I played a VoxAC50 at a gig using a curly lead. The inputs are on top and I had my soft drink on top too. Whilst doing a bit of stage nonsense the lead knocked the drink over and into the amp electrics....

Lesson being, coke (the liquid kind) and valves do not mix.

Congrats on your new amp, turn up an enjoy, but feet only on top!

After what I heard about Starbucks I'd never go in there. During the Afghan war UK troops asked for some of their coffee, they were willing to pay but Starbucks came back with a totally out of context and bitchy remark about no freebees. So as far as I'm concerned they can stick their manky coffee where the sun don't shine

i haven't thought about writing a song for two weeks while i was on holiday as i haven't even seen a guitar. i got home yesterday (wednesday) and picked up  my baby and had a little strum and a riff came, followed today by a song, no recording yet as i've just finished it and it may still change in places.

At Seventeen.Undefined

[G] She became a woman [C] at [D] seventeen. (E-C-D-G)

[G] Never understood why she was [C] made [D] unclean. (E-C-D-G)

[Em] Everyone in town knows what [D] she's been through.

But [Am] they don't give a damn cos she's “[C] such a [D] fool”.

And [Am] she don't deserve all this [D] ridicule.

At [G] seventeen.

She got herself a boy and he was well to do.

His daddy was a banker and his mamma's in food.

He took her for a ride in an open top car.

Then he made her do some things that she ain't done before.

But once was not enough, he wants more and more.

At seventeen.

[Bm] How can she tell him he's to [Em] be a dad?

When he's [Am] only a boy in-[C] spite of all [D] that?

Still his [Bm] dad is gonna pay to get [Em] rid of the brat......

It takes two to tango.

It takes a boy and a girl to make a child.

While he walks around with a smile on his face.

She sits at home and cries cos it's her disgrace.

And she's not welcome now in any place.

At seventeen.

At seventeen.

hi beestie, what time signature have you given it? i've tried it a few times and the only time i can get it to work is in 3/4 waltz time with a different set of chords. you're probably playing a uke? so i'd like to hear you play it so i can see where you are and maybe giving a little help.

having said that, it's a great story, well written.

hi tony, i tried to have a listen while on hols but it wouldn't play. anyway now i've listened and i really enjoyed, it has all the arkady markers, haunting under melody, quietly driving beat and slap in the face chorus. you could say i liked it and you'd be right, it must be good i listened to the whole 5 minutes.

the words are also haunting yet conjuring vivid pictures in my mind of the american civil war and also ww1 trench warfare in france.

well done my friend

Hi Jandle, I've seen the film of Gallipoli and the petulance of the English generals, Haig in particular really insenced me. The terrible waste of life and disregard of those lives just to prove a point! I hope he's still burning in hell....if there is such a place lol

Hi Dino, it tickles me when I hear Moslems say "Jesus Christ" one for them one for the rest of us. As a great American once said; I may not like what you say but I'll defend you're right to death to say it. Or something to that effect.

he said, what you got in the boot (trunk)?

i said ffffffffootball boots

Fizzy lemonade?  um.... or is it a drink that's already mixed that happens to be fizzy?  OR is it Vodka, Lemonade, and seltzer water? Love me some Vodka, but whatever it's with it must have ice.  I think the only thing I drink without ice though is milk, hot cocoa and coffee ... actually... sometimes iced coffee is good too!

this side of the pond we can buy just plain old lemonade in a bottle or on draft, like beer. assuming that you cant your side of the pond it's like 7 up or lilt, which we have to ask for in spain etc, cos they don't do lemonade.

i make that point because i've seen US movies where people sit on the porch drinking home made lemonade from a pitcher! personally, i like bubbles in my lemonade/beer and as cold as ice.:P

hi jim, i don't have time to listen at present but i promise i will ASAP. i love the fact that you've made such a fab observation and written it all down so eloquently, i have 11 grandkids and 2 great granddaughters. it's difficult trying to be the same to all of them and explaining that the youngest always gets the most attention. i just helped the 11 year old with her photo homework having to look through hundreds of photos while she chose the ones she wanted. it's all part of the job.

but, congrats on being an expectant granddad and looking forward to welcoming you to the club and seeing the new born pics.

great song.

Strummerboy Bill wrote:

What program are you using to set up your chords and everything, Phill? I can't seem to get it right.

Thanks

hey bill, the program is called "chopro" and if you read the stickies at the top of this forum it will tell you how to make it "all purdie like"

but basically it's just;

[song*]
{t: song name*}            shape of the brackets are imperative
{st: your name/tag*}
chords must be placed in brackets in capitols [G*] thus
chorus...{soc*} = start of chorus
{eoc*} = end of chorus
[/song*] =closes the song off and activates chopro

hope this helps. include the asterisk's out as without them chopro would activate and it would all be useless lol

Talking of ice....Ann my better half, drinks vodca and lemonade (the fizzy kind) and will give me hell if I return from the bar with ice in it saying; more ice less vodca, so no ice. Thought you might like to know that?

I read a lot of historical fiction, stories based on fact. I also love history, but the old saying is true; "history is written by the winners"

When you think of all the wars, massacres and decimations that have happened since man evolved, it's a wonder that the human race has survived this long.

The Romans wiped out half of Europe in their bid to civilise it? The catholic church continued that policy world wide for hundreds of years.

Now we have dictators and terrorist leaders that want to wipe out humanity in the name of God. Is it any wonder that I'm becoming an atheist?

Rant over. Thanks for looking and commenting, a recording will follow shortly.

Thanks Phill

this one has been in my guts for some time, and it erupted tonight. with all the disgraceful scenes on the news pertaining to the war in Syria and the refugees trying to get away from it. and of course the governments trying to keep them out of their countries! there are also references to WW1 and the so called "crusades" and the massacre of the indigenous tribes of South America by the Spanish conquistadores.

Be A Hero.Undefined

[G] I didn't want to be a [Em] hero.

[G] I didn't want to go to [Em] war.

[G] I didn't want to be a [Em] man with a gun.

[C] Cos you know what guns are [D] for?

[G] I did my part for king and [Em] country.

[G] I made the rich men richer [Em] still.

[G] And all I had to do was [Em] fire that gun.

[C] You've got to kill or be [D] killed.

(CHORUS 1)

[C] Ten good men in my [D] company.

[Em] All with kids and wives at [C] home.

[Am] Some were shot and some were [D] bombed-my friend.

[G] None of them will make it [C] home.

[Am] Some lost limbs, some [D] their sight.

[Em] I dream of them every [C] single night.

And [Am] I didn't [D] want to be a [G] hero.

[G] Ten good men dressed all the [Em] same.

[G] On parade for king and [Em] queen.

[G] Then in a hole up to the [Em] knees in mud.

[C] What a nightmare this has [D] been.

[G] We did our part for the [Em] government.

[G] To bring the heathens to our [Em] God.

[G] Seems they'd had a God for a [Em] thousand years.

[C] What was this killing [D] for?

(REP CHORUS 1)

[G] So, now the oil makes bigger [Em] profits.

[G] And the bankers bonus could pay the [Em] debts.

[G] Of small countries where the [Em] kids consume.

[C] Food we wouldn't give our [D] pets.

[C] Ten kids dying every [D] moment.

[Em] One cigar could feed them [C] all.

[Am] Land mines blowing them to [D] pieces.

[G] None of them will make it [C] home.

[Am] Some lose limbs, [D] some their sight.

[Em] I dream of them every [C] single night.

And [Am] they didn't [D] want to be a [G] hero.
