hi TF, i've been playing a Boss ME50 for a few years now and i'm still finding new FX and sounds. i think russ harding also uses the same, it gives crunch, volume, echo/reverb, chorus and flange and many others too including a 3 channel EQ. so if the 25 is as good then go get it floyd

it happens all the time, eg; i write a song and when i record it it sounds brill! so i play it over and over and it still sounds great. then i switch off, go to bed and listen again next day....then it's....oh dear, it's as if next day i'm a different person listening as a third party and so listening with a more critical ear. then i re-do it, and re-do it..ad infinitum...

lesson is; i never do a gig inebriated, never finalize a song that night, never marry a girl i've only met once...? never buy anything from a salesman who says; " i can only offer you this price now, tomorrow it goes up." ok, i'll get it on ebay. i'm not even making sense to myself now so i'll say goodnight and go to bed.......

it's easier still to identify strings as the ones i buy have colour coded bullet ends. i also take off all the strings clean/polish etc before re-stringing. i thought everyone did that?

hi russ, yep i do the same, track 1&2 are acoustics, track 3 bass, 4 is lead, then 13 up are keyboards and drums. i've also been cloning the lead vocal to fatten up the sound.

i find it's easier to keep track if you keep the same order. i use the plastic bag that came with the dp, i wouldn't use a towel as it could hold moisture.

it's so difficult juggling between my PC and my Dp24. as has been stated above; it is a fantastic machine and i recommend anyone who is into recording to buy one if they can afford one.

one thing i have noticed is that there is a full bevvy of editing, mixdown and mastering tools. and using them has shown me something i never noticed before; i seem to mix each track as i record it, so that when i come to mastering the volumes for each track are in a line! so sliding the vocal or solo track up or down is all i need to do.

i'm putting this down to when all i had was a sound on sound tape deck where you had to keep your volumes down to fit the mix.

has anyone else noticed any strange habits to do with recording?

mid 30's? my god a mere child. wait till you hit your 60's.

i try to avoid any painting, plastering, fixing the grandkids bikes. but the wife starts up with the verbal and (wound-up) off i go!

up till about 5 years ago i could do a 4 hour straight set, standing and dancing (not much movement mind you) night after night.

last saturday i played from 8.30 to 11 15 and my legs were cream crackered, my back ached and my voice was hoarse for my sunday gig. the worst part is i've got no singing voice at all today (monday) and my real enjoyment is sitting in my front room, otherwise known as my studio, writing and recording new songs accompanied of course by my guitar or piano. fortunately, my fingers are fine.

here's a tip; whilst we were in Lanzarote recently, we bought some Aloe Vera gel, which i rub into my fingers. i'm not saying it's a miracle cure, but my fingers are working well (at the moment)

hi nela, sorry for your predicament, but surly after surgery if you take things too quickly it'll just set the healing process back, maybe causing more scar tissue? i know in your place i'd be pushing myself , like you, to get back to strumming and doing other things that you've always done.

all i can say is; listen to the experts, if they say it'll get better, then rest assured sooner or later (preferably sooner) it will.

if you can't wait, you could always try slide guitar?

i usually barre the A as everyone else seems to agree, but for some unknown reason i've started playing other A shaped chords up the arm B ETC using my pinky as the shaper eg; for "B" B-F# index finger barre, F#-B-Eb using pinky barre. i don't know why i started doing this, i didn't think "i'll start playing it this way" i just looked down one night when i was playing and there it was!!!

Got to say, that's the way I hold a pick too.

Short anecdote; I used to play in a band with a guy that would collect my broken picks, slice them smaller so they were just splinters, and play some "smoking" guitar licks.

I am with you both. Before I joined Chordie I had more or less stopped writing songs, so if I hadn't done a search for a "song writers" site I might not have written (what I think) are my best songs. I've also met (on-line) a lot of like-minded friends and musical soul mates. Long may this site and international guitarists/poets/song writers and general muso's prevail.

So,  it's goodnight form me, and it's goodnight to you.

my tastes still range from 70's progressive to 60's rock/pop (not englebert humperdinck) some folk some C/W some R&B some classical (not opera)
on the pop front the 70's was a dismal decade, and pop music just went downhill from there. not saying that all 60's was good and everything else was bad, just that as oposed to now most of it was reasonable.

total dislikes; show music (les mis etc) jazz fusion

total hates rap with a huge capital C

i've just been recording a track on my new DP24 and i've used my Telecaster, my Wilson bass and my Crafter semi twice. i also had a strum of my fender F90 earlier which i haven't played for a couple of years, the strings were all sticky so i couldn't slide my fingers up and down the strings, time to change the strings, but i did pick out a nice riff that i'll be using on my next song.

hi p.callaby,

it's always a bad idea to put your email address up for all to see and in some cases may be used for bad intent. so may i suggest changing your "monika" or rejoin using another name not your email. and it's rude to use someone else's post to say hello or ask a question, so please in future begin your own post, and i would suggest using the chat forum to do so. as a member you can use any of the forums, but please keep in theme, eg; if you have a question on tuning go to the theory forum, or if your stuck on the chords for a song the song requests.

so after all that, welcome to chordie, please use all the resources take part in the conversations, but please follow the conventions and rules.

i love playing piano myself, but if you gave me anything but a chord chart i'd be stuffed. i am self taught (for what i know, which isnt much) and reading music notation for me is a slow and laborious task, so i tend to busk around the chords until i hit upon the tune or riff. i'm sure i did come across a piano site a few years back when i found chordie, so i didnt go back there, sorry no help.

glad to hear your making progress 7, it is a super feeling when you find it's all coming together. but you must remember that quite a few of us members are nudging if not past that retirement age, but still busking or just enjoying the sweet tones and tunes made by our own sweet hands. you must keep us informed of your progress and busking plans....LOL. in the bullring perchance?

oooohhh yeah, i've set it up and made a trial recording. then i thought i'd try to record a song that i've been trying to get right for a couple of years "you got it" by roy orbison, and it's come out super.

it's a bit complicated at first, but once you get into it it's fine. i recommend it to any one, well not everyone...

my DP24 arrived in the UK at almost 8 PM Tuesday night, 12 hours later it was delivered to my door, so I'm chuffed. it looks totally fabulous, a bit bigger than I thought it would be, still.....I spent yesterday reading the manual, so I haven't set it up yet. I have to find space, so my PC has to move and I have to finish off 2 tracks on my Korg D8, then away to go.

Just as an aside; it came with a US plug, luckily I have a plug lead that fits. it's also 100 volt to 240 volt transformer, I know that the US is 120 volt whereas the UK and Europe is 220-240 volt.

something I cant understand is; how am I sitting here writing when I could be playing with my new toy?  bye
