Haven't thought about it much. Life is pretty good for me right now and I guess I don't want to mess things up wishing for something more. But if I had a gun to my head, maybe a couple few microphones and cables.

Topic: Bought myself a belated birthday present (10 replies, posted in Acoustic)
I had a little money burning a hole in my pocket and bought a Duncan Seymour "woody" soundhole pickup. I've only had it for an hour or so now and haven't had the chance to diddle with it much, but it sounds pretty good in my acoustic amp (which sounds like an oxymoron to me).
Now I just need a microphone and XLR cable and I'm ready to embarrass myself with 60 watts worth of volume.

Well, since you don't like Martin's, once you buy that D28 you can send it to me. That'll go through a big wad of your cash.
Otherwise, I've got to say that I played Topdown's CA and it really is a sweet, sweet flat-top.
There are any number of custom luthiers who would be thrilled to separate you from your money in exchange for a well-made instrument.

With this month's edition of Acoustic Guitar, I received a promotional CD for MacPherson guitars. There are 11 songs of some beautiful acoustic jazz. If you subscribe to Acoustic Guitar, give the CD a listen. It'll be worth your time.

I have had the crud beat out of me on enough occasions not to enjoy seeing it beaten out of others. I used to box, so I have no problems with what happens inside a ring. I'll just say that I've tasted enough of my own blood not to enjoy watching fights any longer.

Re: strumming (2 replies, posted in Acoustic)
I don't know that song. However, there's a sticky in the top of this forum titled "strumming patterns video" that will teach you how to figure out strumming patterns for any song. Take a look at that and see if it helps you. Remember that learning to figure out patterns takes time, but the only way to learn is to try. If nothing else, make up a completely different strumming pattern and call it an arrangement. Good luck and have fun.

I knew you were kidding. You can't get a girlfriend from Amazon for $125. And even if you could, you could never keep her without a whole lot more Amazon cards.

The sound in your own head is much different than others hear.
In my head I've got the clarity of James Taylor and the gravitas of Johnny Cash. You are right that the sound in our heads is different! It sounds more like a mixture of the clarity of Mumbles the Dick Tracy villian and the gravitas of Mickey Mouse.

Save for what you really want. I never heard of a banjo uke, but I have heard of a banjotar, which I really want, so I guess it's something similar. Anyway, be careful that the $125 doesn't have an expiration and wait too long then lose out on using it at all.

Re: strap location??? (3 replies, posted in Acoustic)
You probably have it right. It's just an annoying way to attach a strap. Be sure you've run the strap string under the guitar strings. I'm sure you've done that anyway, but it bears mention.

Eight or nine years ago, CSN was coming to town. Eh, I thought. Then when I heard that Neil Young was joining them, I bought tickets. I figured, "How long can these guys last after all the abuses they've done to their bodies?" Well, I guess they had more staying power than I gave them credit for having.
Neil Young and Steven Stills playing together was amazing. They got to jamming big time on "Cinnamon Girl". David Crosby gave up. He had a stage hand bring him a stool from the acoustic set they had done and just sat on stage with his back to the audience and watched them play as if he was a part of the audience rather than a part of the band. Graham Nash hung in there on keyboards, but he was playing straight chords and keeping time. Neil Young and Steven Stills were playing intertwining solos that built off of one another and sounded so incredibly good. It was obvious that it was Woodshed time and they were just jamming. I guess playing together for forty years will do that for you.

There are three different B chords in that song. Southrnrocker has taken the absolutely sensible approach of avoiding the evil B chord in all it's hideous forms.
Although, if you slide that to A's and D's with a capo on two, it might not be so bad...

Day two on the ellipticle trainer thingy. I have lost a lot of fitness. I used to go for close to an hour and burn over 500 calories. The past two days have been 20 minutes and 140 calories burned - and it's kicking my fanny big time! Though I'm recovering pretty quickly. That's good. Maybe I'll start adding in a walk later in the day. I love to walk and bike ride - just no time for it.

Well Pete and Topdown, 50 pounds from now we can meet up in the middle (would that be Jefferson City?) and spend the evening at a brewpub with an open mic night artificially believing that our singing and playing is impressive to the opposite sex despite spitting and being as cerebral as a buffalo, but knowing all the while that God loves us.
The britches problem can be solved by a trip to Kohl's.

More time on the treadmill is much better than light beer. You are a very wise man, topdown.
I'd rather drink no beer than most light beers. Given that alcohol is high in calories and negligible in nutrition, I am including alcohol in the "treat" category. Although, it has been shown that moderate use (one drink per day for women and up to two drinks per day for men) is healthful, it's still a lot of calories with little benefit.

Topic: Time to get fit (26 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
In the past few years we have had one bit of life after another. Things appear to be settling down (but that's not a challenge to you God). During the stressful few years, I've been a stress eater and have gained a lot of weight. In the past six or eight months I couldn't even make time for exercise so in addition to gaining weight, I have also lost cardiovascular fitness (and of course began gaining weight even faster). So now that the worst stress is over it is time to start taking more care about what and how much I ingest and also to get more fit.
So, today I am starting some new rules. No more than one treat per day and only on days that I exercise. No seconds. And only healthful snacks. No bowl of Cocoa Puffs or cookies for snacks (unless that is my one treat). I have a lot of dietary restrictions and such, so I'm trying to keep it real simple and not have to completely redesign my diet AGAIN. Just eat reasonable quantities of healthful food, permit myself a treat on the days that I exercise, and see how that works for me.
We'll see how long this lasts. My goal is to lose 50 pounds, but I have no particular deadline. So long as I'm going in the right direction on a weekly basis I'll be satisfied. Today I estimate that I am 260#. Oh, and I need to go buy a scale.

Re: practice tips (7 replies, posted in Acoustic)
There are very good practice routines for beginners on www.justinguitar.com. To be clear, I have no affiliation with that site except being a pleased user. The main thing to do is to practice CORRECTLY. Do not practice bad habits into your playing and routine. Also, regardless of what you choose to practice, do it slowly enough that you can do it ACCURATELY. Do not practice inaccurate playing. Speed comes AFTER accuracy. Accuracy first. Also, practice with a metronome so that timing gets ingrained to your brain.

Dang...now I've gotta deal with playing the much-loathed Bb on my uke. Thanks, guys!
No you don't. Only if you want to get it "right", and you won't. That's not an insult, it's just that the Beatles didn't have a ukelele player. Therefore you HAVE to interpret. So, play anything in key and SING LOUD.
