I think "Russell's Park Bench" would be a GREAT name for your act.  I'll have to wait until I get on another computer to check out the video.

The weather is cooperating and once again my favorite park bench is the ideal spot to rehearse or compose new songs, this song in a cover of Neil Young's "After the gold rush" one of the songs requested in the Chordie set list topic and only the second cover song on myspace hope you enjoy smile

Stransongs thanks for your comments it took a little for me to appreciate Lyle for his abilities I was sidetracked by his appearance, the old saying "cant judge a book by its cover" comes to mind and I just added "Wagon Wheel" by Old Crow Medicine Show to my set list fun song to play and sing smile

Lieven I dont care what he thinks he's a murderer and as far as Manson I dont need to be reminded of what kind of a monster he is once was enough.

DO YOU REALLY THINK THAT "THAT MAN" AWAKES IN THE MORNING AND THINK ABOUT WHAT HE DID? Look to his pictures, and you know more than enough.
Did you see on YOUTUBE Charles Manson? INCREDIBLE

Hi doral and welcome to Chordie nylon strings are used on acoustic guitars steel on electric the pickups on an electric are designed for steel strings there are some electric acoustics but putting nylon strings on a electric would affect the sustain and volume you might try useing a lighter gauge set of strings and its normal with a lot of practice for your fingers to hurt but with time that will go away but I would try a lighter set and see if that helps first before putting nylon on your electric smile

Helena wonderful insightful words in these lines and it is so good to see you back on Chordie I hope your path is one filled with love and friends smile

Thanks Wayne it is a hybrid cross between finger pickin and strumming with my thumb its a less rigid playing style for me I also use it on the video "Aleta" on myspace smile

Conan O'Brien showed a photo of him without the hairpiece it was really eerie not that he looked all that great before just the stark image of a murderer was unsettling what he accomplished earlier in life is all wiped out because his deed is what he will be remember for.

Thanks Jeff and I would have loved to have been there, who knows next year I may make the pilgrimage to Zurf's mecca lol

Hi Phill I hope Muckka means friend lol yea I'm still pickin and as soon as I can get my act together I most likely will use the "upcoming gigs" feature on myspace who knows I might get booked in Europe lol (ho ho) the song is a little like "The Gambler" form Kenny Rogers but Lyle adds a few twists to make it distinctive,I still am waiting on some equipment that should come in the next few days so I can get started with setting up the presentation (rehearse the act) this may take a few weeks as I do not want to play unprepared before a live audience and there's so much potential with this new gear to "boldly go where no man has gone before, seek out new civilizations" sort of lol

Ken I did the same thing I typed in a response and checked the spelling with my spellcheck and hit the forum tab and wiped out all of the text and I too was tired and thought aarg and did not redo the post regarding this song Lyle plays the song capoed on the 9th fret the same as in my video but you can capo on the 4th and use the open chord formation C Am G or capo on the 2nd fret and use the open chord formation D G A and bar C#m or play the E in the 1st posistion with the chords open E B C# smile

Outstanding!!!! sounds like a great day and it could turn into an annual event nice to hear you did my song I am looking forward to the photos and a video if you did manage to get it smile

Well God bless ya glad to hear Jets and DT stopped by and that is always a plus to actually meet people you only chat or exchange post with here on Chordie I saw Lyle in the video and he had it capoed on the 9Th fret and so I figured why not the chords are easy and the vocal range in not to high and this was only a rough take but I figured what the heck lol

Thanks Doug (I think lol ) well Julia and Lyle did split up but if I was Lucky enough to have that lady heaven and earth couldn't come between and I ain't ever gonna be skinny again nor were any Afro wig so chances are slim to none but there's always my guitar to keep me company and I can pick on her as much as I want and she never gets mad lol

I normally do not do cover songs but I am with the help of members and Chordies song library putting a set list together because I have decided to unretire and do some gigs so I picked up some new gear and Zurf pointed me to this Lyle Lovett song "If I had a boat" and after watching the video I got to liking it so I did a cover of it this morning I did have to read the lyrics as I haven't had time to commit it to memory so Zurf here's the first cut hope you enjoy smile

Wayne I purchased a Fender Squire 4 its a lightweight 4 channel with reverb and two cabinets with 10" speakers and pole sockets the amp puts out 85 watts which is more then enough for me I have a photo of it in the guitars and accessories forum here(topic RC-20XL) on Chordie  I'M familiar with "Sunday morning coming down" another good song to add and I have a Digitech vocalist that can add 3 part harmony in real time and hey if mom likes something you do she still loves you smile

Hey Russ,

Just curious what pa system you're getting.Sounds exciting with all the new toys to keep you busy.A song I do that people really seem to like is "Sunday Morning Coming Down"  I use my vocal 4 on the chorus and even my mother likes it and she doesn't like much of what I do.I guess I'm still paying for my misspent youth.

Zurf "if I had a pony" has just been added thanks, lyle clamps a capo on his 9th fret and fingerpicks a open G Em D progression with an occasional C thrown in I have already memorized the progression and I can sing it in the same key so I just sing along and play to the video great song thanks again smile
