Awesome Peatle !

You and Phill have developed into poets that are the eyes of the world.
Quite enjoyable to read both of your works - masters at it for sure.

EasyBeat - thanks for stimulating everyone -    we would have missed out on some great stuff without your challenge.

What would be great is if some others joined in .

Phill
What an awesome description.
I felt like i was experiencing the things you described.
Loved how it also changed the focus as it went on. great line to finish - "an olfactory orgasm" !

I'll be using that line in the near future, I am sure.

Thanks  sharing it - very cool.

Cheers

Jim

I recorded this for EB  - bc I figured no one else would smile

Sorry about my poor singing and playing, but at least you will get the jist of what it sounds like i my head.

I quite agree with Phill except for one line

I think maybe it could be interpreted that you are the light - bringing goodness to the dark.
I can also  imagine this being someone stepping into their cabin on a lake - just to get away from the business of their everyday life and work.
Solace - even by themselves - kind of a recovery and re-energizing place.

proves that short verse can be as thought provoking as epic length writings.

Thanks for sharing Brian

Brian

That was a great song and video !  Loved that it was recorded in the public garden of NYC !   Th turtles and  the veggies fit so well with his fabulous playing and singing.
I loved at the end thet the butterfly flew away - so symbolic and in line with the lyrics.

Thanks for sharing that!

Jim

I wrote this song bc EB needs some help getting things going.

Kind of a country song - Mojo - if you have time maybe ?  smile    I could use some help I think.

anyways - here it is

When The Magnolias Bloom Again by Jim Kenyon

Capo on 4

Verse 1

[G]She might not have been everybody’s cup of [C]tea

[C] likely closer to drinkin’ Trace [G]whiskey

[G]never much on wasting her time [C]talking

[C]rather be [Am]riding on the [C]range, than [G]walking.

[Am] rather be riding on the [C]range, than [Em]walking.

Verse 2

.

[G]She had a smile that lit up stars in the western [C]sky

[C]a heart full of love, there was magic in her [G]eyes

[G]I learned how to love her , but found out she had to run [C]free

[C]a cowgirl spirit you can't [Am] tame, took a [C]while for me to [G]see

[Am]a spirit no one could [C] tame, took awhile to [Em]see

.

Chorus

[C]We all like to travel back in time to our younger [G]days

[Am]But now it’s so hard, it’s [C]such a long, long [G]way,

[C]always hoped I’d see her when the magnolias bloom [G]again

[Am]guess my memories and [C] songs will have to do ‘til [G] then

[Am]guessmemories and [C] songs will do ‘til [G] then

Verse 3

.

[G]She lived by her own rules, never made any [C]excuses

[C]always meant what she said, thought cheap talk was[G] useless

[G]the sound of her voice made me smile, never wondered [C] why

[C]just see her as I do, and you’d [Am]know why I can’t say[G] goodbye.

[Am]If you see her as I do, you’d know why I can’t say[Em] goodbye.

Chorus

[C]We all like to travel back in time to our young [G]days

[Am]But now it’s so hard, it’s [C]such a long, long [G]way,

[C]always hoped I’d see her when the magnolias bloom [G]again

[Am]guess my memories and [C] songs will have to do ‘til [G] then

[Am]guessmemories and [C] songs will do ‘til [G] then

[Am] yeah, memories and [C] songs will have to do ‘til [Em] then

Agreed, Chordie has lost many voices on the forum.

I just read the last post - I think it is spam  - the earlier posts began with beamer, had mekidsmom and CG responding - those were from 2018.

EB You are right - that was not for me.
Cant say I would spend money on that genre.

EB
Nice tidbit of a rhyme that is spot on about so much music lately.
There is a lot of great music, but a large percentage is exactly      how you describe it.

Good to see you posting.

Cheers

I recorded this as a blues song.

Apologies for singing and playing.

Perspective is everything.

Jesus was missing ( at least in the bible from 12-30 years of age) does that make him  a homeless person or a vagrant ?
Yogi's are isolated for years sometimes - same thing.

Nicely written Peatle- and again I agree with Phill - poetry need not rhyme.

You really should submit you poems to magazines of websites that that accept poetry for all to see.  No sense of keeping good stuff all to yourself! smile

CHEERS !
PROST ! ( I learned this one on my European trip  smile )

NIce one Graham

Seems there are more and more like that - not only in bars - but in schools, hospitals,
picnic areas etc... really - everywhere !

I suppose it's their way of enhancing their self image and gaining attention.

legends in their own minds I guess

as for him being a  bedroom rockstar - I would believe it verges on vicarious experiences - more fiction than non-fiction.  smile

Thanks for sharing

Well I spent a week traveling from Basel to Amsterdam and on the last night I heard a blues song that was sounded so  beautiful. I got to thinking that my Astral Dream Woman song might fit so much better into the blues. So when I got home I changed it up to this.

Let me know what you think. I'm "pretty sure" I did this in 12 bar blues style, about 80 BPM tempo.

Astral Dream Woman BLUES VERSION  by Jim Kenyon

Verse 1

.

[E]A butterfly vision with lovely soft wings [E]etched with free spirits like cosmic stars

Yeah, she[A] lived by her own rules, made no excuses [E]kept no secrets, just followed her heart

With her[B7] head filled with dreams, no boundaries, no fear

and a [A] siren's song in her heart, that only I can [E]hear

Verse 2

.

[E] A free soul filled with love and passion, [E]like a rhapsody played just right

with a [A]smile that lit up any room, like the [E] moon as an enchanted night

yeah a [B7] dreamer dancing with magical steps

She’s the[A] kind of woman you never can for[E]get

.

Verse 3

[E] all I've got are these mystical memories. to [E]keep my hopes alive

Like the [A]stars shining in the sky above, I can [E] still see her pretty eyes

with her [B7]kisses so warm, my troubles just melted away

oh ya' [A] know I miss her, every second of every [E] day

.

Verse 4

[E] this astral dream woman, the love of my life, [E]her love sparks burned my soul

In the [A] silence of the night, I still fight back [E] the tears I can’t control

But these [B7] ecstasy winds are blowing across the sea

And I [A] still hear her sweet, sweet voice that brings her back to [E] me

with her [B7] gentle kisses so warm, troubles melt away

And I[A] know I miss her, every second of every [E] day

.

outgo- slower

oh these [B7] ecstasy winds are blowing across the sea

And I [A] still hear her sweet, sweet voice that brings her back....

yeah, they bring her back,

yeah, they bring her back,

yeah, they bring back my astral dream woman to [E]me

Memory

Nice, but I already have two Gibson's, my wife would "de-man" me if I bought this. smile

Peatle,
WOW, what a fantastic piece of literature!
Tremendous insight and use of metaphor and allusions.
I think this was writing that provides cathartic release as
well as symbolism and emotional introspection.

It transcends time as you address life from youth til current day.

Just a fabulous writing that is masterful in capturing the moment and expressing
deep thoughts- soulful assessment for sure!

Well done my Kiwi friend !!

JIm

ps

As I read it for the third time, I had thoughts about a past member of Chordie that I used to enjoy very much - Strummerboy Bill

I was not satisfied at all with the original version of this song.

I revamped some of the lyrics and changed the Chords - played it  a bit more up tempo,
yet tried to retain some of the sadness the lyrics invoke.
I will try to get a version recorded, by my singing and playing don't exactly enhance the song smile
