I think alot of people are forgetting the all-time best selling live album, Frampton Comes Alive. Although I personally would not put it at #1, but it is! I also love Hendix live at the Isle of Wight and don't forget Humble Pie Rockin' The Fillmore and don't forget about the Stones Get yer ya ya's out with Mick Taylor on slide and lead guitar! There is also the Last Waltz that has just about everybody on it! The new Cream is also good. But there is one live album that I think everybody is forgetting about, The Allman Bros. Live at the Fillmore East! That album has some of the tastiest licks I've ever heard! But there are a million of them! Hendrix's Band of Gypsys and don't forget Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble Live in Austin. There's hundreds of them!

I have an american strat with noiseless pickups, a SG standard, a LP custom, a P-Bass and a inexpensive but totally awesome aerodyne strat. The cheapest guitar I like the best I think for two reasons 1 it's made out of basswood so it's lite as a feather and 2 nowadays it's not so much what you're playing as what you're playing through! Nowadays you can almost make any guitar sound like anything you want it to! But out of say a tube amp like a twin reverb, the les paul really sounds great and so does everything else. But the LP really shines! But most important is that you have to be comfortable with what you're playing no matter what the headstock says!

Hey Phil, I sure hope you're feeling better, that aside I love ovations except, that if it is not an acoustic/electric then you can't put it up to a mic for its round back will make it bellow! Plain acoustically it doesn't have the reverberation that most decent guitars have, I think thats basically because of the fiberglass back doesn't absorb any sound it just bounces all over the inside of the guitar. But the good news is the neck is beautiful and almost never warps and the intonation pretty much stays true. They can be very comfortable to play, because they are light, the down side is they definately have a flat sound. I hope I was of some help. All My Best, Joey E.

In my opinion all 3 are good guitars I think like phil said, its a matter of $$$ and of course the sound and feel you're looking for! I personally prefer the Gibson J-45 although I have always been partial to Gibsons I have a good friend who has a 1976 martin D45 herringbone which is beautiful and sounds great but shape of the neck wasn't as comfortable as the gibson. The taylor I've played in stores and find the sound is great but there is something about the fingerboard that didn't feel as comfortable. But thats just me, and I am more of a blues player than anything else and for acoustic blues it has to be the J45! But all that said, I wish you all the best with your new axe!

I'm sure there are people making money and probably doing allright at it. Here in the U.S.A. it might be a good idea to maybe do what we used to call the poor mans copyright, which means you take your music put it in an envelope and mail it to yourself by certified mail and never open that package unless it's to prove the material inside is yours! This must be done in front of dare I say a lawyer, but only if you feel that someone has stolen your music!                             Joey E.

I change my strings depending on time used, humidity and how dirty the strings seem, ya know when you play and look at your fingers and they are filthy! I also try to wash my hands before playing, it definately helps. And I've tried the coated strings which do last longer but don't sound so good! I've been playing guitar about 38 years on and off. Now being retired and diabled I have alot more time on my hands then I used to!

You are right, but with out the original pickups the guitar might drop in price! But if you're not planning to sell it, then the guitar is worth as much as you feel its worth to you! I never buy a guitar and sell them anymore, the foolishness of what I did when I was a teenager would blow your mind! I bought a white 1968 custom Lp in 1969 for $359.00 it's probably worth anywhere to $15000.00 now! And I traded it for a guild I think it was a D25 I could be wrong! that was a almost 40 years and alot of drugs ago! Now I buy guitars and keep them because I like them and love playing them! I think there is a place in Hoboken,New Jersey that might have original '68 humbuckers. I will see if I can find out the name of the place! I used to have they're number because I don't know how but when my uncle died, his son (my cousin) didn't know what to do with his Gibson 175D 1960 so I sold it for him and the people you need to be in touch with contacted me! How they got my number I don't know but he wanted to buy just the pickups he wasn't very interested in the single cutaway beauty my uncle played Jazz and Swing with for some many years! But I'll ask around but I believe you my be looking at something in the neighberhood of $2000.00 for each or for both I'm not sure! I'll try to get back to you on that!

Ther is no substitute for originals! I've played a couple of Yamaha's that would stand up to my strat! But the only thing that came close to my LP was a PRS. I don't have and never wanted an explorer basically because I felt the shape of the guitar very uncomfortable, the same as with the V. Now my SG standard I used to and still love especially when I want something a little lighter but with similar sustain to my LP! But I'm sorry Natho, in my world there really aren't any substitutes! Sometimes you might be able to get a good used one or check out musiciansfriend.com or altomusic.com Happy Hunting!

Hey Reb! Yamaha is a great buy for the money and so are the Ibenez's. Takamine, can be good and bad! I picked one that was really nice beautiful neck but a tinny sound there was no reverberation to it,then I picked up one right next to it and it sounded great! Same model same strings same everything! You can get great buys over the internet, sometimes and sometimes you get disappointed! Me personally, when I buy an instrument I must play it first! I tend to get lazy about mailing stuff back! And then there is the inability to compare side by side with something else! You mentioned Epiphone they are a perfect example, I played a cheaters guitar (12 string) and it sounded great and right next to it another of the same model and it sounded awful! And both were under $300.00! You might want to check out musiciansfriend.com you could get great deals on all kinds of stuff there! You can also check out altomusic.com Well happy hunting

I would not buy anything too expensive, but if you buy a cheap piece of crap it could depess you if you don't progress fast enough! Go out and find a friend who has some experience to guide you! I'm sure for a beginner you could get something decent in the area of about  $200.00 to $300.00 I wouldn't spend any more than that at the begining!

Definately not of a professional calibre! Actually they are real pieces of crap! If you compare them to martin, guild, seagull etc............

Beatles or Stones?  Well lets look at it from a musician's point of view, the Beatles actually wrote songs almost always perfectly! What I mean by that is, it had a begining a bridge and an ending! the only flaw that the early Beatles had was they had 2 rythmn guitarist and back then it was not unusual! Now the stones had alittle better drummer and although some people may disagree but Keith Richards is hands down a better guitarist! But their best musician Mick Taylor left the band and personally he is head and tails above Ron Wood! Who by the way is ten times the bass player than he is a guitarist! But song wise, The Beatles! Straight rock and roll and blues the stones! It's almost like comparing oranges and apples!

hey phil, the fender is definately a better made guitar and is similar to the line 6 but for the money I don't think either one is worth it! I've played them both! The one thing that is great about the fender and I don't remember if the line 6 has it but you can change keys just by turning a knob. So if you play alot of slide it could be very useful!

I think as great a singer he is, and I remember seeing him at woodstock in 1969, but his craft is just singing! Frank Sinatra didn't write any songs either, Leon Russell wrote some of his real early stuff! The stuff I love to hear him sing!

My opinion on strats as opposed to lps is very simple different guitars for different styles of music! Some people like the fast feel of strat with a maple neck and some like the warmth and softer feel of rosewood! The shape of the tapered slim neck of an lp as opposed to the flatter wider strat! Which is better? It's all about what an individual likes!

gitaardophil, saying you have too many guitars sounds like your wife talking! My wife used to say I have too many guitars, until I asked her if she had too many pieces of jewelry? Since then she never tells me I have too many guitars!

cytania, the Melody Maker of today is not the Melody Maker of the 1960's like the one Leslie West used! It's cheap crap! But some of the cheap Lp's you can't find a better deal for the money, such as the mahogany that's currently selling for about $800.00 has great pickups and a good neck that just needs the edge of the frets filled down! It's no frills! But if you're looking for something with a great blues and or rock sound at an affordable price then you can't beat it! I plan on getting one myself.

I have 2 Strats and 3Lps and 1SG, my personal opinion is as follows, Nowadays it seems to me as long as the feel of the neck and the guitar is good for you, then it's more about what you are playing through! Not what you are playing! I have an inexpensive strat ( Aerodyne Strat) but it's my cheap, Epiphone Lp cust. that I play the most. And why because it feels better than my Gibson! With all the amps and electronics that are inexpensive these days it's not so much what you're playing than how you play and what you play through!
