Thanks for that man....but i couldnt understand a word of it!

Id like to know this, but thats a bit complicated! Is there an easier way of explaining it?

Bearing in mind i have NO music theory knowledge.

I appreciate the effort, i really do, but am utterly clueless...

Thanks guys, could someone explain what this sonic, subdominant, and dominant are?

I havnt the slightest clue about music theory!

Thanks again, Nathan

Hi all, I was just wondering how people are able to tell which chords are played in a song just by listening to it.

Is there any specific technique?

Thanks, Nathan

Im not sure. Go onto YouTube. Either watch a video of Bob Marley playing it, or watch a guitar tutorial on the song.

That's how I do it anyway, hope this helps smile

Since this is where all the creative people are, im on the hunt for a name of a band we've just set up.

My ideas:

Amp Addicts
Remote Madness
Painted Picture
Colder Colours                                                                 (band is probably going to be a mix of chilled acoustic songs and some
Closed Book                                                                     upbeat-pop/rock-not really pigeon holing our style yet though!)
The Silhouettes
Red Lions
The Bright Nights

All just Brainstorming, what do you think?

And do you have any other ideas?

I used to hate trying the dreaded F and now it's just clicked while trying to learn some of the great mutant Jack Johnsons songs. Now I love it!

That's fantastic advice guys. I'll try put it into practice today.. I'm beginning to love this forum!

I know it's sorts of a tune, but what does that mean in the context of songwriting?

I'm an absolute beginner and have no idea about these things!

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks guys, ill give some of this a go.
Guitar is fun so its not so bad that it takes time smile

Pretty easy guys, im looking for some quality to get me through the summer holidays.

Im struggling with my decision, at first i was going to go for something by James Taylor, but instead im going to go for Tracy Chapman-Tracy Chapman.

So whats your favourite?

HI all

ive been learning guitar for a few months now, my chord changes are very good-in general!-and i know a few songs.

My biggest problem is that i dont know when to come in if i was trying to sing along and i struggle with my rhythm and strumming pattern if i do get the timing right!

Also, I havnt the slightest clue-if i was writing a song- as to what chord to play and why a specific chord is used

I would like to start writing songs but i have no idea how to get over these problems.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Regards, Nathan

Thats a good idea, but would strummimg not be compromised with the larger gap between strings? Just wondering, but if not i may try it. Would make picking much easier anyway.

Thatnks. Nathan.

Ok thanks, i think ive got it. Ill practice it asap and see how it goes!

Cheers. Nathan.

I have a metronome but what sort of drills would i do? Just to
keep time on downstrums to start with?

hi all,
im trying to learn guitar and have managed to learn a decent few chords.

my problem is that i am blessed with the rhythm of a donkey and cannot sustain any sort of strumming pattern or timing,

are there any tips or tricks that i can use, or does practice really just make perfect?

thanks!

p.s sorry ive just discovered this forum and questions keep popping into my head! so much to learn...
