unfortunately all my kids live within 5 minutes walking distance, except the one living in Australia! just kidding about the unfortunately bit!
yep you're quite right about the growing-up and moving on and how good it is to see them (go home?) LOL. with 11 grandkids the quiet life the wife and i dreamt of as they were growing up hasn't happened yet and is unlikely to...enjoyed the poem, i'd like to see more.

in defense of postmen, our local guys are all really friendly and will give a nod or smile and say hello.
there is a lot of ageism as TV seems to be aimed at the under 30's.
having said that your song rings true. well written and observed, nice one graham...

we used to holiday quite a bit in Turkey and seeing a turkish chef in a chinese or indian restaurant is a bit weird, but who cares as long as the food is good?

hi artie, there's no thrill like playing with other musos. i always tell youngsters that say they want to become "pop stars" get into a band of some kind and learn your trade before going on X factor and expecting to be the next big thing.
i found getting music books and learning scales then listening to recorded music and listening to how the song was recorded, strumming patterns etc helped me to a great extent. all i can say is try a lesson or two before committing yourself to a whole course of tuition that you may regret after a while, you may just be picking-up the instructors style when you really want to develope your own.
you obviously have a talent or you wouldn't have been asked in the first place...and don't worry about taking a long time to learn parts, i tend to forget whole lines of songs that i've been performing for 40 years, and it's almost impossible to learn new songs. but i keep trying ![]()

PS, in all honesty, I never know what a song is going to be about until it's finished, I don't plan them it's just the way they come out.
glad you like it even if it is a bit of a wimp...:lol: but I think it's about modern day bounty hunters, bail bonds etc?

Joined the club at last eh? I also have a tele and a strat, but I have to say I prefer the tele. Only fault is that the neck is a bit short so has less frets than Gibson guitars. I find it a little uncomfortable playing the high part on Albatross. Other than that...joyo.:D

FYI Mr Zurf, there are no X,Z,K,J,Q or V's in the Welsh alphabet, but close ![]()
but you will find Dd which sounds like a hard th. Ll, is totally unexplainable, Ch, which is good for clearing your phlegm and Ff which sounds like F as F sounds like V. it may sound complicated, but it's my first language ![]()
history lesson coming up;
Christianity was well established in Britain long before the English (Vikings) or the Roman catholic church came along. St David, who is buried in the cathedral in the city that bears his name on the west coast of Wales was kicking evil's backside just after the Romans left and died in the 6th century.
another piece of trivia for you, i once wrote a song called "magie coulter" about a homeless lady that died on her pilgrimage to the city of St Davids...seems like a long time ago....

Re: Agree/Disagree With The Following (18 replies, posted in Recording)
i had to post a second time on this one.
my fav bob dylan has to be "tweeter and the monkey man" from the travelling wilberys.
as for others not quite hitting the notes; i've often had to accompany punters that want to come up and give a song, very often singing each verse in a different key.
i had one guy that sounded exactly like tom jones, pitch perfect, beautiful tonal quality, but he had no idea of timing so kept coming in before the beat or changing the rhythm midway through a verse, totally oblivious to what he was doing. he came 2nd in a tom jones sound alike competition...if he could keep time he might have won...who knows?

Re: Agree/Disagree With The Following (18 replies, posted in Recording)
1. disagree, my father couldn't carry a tune in a bucket, whistling or singing. he was a truck driver back in the 50's and i used to go with him during school holidays, the engine noise was so bad i could only just hear him whistling some unknown tune, which was usually totally single note and half the notes he played were flat! ![]()
on the other hand has anyone heard bob dylans latest offerings? he sounds like me on a sunday morning after a very hard saturday night (singing)
yet still in tune, just very rasp-y
2. i've got one of those, i just hum the tune and play random notes until i find the right one. ![]()

hi the pathetics, sorry no one has replied to your query.
if you want to get guitar effects (FX) the best way to go is an FX pedal such as Boss ME range. i have an ME 50 which gives me all the FX i need with built in phaze, chorus, many different grades of distortion or fuzz, reverb and echo. i can only suggest that you go to your nearest music shop and try a few out, go through all the different stages and decide if it's what you want.
another way to go would be "stomp box" with these you can decide what you want and buy just what you require, eg just fuzz, or you can add a chorus pedal and or compressor, echo the list is almost endless. but try them first if you can, don't go by other people playing them cos they can always make them sound wonderful but when you get them home they may not sound so good.

not a problem young william,
the guy was in trouble because as women have this jealous and suspicious mind they immediately jump to the conclusion that her man is having an affair. ergo; between a rock and a hard place, damned if you do. damned if you don't. it was a joke of course as the guys wife was sitting beside him and laughing too.
maybe it's a British sense of humour thing? must have got wet crossing the pond ![]()

there was no point moving the spam to mods so i just deleted.
as an aside, the rapier in TF's pic was the one that got me drooling at a shop window back in the 60's. i must have been around 12 at the time and after it had been sold i told my mother about it and she said she'd gone in to price it for me but they wanted a whole 12 pounds! which i guess was a lot of money in those days...so say lavvie. i've got a wilson bass though, and still play it. it's previous owner must have been one of those heavy metal guys with the big cross hanging round his neck as the ruts are still there...ha, ha

ed, that's brilliant, and i mean that. the metre is perfect, the metaphors run sweet, and i hate to say it...it's all the things that my poem isnt. i tried to wax lyrical but having read yours there is still a ton of work to do on it.

Re: children (17 replies, posted in Poems)
thanks jim, deep answer my friend. i never thought of all the people that have come and gone from my life. i worked with a guy only for a year or two that had worked in the factory for 50 years from when he left school. he was made to retire though he didn't want to, and kept saying that if needed he would drop everything and be back to help if needed. the place carried on without him much to his surprize and he died within a year. after that i found a slogan;
work to live. don't live to work.
