Any of you moderators --- I cannot figure out how to change the post title --- I included the word little and I want it out. I wanted the post to say Forever Might Only Be For A While ( Sad, but uplifting) If you can change it , please do so so it matches the title . Thanks, and I hope you liked it.

I also agree - do it for yourself and if others appreciate it, then you are an artiste and artist - you paint the pictures that mean something to you, you tell the story of the picture (from your perspective) through the music and lyrics. It's why we all gravitate to songwriting on chordie - we share our stories.
This is a site of an interview by Butch Walker - talking about his song entitled 21+over It is an awesome song - but his explanation in the interview before he plays it is awesome - just what many of you were saying here.
the link is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MHDNmtK6w8
He has a new album called afraid of ghosts - its really good.

Topic: Songwriting experiment for Chordians (57 replies, posted in Songwriting)
How about this for a songwriting game -
I would recommend Phill (or some other moderator) to start it with a title and a first line of first verse and the first line of the chorus. { the mod gets to set limit on number of verses. If they want a bridge - they can add that too} After that, each of us gets to add one line - that's it - one line chorus or verse. It could be the first collaborative totally Chordian song. Whoever starts it - they get to add the chords with the "chordy magic" at the end.
I think it could be FUN and bring in many different ideas and elements. I also believe it could be kind of exciting, offering collaboration, anticipation and dependency.
Just sayin.......

Seriously.....
I had a problem with Amazon.com - the 8 (Yes, that's right, eight!) Amazon agents that I spoke or chatted with initially were all from the Philippines ! I did not get resolution until I demanded that I speak with some one from the U.S.
Two days later I had to order some ink from Dell. I ordered over the phone - guess what - the agent selling the ink was from - the Philippines as well.
I teach an an economics class in my high school, yesterday I had the 30 students look at each others shirt or sweater labels - result - all but 2 were made in another country - ranging from Vietnam to Pakistan, Mexico and others. TWO were made in USA>
DINO is Spot on !! And TF is as well, we have done it to ourselves - with the addendum of thank you politicians !!

Thanks Brian
I feel so blessed to have discovered Chordie - so many great people here!
I listened to your song Life of Reilly - very impressive !! I liked it very much. ( I have some Irish DNA in my family)
I see you are from New Zealand - and ironically one of my good friends just flew there for a animal expedition / environmental study - he works for New York State Dept of Conservation.
I like to play and enjoy the time so much, but really - my singing is really bad - so I am vocally dependent of covers by good men like Phill and Graham. ( and Phill is super good at playing- what a bonus) I also enjoy all the conversations, so interesting, knowledgeable and topically diverse. My time on Chordie increases every day! ![]()
Thanks again !!
Jim

Re: noise shaped dithering? (16 replies, posted in Recording)
it so much reminds me of the old Steve MArtin Comedy routine - which I still use routinely when there are things I don't understand - anyone remember this?
“Ok, I don’t like to gear my material to the audience but I’d like to make an exception because I was told that there is a convention of plumbers in San Francisco this week – I understand about 30 of them came down to the show tonight – so before I came out I worked-up a joke especially for the plumbers. Those of you who aren’t plumbers probably won’t get this and won’t think it’s funny, but I think those of you who are plumbers will really enjoy this…
“This lawn supervisor was out on a sprinkler maintenance job and he started working on a Findlay sprinkler head with a Langstrom 7″ gangly wrench. Just then, this little apprentice leaned over and said, “You can’t work on a Findlay sprinkler head with a Langstrom 7″ wrench.” Well this infuriated the supervisor, so he went and got Volume 14 of the Kinsley manual, and he reads to him and says, “The Langstrom 7″ wrench can be used with the Findlay sprocket.” Just then, the little apprentice leaned over and said, “It says sprocket not socket!”
“Were these plumbers supposed to be here this show…?”

Re: noise shaped dithering? (16 replies, posted in Recording)
Phill,
Dithering is the process of intentionally adding noise to the signal prior to its quantization. Dithering turns quantization distortion all the way down by randomizing quantization errors.
Dithering is mostly used when down-converting from the higher resolution bit-depths - such as 24-bit or 32-bit - down to 16-bit, the actual standard for distributing digital audio files. Dithering is also used during the analog-to-digital conversion and inside A/D converters, although noise inherent in the analog signal often serves as a natural source of dither in these cases.
I really have no idea what that means, I have enough trouble playing f's and bm chords!
With that said, my mama used to tell me that if I dithered to much I'd go blind, so I just did it til I needed glasses ! ![]()
Hope you had a great day Phill - with or without dithering!
Jim

Re: Gold in the River (4 replies, posted in Poems)
That is awesome, man !
Those are terrific lyrics. Great message.
As a teacher of and coach of 40 years, I have seen schools do the same thing to long time educators that have devoted their lives to so many students. All of a sudden they get the hits end of the schedules and worse scenarios to handle - in an effort to encourage them to retire so it will save the district $$$$$$.
Your message is somewhat different because it's by choice to leave - and for all the right reasons.
It doesn't get any better than to be able to live in peace at " home" , with someone you love, surrounded by the beauty of nature. If you have those, and your health, you have it all, no billions can buy it. For me it's being with my wife and my daughters during Springtime in the great hills and valleys of central NY and the beaches of Topsail Island of NC - it totally rejuvinates my soul.
Thanks to both Tenement Funster and D Ed for sharing such valuable words - it made my morning.
ps Ed - are you going to post with chords on songwriting ? I would love to hear how this goes.

Phill,
Nice song. Lyrics are excellent and your musicianship is unquestioned. (I was however expecting it to be a little"rougher" as it is about a rough and tumble gunslinger
) I so enjoyed the picture of the youngster on the horse with the rifle- guessing its a grandchild!
Well done my friend!!
