I'm not sure which one to use as the chorus, its between these two right now:
      IV                                  I
the sound of the trainand the smell of the rain
                                      V
stirs up that old ramblin' bone
      IV
the wind moans your blues
      I
the road wears your shoes
                            V                     I
and you can't ever find your way home

AND

hop another train
self medicate the pain
look back at where you should have been
the cycle won't stop
till the bubble has popped
and you face the real world again

Im also considering doing the verses in sets of two, then go to chorus.

but whichever one it ends up being the chords will be as shown on chorus... as for tabbing a solo that will take me some time to work one out. (thats always the hard part for me), but I'll try to come up with something. And yeah I looked up that song, i'm not really familiar with the band, they're some kind of rock music?? The lyrycs were good anyway....

well this song could be pulled in more than one direction, so I'm thinking the best thing is to blend! maybe an acousticy slidey intro, into heavier chords, but at a steady rolling pace...

something like

l-----------------------------
l------------------------------
l------------------------------
l--------0- 2---2--2--2-2-2--
l-2/4/2----2---2--2--2-2-2--
l-----------0---0--0--0-0-0--

then you know up, then back, then down, then back...
whatcha think tibernius?

I like 'em, wouldn' hurt your feelings if i trimmed em a little to fit the structure would it? something like

but you just keep going
cuz you know nothing
is free and theres nothing we can't beat
gotta keep your faith in the rain
to see the sun shine again
and hope the next train brings the world to our feet

or anyway something like that

hmm.... yeah you know what I think you might be right. as for chords i'm not sure yet. something very acousticy but i don't think so much country as alot of my songs. i'm thinking kind of an acoustic rock feel??

the first verse i've had for a while, the others i just threw together in the last few minutes. I'm thinking about using the last verse as a chorus, any ideas anybody??

well its the same old cliches
told a thousand ways
and you feel like just one more song
about bad luck and hard times
paid dues and crossed lines
and real good intentions gone wrong

you've seen it before
just another closed door
and a sign that says 'do not disturb'
another step back
white lies dressed in black
a child that was seen and not heard

the sound of the train
and the smell of the rain
stirs up that old ramblin' bone
the wind moans your blues
the road wears your shoes
and you can't ever find your way home

hop another train
self medicate the pain
look back at where you should have been
the cycle won't stop
till the bubble has popped
and you face the real world again

A while back doc was askin' about american church traditions, which led to a conversation in which he made the remark "And those Gospel Songs, it is strange, for us, in Europe, because we don't have this phenomenon. A swinging and rocking priest, who sings (?)" I thought that was funny so (as I think I said I would) wrote a song about it.
Its kind of a tribute to my dad who plays piano like nobody i've ever heard, I mean he can tear the thing up. And he plays this song (i think its kind of an improvised 'goodbye world goodbye') that he calls 'the gospel boogie woogie', which is exactly what it is lol It sounds like rock and roll blues and honky tonk, but its about Jesus and ive seen people get all worked up. So anyway, doc this one's for you big_smile,

well I just bought a takamine G340, which brand new and not on sale would run you around 300-350$, or a bit more for the cutaway. I also have smaller hands and find it quite comfortable. the sound is also excellent, and it gets good volume for a strictly acoustic instrument.
I would highly reccomend this particular model, as would quite a few other players I know, but then again the best thing is to try it for yourself. Sometimes a guitar just feels right, you'll see what I mean when you pick it up. Try more than one and go with one that feels and sounds right to you.

Seems like lately there's a guitar craze going around, except not for actual real guitars but these "toys" such as guitar hero, band something or other, and this new thing that you play by following the lights and you download song off the internet. They've got slogans like 'be a real guitar hero' or 'play like a legend', and everybody's buying these things without realizing that by the time you buy a consol, guitar controller and game, you could have almost bought a real guitar and learned how to play! The guitar is ALWAYS cool, but plastic video  games????
Ive played guitar hero, and I'll admit it was kind of fun for a while (even though anything you know about real guitars completely contradicts the way you play the game), but I think all this mess is pretty stupid really. GET A REAL GUITAR FOR CHRIST"S SAKE! If you want to be seen as a guitar player then become one, you'll look alot cooler playing a real one anyways...

Matt minglewood's cool too by the way, real nice acousticy blues.

well howdy, (do I detect a southern background perhaps?) big_smile
I think its great that your mixing blues in with your metal music, the best music comes from a mixture of influences. Maybe you could post a link for us to hear some of your work?

um maybe you coulg reccomend a song by government mule to look up? I went to the website and the audio wouldn;t load up so I'm gonna try somewheres else.
Dino, while thats an awesome suggestion, I'm pretty well learned when it comes to willie and waylon and the boys. (hank williams, , geroge jones, haggard, david allen coe, ernest tubb, jimmy rodgers, johnny cash, etc. etc.) I also listen to Bb King, john lee hooker, muddy waters,, even some ray charles fats domino, otis redding....
I also listen to some not so mainstream country music, like Shooter Jennings and Hank III for instance, but rock bands I have trouble keeping up with it seems

My brother, who uses my account to get chords from time to time, plays banjo. He also plays mandolin, piano, accordian, guitar, .... and well just about anyhting he picks up I guess.

Well TWIST, you would, naturally, have to take it from the coon lol
Maybe if you happen to know someone who hunts alot you could talk them into giving you one, I don't know of anywhere you could actually buy one....

Yeah so here's what I came up with, of course as Jerome pointed out its a simple I,IV, amd V pattern so you can transpose it to whatever key you like. Its kind of slowish and bouncy.
Thanks to everyone for the kind comments and suggestions,

The majority of my songs start with a scribbled line at the bottom of my journal page, a few words sometimes they rhyme, and I'll go 'hey I like this one', so I add to it. You just kind of 'go with the flow' you know? Sometimes I'll write what I want to say or what I feel in plain sentences, then try to convert that into a song format. Another thing that helps is just strumming along with your melody and just letting whatever seems to fit come out, some of it you can keep and some of it you can't, but you never know when those great little chunks of inspiration are gonna turn up.

Haha, yeah I reckon Zurf.
There's a Hank Williams song that says, 'I got to the river so lonesome I wanted to die, so I jumped in the river but the doggone river was dry."
Sometimes you just can't win for losin' I guess.

What IS in the book is a good number of scriptures comparing the relationship of Christ and the church to that of man and woman.

We both like the same kinda music and it definately aint no willie nelson. I'm talkin like slow rock/alternative kinda music. thanks though...

Thats why I suggested Beyond the Sun, a slow acousticy rock song.... I would stress before you start really ticking these other people off: you're only 15, so nothing TOO serious is really gonna come out of this (in the long run anyway), lighten up your still a kid for Christ's sake, grab yourself a cola and a guitar and take life easy friend, the mature world comes soon enough on its own without trying to live it early. And ALSO, for the record, when your singing a song to a girl, its supposed to be about WHAT your saying, not so much if she likes the tune. I'm not even sure she'd appreciate you getting somebody else to pick the lyrycs that match the way YOU feel about her. Thats not putting a whole lot of thought dude.... AND you COULD always write your own since you have to be so dadgum picky.

Haha, well its usually a coke on ice for me when I need a break. See I guess I'm coming across as a depressed person now, which isn't neccesarily true. Being someone who never wears emotions on her sleeves, its the music that recieves the brunt of my frustrations and depressions. So whatever is bothering me ends up (usually) in a song, which is why it is so sad. The happy stuff doesn't need to be written about because its nice in itself (and usually ends up sounding corny and stale anyway). Yes Ive been through a lot in my short time, but it wasn't all bad, Ive laughed a lot more than Ive cried (which is a lot), Ive got some true friends and a place to call home.
So no need for cheering me up, I won't feel bad about the bad stuff till I'm late and can't sleep again, and then there'll be another song big_smile
So thanks for all the compliments yall, and the happy birthday's it was a blast,

Jerome, Ive never read anything you've written before, but I have to say you've got quite a bit of hidden talent. I love it, but of course once again you've reminded me how much more you know than me. (which is why I always ask you when I have a question big_smile) I'm gonna try to simplify this down to my level (I'll probly end up strumming it or maybe some very basic fingerpicking), but I'm sure your version sounds awesome.
