softer stuff look at local art galleries when they have showings, they'd always rather have live music than stuff in a can.


If you play harder, more hardcore stuff look around bars or local hangouts. If you and your band are under 21 it would be difficult to find a place to let you do that, so thats a bit unlucky.

Hey gabe,

If you've got some creativity in your blood, you could probably write your own drum part and have your new drummer play that. If you cant play drums, (i'm assuming you cant) try getting your hands on a drum machine, either borrow or rent one from a local music store if possible. Figure out the timing and get your new drummer to try to play it.

haha, what i mean is that most people here on the forum probably adore the Beatles, me being one of them. Even if you dont like their type of music, you have to at least acknowledge the fact that they were arguably the most popular band of the century, if not ever.

Just thought i'd point that out.
