Me again ,
Forgot to mention , if you're a guitar player also , you probably have a chorus pedal lying around . Try using that with your fiddle , you might not want to go back to playing clean , at least for some tunes!!!

Hi Tex ,
You say you play an electric ...is it a solid body or accoustic with a pickup ? I play accoustic violin and viola
with a pickup that I can switch between the two . Always wanted to try a solid body electric but don't know anybody that has one and don't want to put out the bucks . Might just have to build one .
Is the Marshal a valve amp or solid state ? I've heard they sound real pretty coming out of tubes .

Let's hear more about those fiddles......I know you're out there......It's very few songs that don't benefit from a violin playin soft and low in the background.
In some original work it can be the difference between a good song and one that will pull the tears out of your eyes......( if that's the effect you're after of course )
I'm very interested in how other peaple are using them and what , if any ,  electronics they're using .

Hi Doc ,
First of all let me say that this is the first guitar forum I have found where newbies seem to be wanted .
Since finding it I have learned a lot and I just had to turn my little brother on to it . He should be logging on soon .
He is a lead player and our only true " amp head ".
When he saw this one he had to call me and say " Yea
absolutely fer sure ......
Sometimes I don't really follow what he's talking about
simply because I care less about the amp I'm useing than what comes out of it ,
but I found this little tidbit very interesting.......Thanks

James , I live waaaaay up here in west central minnesota where it's been so cold lately that I don't even want to take an instrument out unless it will fit in my supercab (which is usually too full of tools ). By the way , be sure and let me know when " Statistical Idol " airs , as it might be the only thing worth watching now days !!........

James,
I love this one . Particularly
your use of minor chords . It's amazing what they can do for a song . I try to use them in my humble little works when ever I think the lyrics will carry the feeling .
I would like to post some of mine if I can figure out this " formatting thing "???!!

Me again
Forgot to ask Badeye , tell us more about that fiddle .
Do you use electronics on it ? I use a bridge p.u. with a clamp on jack that I can switchover from violin to viola in about 5 min. Gives a real nice mellow tone and I use it with a stand alone preamp that I can tweak on to my heart's content............with a little reverb and just a touch of chorus
you'd swear that fiddle was cryin........

Hi all ,
Gee , sometimes I wish I only had one or two . ( so does my wife ). Here goes ...
'47 Gib L-50 , '54 Silvertone H-62 ( harmony made ), early 50s Kay jumbo flat top in blonde , 30s ? Kay violin guitar #4 with scroll head ,
'99 Guild F-65CE vint. burst ,
'97 Guild F-30 , '65 Guild f-30
and oh yea the one I play the
most is a Korean made copy of a Gib ES-330 that was the first guitar I ever bought new
about 24 yrs ago . Too many fiddles to list , but the ones I play most are an '84 Bob Wenzel ( Warroad Mn. ) violin
and a Romanian 15" viola .
I try to pull each one out and play once a month or so , but I love each and every one dearly .

Doc...I certainly agree that the strings make the tone , at
least on my accoustics . The difference isn't near as evident on my electrics with hummbuckers , might be different with single coils . On
my accoustics I've always used martin x-lites .010 because they ring so nice and
take all the punishment you can give em . Nothing fancy and they're inexpensive . It's
funny but I'll put off changing
them on my accoustics longer than I should , because when I do change them , it's like a whole new sound !!! ( Kinda like hitting yourself in the head with a hammer repeatedly just because it feels so good when you stop !!???.......
I'm interested in other opinions on this also.....

Hi ,
My little brother plays lead for us and at our jam sessions we usually devote time for what we call round table where each person can take over the mike and do songs that no one else has worked on . That little G-Dec
gives him the all the backup he needs to turn a lead solo into a complete piece . Anything from blues to surfer stuff . He loves it !!!!!

Hi , I just logged on to this forum and saw your post four
months late , but will post a reply anyway .
I have played guitar for forty plus years , violin for eight and viola for five . I play them both as fiddles but I like the easy possibilities with the C string on the viola.
If I have any questions I will keep you in mind . Always
nice to have another resource
thanks..........
