i always get fits and starts when it comes to songwriting, and at the moment i'm in a deep trough ; cant string a decent chord progression together let alone some meaningful words.
i don't mind a bit of writers block, but why NOW? x factor is still going strong, just tonight i'm a celeb get me out of here started and all i've got for company is a redundant guitar, freecell and candy crush saga....help!
i'm so glad i've made sense at last
i thought i'd give bass a go 2 decades ago. so bought a bass and joined a band who played a bit of everything, but i played it like a lead guitar, and missed my timing quite a lot with the result that i got a lot of telling-offs from the drummer. if i was standing too close on stage i got a drumstick across the knuckles. so my advice; keep it simple, stay in time (listen to the bass drum) and don't try to be too clever
hi jim, must agree, that last verse completes a very beautiful, sentimental and truthful song.
holding that beautiful new life in your hands for the first time will be one of the greatest moments in your life. make time for the child and be prepared to accept all the accusations that you are spoiling the child, of course you will enjoy doing just that, like i have and still am.

[C] Two steps [E] forward and [F] one step [C] back
[Am] Trying to get thing [Dm] back on [G7] track
[C] Seem to be [E] working all [F] hours all [C] week
[Am] But my finances [D7] still look [G7] bleak
[F] The credit cards [Fm] maxed, there’s [C] bill to [Am] pay
[D7] More brown envelopes are [G7] on the way
[F] Too much [Fm] work and [C] not enough [Am] play
[D7] Can’t afford a [G7] holiday.
HI BEESTIE, just a suggestion as you said you'd like something less simple. still simple chords....
by the way, loved the song and i recognise every sentiment and the way you've written it...brill

You must have the deluxe version of Volume Three, then Phill. I looked for just the DVD on Amazon and the one I found is way out of my budget and it was the only one.

i boxed clever bill, with 4 children and 11 grandkids, i just mention what i'd like for christmas or birthday. i dropped the hint this week about the Beatles No1 DVD. i feel so wicked sometimes
tweeter and the monkeyman...my all time favourite bob dylan song. i also love "cool dry place"
whenever i joined a new band we would always practise on acoustic guitars even the bassist so he'd get a feel for the rhythm of the song. the drummer would normally tap his knees. it's important for the singer to get the keys of each song right and for everyone to suggest what song they would like in the set list, this would be the time to do it while it's quiet. thing with electrics it can turn into a chaotic jam session at the drop of a hat then nothing gets done, although you feel great during and after.
If you're on Win10 try RECOVERY from the "settings" tab it gives you the option of dumping files you don't want while reinstating windows and the ones you do want. i'm no expert.
thanks for the listen and comments.
ark, it wasn't meant to have half the stuff that got on there, just acoustic and the lead bit. after i posted the song i added strings for my CD version "on sale at your local tesco".....i wish
thank you very much jandle, we aim to please anyone know how to do an upside down smiley?
TF, it makes a lot of sense, i hate it when i get to the end of a song just to find that the eagles did it first
but keep trying, you and BGD, if i can help, let your fingers do the walking
I've got theCD and the CD with the DVD of the making of both records love it to bits
big thanks jim, what a review!
if you read the post above to bill you'll see why the voice had pain in it. i cant see me performing it live....it took me the best part of an hour to work out and record the solo to my satisfaction. so not much chance of me reproducing it live.
thanks for listening and commenting

thanks for the thumbs up peatle.
hi bill, it's not actually me but my second son (i have 3 and a daughter) he's had quite a bit of strife in his grown up life. this one is about his first love, they got together in their teens, sounds familiar bill? had 2 kids then split up. 15 years or so later they got back and had a third child. everyone gets rough patches but she suddenly upped and left with the kids and all the house furnishings. a year later and she's returned with all the chattels apart from the 2 older kids whom she blames for the walk out .
the rest of the family blame her as a devious "female canine"
and know that sooner or later she'll walk out again.
as you can see this is playing on my mind and if you look back at my scribblings over the past year you'll see that this is not my first rant.
i don't know why i'm telling you all this and i apologize if i'm boring you with my troubles and personal life, but like bill i feel you are all friends
Hello William,
How the devil did I miss this one. Oh yes September I was on holiday.
I loved it, we have all been there. A true story; I met Ann, the wife, when we were both 16 but I thought she was out of my league, so I didn't persue her. We met again at age 30 fell in love (again for me) and married, and stayed that way for 35 years come may 9 next year. I had all the fantasies that teenage boy's get and we both had failed marriages.
I hope your story worked out for you or you got over it. It's early morning here so I can't try it out so I'll give it a go later. Let you know how I get on.
Your friend
Phill
hi grah, thank you, it was meant to be just a demo till i got an arrangement worked out, so the acoustic and vocal were done together, which is not the way i normally do it, but i think it sounds OK? i was thinking about another verse and/or a bridge, but the guitar and piano solos won. and i thought 4 + minutes was enough
thanks BGD, you know how it is; you pick up the guitar, just for a strum, then you end up playing a nice chord progression then words come...etc etc etc
thanks bill. the link is at the top. i know i usually put it at the bottom but i was in a rush
great, moving song. you play very well and your voice is brill. well done.

please UJB put me on your map, i've always wanted one of those pins
i wouldn't dare just go out and buy a new piece of equipment, i always talk it over with her first. she has a screaming hab-dabs then eventually she'll say OK if you really need it. and we always really need it, don't we?
when i get it home, i try and be cool and sit and watch tv for a while then she'll say "aren't you going to play with your new toy then?" which is my prompt to go tinkle....or tinker, strum, bash!
with just a little encouragement your song has evolved from another "knocking on heavens door" sound alike to "faith, hope, strength; survivor" which is what i think you should rename it. only a suggestion not a demand, another would be to stop trying to hide your voice, take a deep breath and push it out there as dylan does. i noticed you had a few high notes and you reached them with no problem, project your voice as a drama coach would say, do not be ashamed, sing to the back of the room not just to the mic a few inches away. once again....well done
phill
great job both of you, very dramatic guitar playing and fab back-up singing.
