this is a lovelly song, a very haunting melody line and i just love the guitar work, the chords are great, how did you come up with them? i would never have thought of basing a verse on Bm to C, great. and then the key drop to Bb on the chorus. got to say it works so well, nice recording too.

This is a true story about a chap I know, who was due to get married, a very expensive do and honey moon all booked and ready to go. So off he went to Benidorm with about a dozen or so friends. After a week they all came home, except the groom who had met some Scottish guys and decided to stay another week with them. He phoned home to say he needed some time to think.
When he did come home, his fiancee had had enough, she cancelled the wedding the honeymoon, the lot. he tried his best but she stood her ground...it was over.
He swore he'd been a good boy, but that was a lie, and one day it was revealed that he'd got a local girl pregnant as well as what he'd been up to in Benidorm...So one of my favorite lines from the song..."even though I can swear there has never been another, I can't promise that there won't be someone there"...yeh

she must be a special girl to have such a special song written about her.
my daughter was also very clever and full of promise when she was a child, and now she has her own and she's just as bright and clever, you can have a conversation with her at age 3...her older brother is the same [he's 5], but then all my kids [and they're kids] are brill, just like your are i guess? isnt it great to be alive?

this made me smile and laugh and a bit sad too.
it made me remember how i met my 2nd wife, on the night i had my stitches out, i had decided [after 2 "i think i'm pregnant" scares with ladies i didnt fancy living my life with] to have the chop, we met that night and we knew immediately that this was it. a year later we got married and she said she wished we could have a baby, so i had a reversal, 2 kids later i went for a 2nd chop, we now have 8.5 grandkids, no 9 due in october, we've been married 27 years this may...and it doesnt seem a day too long.

love the song, it's got to be good if it makes you remember things from your past, and this does it in spades[as they say]

thanks daddy and helena, funny how you both mentioned the "i had playing again line"
it actually meant...i played the song to remind me of us being together in better times.
sometimes when i'm doing a gig, i might smell the perfume that my wife wears on an other lady, then i yearn to be with my wife even though i know i'll be seeing her in a couple of hours, but you know what i mean now hopefully?

when you write a song you dont decide which way it's going to go, it does that itself, this reminded me of those Scottish songs that have bag pipes and accordions, and looking out on a loch, any way it's all about a lost love...sad innit?

you sound like an adrenelin junkie, unrequited love I guess the message is, well described we've all been there at one time or another, just one question though, gription? is that an Americanism? explain please.

Why is it you always write what I'm thinking?
It is very annoying that I've been writing songs since I was about 9 years old [46 years ago!] and not one has ever done anything, I've sent them to recording companies and got a "not what's happening at the moment, keep trying" reply. after a while you just give up. Having said that, it's great to get support from like minded people like your-self and the others on this site. So lets keep plugging maybe one day....

It's spot on to the Friday nights I remember when I used to go out for a pint, now unfrotunately work has put a stop to that.

Roger, yes I agree with you. To be honest, I do record every song I write, I just still can't upload them to myspace!!!, I am on the musicians page I think as I got to upload one song, then it told me it had not got there. I can't find that page again, I'm just a dick...
I thought that chord might be some kind of G, maybe with an added 4th? On the other hand it could be a variation of E minor with an added 7th and G note on the bottom string! Any way it's all academic, we should leave the arguments for the people who care about chromatic sequences and things like that. I'm just a strummer who learned to play chords [very loudly] so that I could sing in my bedroom with out people thinking I was crazy!

As usual I was messing around on the old string box, when a riff came to the old digits, then words sprang to mind, it ended up a little morose, as it deals with a castaway waiting for the angels to come and take him. As usual the words wrote themselves, all I had to do was find a title, it reminded me of the Robinson Crusoe story, even though it has nothing to do with him, or the Tom Hanks film! Hope you like it...

In all honesty, modern music, maybe goes more into the less innocent themes, [not the I love you, you love me..forever and ever stuff of the 50's and 60's], it's more brutal these days, and maybe that's sad in itself, as maybe pop music is committing suicide.
Music for the masses, it may be, but styles and fashions are created and directed by the suits and producers, whose only interest is making another million on the backs of the young and gullible.
Check out Simon Cowell; eats `em up and spits `em out. In other words, he makes and act, [usually mildly talented] makes them into household names, then before they can ask to actually have a say in their next recording he drops them for another flash in the pan!

I just do not understand rap or the fact that other people can!
It is a sad fact that they believe that enough "F" words in a song will make it more listenable or a better song. Well I cant listen, and I turn the radio off when I hear it, I certainly would not buy a recording with bad language on it, and a rap song would have to be something special...sadly very few are.
I'm sorry, but recordings that blatantly borrow from other songs [either words drum loops or even whole sections of a standard of yesteryear is unacceptable. Rap songs do this continuously and unashamedly.
It's a sad fact that "Chordie" [so full of talented writers,] may never have a writer make it to the big time. Why? because the songs on these pages are heartfelt songs, songs that have a meaning and a story, not how much of a **** someone might be, or how they are going to get spaced out on drugs, or even glorification of gang culture and killing.
I am a John Lennon fan, but I'm so sad to say that he might have been the first to use the "F" word on record ["Working Class Hero"]...make my day and tell me he was not!

GREAT LYRICS, haven't had a chance to play along with the chord sequence [my lady's sleeping] and very topical.
What is really annoying is that profits come before anything else with governments and industrialists. If only they would take less profits and clean up their emissions, I work in a plant that has copper dust in the air, plus gasses associated with the tinning process, add to that the mineral oils and other chemicals associated with the manufacturing process, I and my workmates breathe this in every day, but it also goes out into the atmosphere!!!
Fact; we all want to feed our families; so we need to work for big bucks, [if we're lucky] and we also want to be independent by having our own means of transport [public transport being so crap in the UK] so therefor we are not too bothered with global warming, etc. And most of us believe it wont really happen, maybe little green men will come and save us all from ourselves at the eleventh hour.
Here's a flash; they didn't come and save us before the first and second world wars broke out! so whats the chance now?
Any way, we'll probably get wiped out by a giant asteroid like the dinosaurs before that happens, then when the ants and beetles have evolved enough, they can puzzle over what we were, and how we lasted so long.
Now I'm depressed

those last two verses you could use as choruses or bridges, try a different beat for them or maybe
change the chords and find an alternate melody for them sounds good though, in the same sort of theme as "crossroads" but obviously not resembling it musically or wordwise.
