i learnt "jessica" in the dark. each morning before going to work (by 6 am) i got out my guitar and picked out the tune. at my peak i could talk to someone and play it at the same time, now i cant even play it note perfect, i'm so afraid of messing up that i dont play it unless asked!

i usually have a great idea for a song when i'm in the shower, so i go over it, modifying the words, chords and beat, then i get out of the shower, dry and dress then by the time i get to my note book, i've forgotten the damn thing. why do i always get these ideas at stupid times?

there was a concert on sky arts1 (UK) the other day with jeff beck and his group with guests. i couldn't watch it all but what i saw almost made me give-up playing all together. he's obviously developed his own style over the years since "hi ho silver lining" but soooo amazing!! and not just him his drummer was phenomenal, if i could have found a drummer like that i'd have never gone solo! the bass played was a young lady, and i mean young early 20's maybe? she had a solid rhythmic style and even threw in some solo's, amazing. i think she may have been his daughter but i may be over guessing there. the keyboardist was also great...what a band. i'd be afraid to play with them in the audience.

well maybe, jim's a little jealous of the guitar, conversely...you might just love the guitar a little more than you love jim? of-course you might just be worried about wood worm? LOL

unfortunately jamier, it's one of those reality programmes that are all over TV these days, it's rather like jerry wotzizname on steroids without the fake fights. when the fights start, the camera cuts away and all the swear words are beeped out, so you miss most of the conversation.
oh yeah, jerry springer

Re: bought a new car (28 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
you chaps across the pond must have got it easy? we have this dreaded nightmare called the "MOT" which is a test that can either allow you to drive your car or send it to the scrap heap. once a car attains the grand old age of 3 years, it has to endure this test and any little thing can cost hundreds of £'s. emissions are a big part of it and you wont get away with smoke belching out the tail pipe! tyres must have at least 2.5 mm of tread, damage to the body work can also get you the red card. i try to avoid the stress of the MOT by buying new then changing again when they reach 3 years though i kept this last one for 4 years, but there were too many electronics on it, and they are too costly to change. nothing gets repaired any more it's all "whip out the old one and stick in the new one... £200 please." what really put the frighteners on me was when i was told if the electric hand break conks out (and it might) the cost would be £1500!!!! i'd have to do a lot of gigs to make that back, without a car....

can anyone go for 32 years with the same person without them hating and loving you at the same time? i would say no. i am more than adequately adept at getting up peoples nose, and frequently wind the wife up, so this song sums up our relationship. no matter what we're still each others best friend. it's played in watz time

Re: bought a new car (28 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
wow, i didnt expect to get such a reaction over my weepy goodbye to my renault scenic. it was only 4 years old and done just 22000 miles, but it had all the toys, lights and wipers that come on by themselves, elec windows and parking brake, all round, keyless entry and start, folding wing mirrors, the only thing i had to do was fill it up, and it did 60 miles to the gallon, (diesel). the new car has a manual hand break and i have to close the mirrors myself. it's a Dacia, which is made by Renault, so i trust it. the acceleration is brilliant for a 1500 cc engine and i got 100 mph out of it last night. oh and it looks like a 4x4, but it's just a 2x4. i'll have to give it a wash after the 2 gigs i did the weekend (got to pay for it now) then i'll take some photo's and post them. let you know when their up. glad we dont get the bad snow here.

i was offered a fab deal on a new car and as i got the same deal for my son and daughter first i thought why not? then i thought about my old car which i bought new in 2009, it's got all the toys (keyless entry and start up. automatic lights and wipers. lots of room for my gear etc) and though i've got most of that on the new car, i almost burst into tears after the deal was done and i saw my old car fade into the distance in my rear view mirror.
it's the same feeling i had when i had to buy new speakers cos my old ones packed up. i needed them ASAP so i didn't have time to get them repaired, so they sit in my junk room gathering dust. i'm feeling very melancholy. someone help me feel better please.....
i have a far away gig tomorrow night so the new car will have a good inaugural initiation. they tell me it does around 50-60 miles to the gallon so that softens the blow.

I can sing and play about 4 hours of songs without repeating, on a gig night I usually do around 3 hours, it's nice to rotate my set and have options for different audiences. I cant say I have favorites to play, to listen to, yes, but I play to the audience not my self.

thanks jamie. it's a sad truth theses days that drug use (at least in the UK) is a family affair. if you watch programmes like Jeremy Kyle (and i try not to) you get to see the dregs of society fighting it out on TV over who's used the last of the heroin.

names in brackets () mean Phill's verse or Jeffs verse. we were going to sing verse for verse, but due to recording problems, i ended up singing it right through. hopefully this problem will not affect future projects.
the recording can be heard if you click the web button to your left. we would both appreciate your comments.

Re: an empty bed (6 replies, posted in Poems)
Hi Jeff,
thanks for the read, my argument is that no one forced the addicts to become addicts (unless ditto "French Connection") there is enough education out there now for kids to know what they are getting themselves into.
a young lad came to work in the same factory as me, at first he was diligent and wanted to learn the job. after a while his time keeping became tardy and he'd arrive at work looking like something you might step in at a dogs home! we learnt that he had given another lad a cocktail of drugs which killed the lad, unintentionally, then a few months later he himself died during a drug orgy. his friends dumped his body in an alley!
the police and the government delight in telling us (if we are caught) that it is up to us to find out what the law says, so we must have a knowledge of the law, "cos they aint gonna tell us". yet there is so much said, and written in the papers about drug abuse, that addicts have no excuse.
i also blame TV, music and films that glorify drug taking. during the 60's the Beatles said that taking LSD expanded their minds and permitted them to write better songs. this is crap IMO. Lennon had been a heroin addict but was clean when he was murdered. the "Double fantasy" album was written clear of drugs and alcohol!
"All you need is love"
sorry for the sermon

i have no sympathy for drug addicts or even for occasional users, as i believe that any kind of drug abuse will lead to heavier use and possibly addiction to stronger and more dangerous drugs.
this poem is on it's way to becoming a song and gives a stark warning at the effect that addiction and death from drug taking can have on those who live on...the families.
An empty bed. by phill williams.
little people live in shadows.
so they ride upon that train
living half their lives in ecstasy
the other half in pain
spending all their money
then they steal to get some more
living for that moment
every day
living for the score
then all the friends and family
that tried to help are gone
and the needle lays upon the ground
and the heart just can't go on
and another nameless urchin
that the streets have claimed lay dead
while another distraught mother
mourns his empty bed.

i used to own a wilson semi acoustic, never had any probs only traded it in for a strat. still own and play a wilson bass, (with the original pick-ups) must have been made in the 70's as there are deep ruts where the previous owner had been wearing one of those huge crosses the metal guys used to wear back then, i wonder what happened to mine?
i wasn't aware they were still in business either....

i suppose this is the chat corner so we can talk about anything and everything? and we do! but wouldn't it be much simpler to go straight to "song requests" that is if you have a request that pertains to a song you'd like to get the chords or tabs for. this is why we have the forum menu.
i'm not really a picky person, but i do get annoyed when people don't read or pay attention to the menu or instructions.

hi johnk, welcome, i use a "focusright scarlett" which came with a "cut down" recording studio in the box in the shape of a CD which you must down-load onto your PC. the FRS attaches to the PC by means of USB. the studio has a good many FX's and if you buy the full program you get a whole lot more. i paid around
