Ok! Forgive me for not having music to this piece.
This was written a while ago now. When the words came to me, they came with Bootlegers name.
I understand this piece, I hope you do also Bootleger, with respect Sir.

hi helena,

i've been waiting for you to put another song up, and i have to say even without chords it's very musical. i could imagine it in my mind [which is something i can't normally do with songs written without music] as a sort of walking beat in a country style, i may be wrong, so is that what you had in mind when you wrote it?

it's quite profound though, did you mean it to be so deep?

i particularly like the line at the end of each verse" the gift to live without." i guess that covers a lot of things, and it's exceptionally well thought out and written.  congratulations. maybe you'll put music to it and post it on myspace, i wait with baited breath

You know  it is very frustrating for me at times.  I have So many written,
most come with the melody, i just dont have enough chord ability to do it the way id like to.
Most of what i write comes out of the blue, usually with the name of the person its for. I dont question anymore
i just write. If i dont understand the meaning, they usually do. This one i feel holds a strong message, for the person its written for.

I just want to say i visited phils page and "broken bones" was playing by old doll most of us know her name but thats not all of it,the song is really an excelent job not just the writing but phils musical interpretation and performance i was pleasently glued to his page listening. very very nice my hats off to both lena and phil i think you should do some more songs because this song was really good    russ

Hi Gnomefry,

I believe if we have pain of the mind, we feel it in our bones.  A Broken Spirit so to speak.

Most titles i use would come from the lyrics or the story behind them.

gnomefry asked "where did you come up with the title"? the broken bones bit, comes in the first verse, and i think bootlegger is Helena's friend. whoever it is, i interpreted this person as an angel of sorts, maybe a nun?
anyway, i would probably have called it "the gift" or "the gift to live without" but it's Helena's song and her choice to call it "broken bones" and i would not change that for the world.
