hi jets,  that's a funny thing, i've noticed that when i listen to a piece of music that i really like it inspires me too but by the time i get to my guitar the riff or chord progression i was thinking of has gone...that's old age for you?

i got up this morning and as i got in the shower i had the first verse of a new song. by the time i'd dried off it had gone again...did i already say that's old age for you?

anyway by trying to remember the chord progression i stumbled across a couple of new ones and a verse so i'll be working on that for the rest of the week as well as bills song and jims song.

bills is nearly finished all it needs is my voice to heal after the weekend and i can add a vocal.

looks like we're back in business

peatle, i love it.....you made me laugh out loud...i'm in my 60's too and i often think my family think i'm in my room playing with my toys, not always quietly!

honestly i'm not worried about not having any inspiration ....yet! i'm just enjoying catching up with half finished songs, mine and and covers. i've been re-recording some stuff i did in 2009, surprised me some were good and some not so good. i may stick one or two on soundcloud sometime.

hi jim, no still nothing. i'm not worried though as i have given myself a couple of projects to do. i finished a CD in july and i've been playing it front to back every time i go somewhere in the car! so last weekend i thought i'd have a change and played 2 old CDs, one from 2006 and t'other from 2009. but they've been corrupted by the labels i put on them, so i'm going to re-do them....maybe.

now to survivor, i down-loaded it with the intention to add bass, keyboards and drums. unfortunately that didn't work out. when i have time i'll give it another go. let you know.

russ, new toys always get the juices flowing, i'm trying to resist. maybe a couple of weeks (or longer) of not writing will rejuvenate my appetite.

grah, the only thing that wakes me in the middle of the night is the urge to pee. having said that i have woken up with a song buzzing around the brain cells....just not recently.
hope you're feeling better after your sudden illness? iechyd da (good health my friend)

well jim, once she's read that you'll have a multitude of brownie points to redeem smile

i knew you loved your family and your missus of course and this shows it, not least for the fact that you got up at 3.30 to write it down. you must be planning to record it so let us know when we can have a listen.

great song

point in question....yesterday, cant remember what mccartney called it till the words came, but maybe i'll try it....no wait a minute, all my words are silly already, maybe i should try intelligent words?

thanks jim, to be honest it was the longest 8 minutes i've spent for ages (8 mins being as much as i could stand...sorry) i've used all those sequences more than once. the chord i did like was the F#m flat6th, i'm gonna use that one when i get round to it.

i have been busy recording backing tracks for on stage, country roads and come on over to my place. the latter i had to learn the words which i've more or less achieved, something i haven't managed for a while...learning all the words of a new song. naturally i've put my own spin on it. oh, and i've been working on a song for bill.

so if you'd like me to mutilate another one of your songs give me some suggestions

i usually find that listening/watching good music being played gets my juices flowing. it's a lot harder getting to a gig and not wanting to do it! i have always found that i get well into it halfway through the first song anyway...so perseverance is the keyword. you know what they say; a man has to do what a man has to do, so stop whinging and get on with it.

this has to be one of the most heart rendering poems i've ever read.  there are many ways of describing true love, some arty some in-yer-face, but what we have here is a third party description which reminds me quite a bit of my own situation. we argue over everything from wall papering to how jumpers should be folded! we will never get to the stage where we live separate lives in the same house but i hope if we get to the situation where she (or i) become dependant upon the other i (or she) can step up to the mark, she's looking over my shoulder as i write this and says she will even if i don't!

this is a truly beautiful and dare i say brilliant poem. i feel sorrow for your and especially your wife's loss and i agree, your work deserves to be in print.

i always get fits and starts when it comes to songwriting, and at the moment i'm in a deep trough ; cant string a decent chord progression together let alone some meaningful words.

i don't mind a bit of writers block, but why NOW? x factor is still going strong, just tonight i'm a celeb get me out of here started and all i've got for company is a redundant guitar, freecell and candy crush saga....help! sad

i thought i'd give bass a go 2 decades ago. so bought a bass and joined a band who played a bit of everything, but i played it like a lead guitar, and missed my timing quite a lot with the result that i got a lot of telling-offs from the drummer. if i was standing too close on stage i got a drumstick across the knuckles. so my advice; keep it simple, stay in time (listen to the bass drum) and don't try to be too clever

hi jim, must agree, that last verse completes a very beautiful, sentimental and truthful song.

holding that beautiful new life in your hands for the first time will be one of the greatest moments in your life. make time for the child and be prepared to accept all the accusations that you are spoiling the child, of course you will enjoy doing just that, like i have and still am.

HI BEESTIE, just a suggestion as you said you'd like something less simple. still simple chords....

by the way, loved the song and i recognise every sentiment and the way you've written it...brill

You must have the deluxe version of Volume Three, then Phill. I looked for just the DVD on Amazon and the one I found is way out of my budget and it was the only one. smile

Bill

i boxed clever bill, with 4 children and 11 grandkids, i just mention what i'd like for christmas or birthday. i dropped the hint this week about the Beatles No1 DVD. i feel so wicked sometimes lol

whenever i joined a new band we would always practise on acoustic guitars even the bassist so he'd get a feel for the rhythm of the song. the drummer would normally tap his knees. it's important for the singer to get the keys of each song right and for everyone to suggest what song they would like in the set list, this would be the time to do it while it's quiet. thing with electrics it can turn into a chaotic jam session at the drop of a hat then nothing gets done, although you feel great during and after.

If you're on Win10 try RECOVERY from the "settings" tab it gives you the option of dumping files you don't want while reinstating windows and the ones you do want.  i'm no expert.

thanks for the listen and comments.

ark, it wasn't meant to have half the stuff that got on there, just acoustic and the lead bit. after i posted the song i added strings for my CD version "on sale at your local tesco".....i wish lol

thank you very much jandle, we aim to please anyone know how to do an upside down smiley? big_smile

TF, it makes a lot of sense, i hate it when i get to the end of a song just to find that the eagles did it first smile but keep trying, you and BGD, if i can help, let your fingers do the walking smile

big thanks jim, what a review!

if you read the post above to bill you'll see why the voice had pain in it. i cant see me performing it live....it took me the best part of an hour to work out and record the solo to my satisfaction. so not much chance of me reproducing it live.

thanks for listening and commenting

hi bill, it's not actually me but my second son (i have 3 and a daughter) he's had quite a bit of strife in his grown up life. this one is about his first love, they got together in their teens, sounds familiar bill? had 2 kids then split up. 15 years or so later they got back and had a third child. everyone gets rough patches but she suddenly upped and left with the kids and all the house furnishings. a year later and she's returned with all the  chattels apart from the 2 older kids whom she blames for the walk out .

the rest of the family blame her as a devious "female canine" wink and know that sooner or later she'll walk out again.

as you can see this is playing on my mind and if you look back at my scribblings over the past year you'll see that this is not my first rant.

i don't know why i'm telling you all this and i apologize if i'm boring you with my troubles and personal life, but like bill i feel you are all friends

Hello William,

How the devil did I miss this one. Oh yes September I was on holiday.

I loved it, we have all been there. A true story; I met Ann, the wife, when we were both 16 but I thought she was out of my league, so I didn't persue her. We met again at age 30 fell in love (again for me) and married, and stayed that way for 35 years come may 9 next year. I had all the fantasies that teenage boy's get and we both had failed marriages.

I hope your story worked out for you or you got over it. It's early morning here so I can't try it out so I'll give it a go later. Let you know how I get on.

Your friend

Phill

hi grah, thank you, it was meant to be just a demo till i got an arrangement worked out, so the acoustic and vocal were done together, which is not the way i normally do it, but i think it sounds OK? i was thinking about another verse and/or a bridge, but the guitar and piano solos won. and i thought 4 + minutes was enough
