We've just finished remodeling our kitchen and are planning a happy hour for our neighbors, who were all very helpful to us during the process. Some of these recipes will be getting use, especially that fig recipe of Jerome's!

Thanks Russell.
I'll have to get home first, but I'll try and remember to put up one of Detman101 and Jets60 in my backyard. Man, that was fun.

I'll be darned. That was completely not obvious.
Here's another one to test whether it's a fluke. My buddy Herschel at a jam session. If you have an exceptional memory, you may remember him as the object of ridicule in one of my very, very few songs, "Herschel's Campfire Song." Dave's behind him on bass. He doesn't look the type, but that guy is one heck of a metalhead bassist.
And the last member of the "quartet".

Zurf I looked at the paste and everything is where its supposed to be but Chordie dose not host anything so you cant use a link to anything on Chordie if its a photo it has to be an off site url

It is. It's hosted on a Google photo site. Just for some reason the way that site builds the URLs, Chordie nor any other forum I'm on likes it. I'll try Selso's advice, but I did put the beginning tag on. I don't why it didn't show up, but only put in a red x box where a picture belonged and didn't show the [img]characters. Go figure.
Edit: Tried again by recutting and pasting the photo link. It just isn't working. I tried using Flickr for a time and hated it. I guess I need to get a pay site like SmugMug to back up my photos.
I'll try it one last time and take the http:// out. Sometimes that chokes some programs. Not sure why, but it does.
Edit 2: Nope. That didn't work either. Tried taking out the http:// and tried putting in the www. Maybe I'll try again with both http:// and www in the address. I'm going to have to work late to make up all this time I'm wasting trying to figure this out.
Edit 3: Nope. Well, joke's on you all because it's a cute picture of a couple four year olds really belting it out from their "stage".
Edit 4: HOLD EVERYTHING!!! There's a little tiny clicky button on the side of my photo site that says "link to this picture". Hmmmm, maybe I should try the "link to this picture" clicky button when I'm trying to link to the photo. It's just crazy enough to work! Here goes nothing...
or maybe it's

My youngest daughter and nephew helping out their Uncle Mike (my brother-in-law) and I on some Christmas carols...
I'll bet it doesn't work, though... Never has before. Mekidsmom is just magic. But we knew that already because she's a mom.
Edited because I finally figured out why Russell said what he did. I cut and paste from the photo site, so I can't figure out why a Chordie address was in the URL.

Re: Movie thread (54 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I just watched Ghost Rider on TV last night. Entertaining. For those who don't know the movie, it is an adaptation of a comic book. The main character is a stunt motorcycle rider who sold his soul to protect his father, who continued to ruin his life anyway. But, because he sold his soul for another out of love rather than for his own gain, it's a glitch in the "contract."
So, basically, this stunt rider's "payment" is that he is Satan's bounty hunter. Whenever a demon or soul escapes from Hell, he has to go round it up and return it. But because he's also a "free" person because of the glitch, he can use the powers for other purposes too. It's very complicated with it's own set of rules in the bizarre way that long-running comic book series can be.
The movie was a pretty good adaptation of the comics. And yes, I read them.
Now, in the movie there was one scene where the Ghost Rider came to the aid of a young woman being mugged. The next day, the young woman gave a description of the person who assisted her to a TV reporter. "He was tall, and skinny. Bony really. His face was a skull and it was on fire." "On fire, you say. How much fire?" "It was like <chhhhhhhhhhhh> all out to here. <She put her hands about 18" away from the top of her head> It was a rad look, but it looked good on him. He totally pulled it off." I love that scene. She wasn't freaked out at all by a flaming skeleton riding a motorcycle of chromed bones and chain, just thought it was "a rad look."
I like the comic book movies. Never have seen Silver Surfer or The Punisher (either version, Dolph Lundgren or the new guy). X-men was OK, but I thought Spiderman totally nailed it. I haven't seen Spiderman 3 yet to see how they pulled off the whole evil Spiderman thing. I've seen clips and it looks COOL.
I hope they do Flash sometime, as he was always one of my favorites. He just didn't give a rip and get all caught up in the "oh dear, what a responsibility, but my desires are torn" angst garbage. He was having fun abusing the privilege of his powers in silly ways, like playing tennis with himself and seeing how many images of himself dressed in different outfits he could capture in a single shutter release.

Re: PHOTOS OF MEMBERS (179 replies, posted in Recording)
Handsome face? I think you've got me confused with another Zurf there, Russell.
I don't know if it's used elsewhere, but here in Virginia the state police are running and ad campaign on drunk driving (they're against it, just to be clear). Anyway, they've been having pictures of folks in their cars filled up with booze, the cops stop them, they "perps" roll down their window and all the beer or wine or whatever pours out. Then there's a voice over, "You can't hide it. If you drink and drive, we will find you and you'll go to jail where you'll meet Bubba and his kin." Or some such. Anyway, they've got one with a guy on a motorcycle wearing a full face helmet with beer filling it about half way. At the end of the ad, they show the guy getting his picture taken "downtown" with the voice over and threats of meeting ill-tempered and amorous hillbillies. The guy getting his picture took. I'd swear it's RUSSELL!! The funniest part (to me, because I like irony) is that Russell isn't even a drinking man! Whether or not he rides a motorcycle, I don't know.
- Zurf
p.s. I made up the part about Bubba and the amorous hillbillies. But now that I think about it, Bubba and the Amorous Hillbillies would be a great name for a band.

Re: Trigger (14 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Trigger belongs in the Smithsonian. It is a national treasure. Willie's playing and reach far exceeds Country. He's a piece of America, plain and simple. Shoot, he can't even get ON country stations anymore unless he's doing a duet with a modern country star. Somehow or other, Willie and Johnny Cash and a few other staples of country music are now considered Alt Country. Come to think of it, though, if anyone is "alt", it's Willie, so I guess there's some justice in it after all.

Re: String Gauge (5 replies, posted in Acoustic)
The lighter the string gauge, the easier to press them down but also the softer and tinnier the tone. You will generally not get good rich sound or the sweet low-end that a dreadnaught can play with ultralights.
I usually use lights. I like the sound of mediums better, but my fingers lack the strength to do hammer-ons with medium strings.

Re: Complaint. sort of (29 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Zguitar -
You're getting pretty picky about your handouts. If you've been surfing Chordie songs and other sites for hours each night looking for songs withing your skill level by artists you like and you can't find them, then you've got a couple choices left. You're going to have to get less picky about what you like, or you're going to have to go old school and get the skills to play by ear (meaning practicing basics like technique, scales, arpeggios, and inversions, and ear training for pitch recognition) or you're going to have to spend some money buying beginner arrangements of artists you like from a music store or amazon. Given the pickiness you're displaying on free chord charts, I'd recommend going to a music store to be sure the sheets satisfy you if that's what you choose. By now, there's a few generations of guitarists who've learned to play by mimicking albums. It can be done, but it takes some special skills that you'll have to learn and some real strong desire and the willingness to make a lot of mistakes and sound like crap for a while, and apparently to play "Cat Scratch Fever" for hours on end at high volume.
Please note that I'm not saying there's anything wrong with being picky. To the contrary, I think it's great that you know what you want your sound to be and don't wish to compromise. However, given that, it does limit your selection of tools somewhat. You've made a good solid effort on using free chord charts and it doesn't seem to be working out for you. Time to try some other things. Unfortunately for you, those other things are harder and take more dedication. On the flip side, you're more likely to wind up sounding the way you want to sound.

What is the open chord you play up at the fifth fret? I play that song some and use Dsus4 for the jangly bit by just adding my pinky to the standard D chord at the second fret, but I liked the sound of your version better than I like the sound of mine.

Re: Complaint. sort of (29 replies, posted in Acoustic)
If you want to sound like the records, then no songs are easy. That's the cold, hard facts. If what you are asking for are easy songs that can be played by a beginner who by definition is not skilled in technique or advanced in knowledge, and on which that beginner can sound like a seasoned recording artist with a band full of seasoned recording artists backing him up performing in a studio with a seasoned sound engineer, then you are asking for the impossible.
If you are asking for a song that the chords can be strummed and the lyrics sung in something that's recognizable, then there are many of those. These are what are usually recommended as beginner songs. They are really beginner arrangements of songs.
As Alvee33 says, one step at a time.
If you want to learn to play songs rather than learning to play guitar, go to Youtube and search on Gold Hat Studios. He has a lot of song lessons that will teach you to play arrangements of songs suitable for solo acoustic guitar players and many of them are appropriate for a beginner. You will NOT be able to go through the song lesson one time and be able to play it. The instructor does an excellent job of teaching the techniques to play that particular song, but you're going to have to pay attention and hit rewind a lot to really practice and nail down each little bit of technique. If that's how you want to learn to play, and there's nothing wrong with that, then I recommend Gold Hat Studio's on-line lessons. I use them myself and find them highly informative.

Re: What happened to Summer? (10 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Charlotte,
If you like Jim Beam, let me suggest to you to try Elijah Craig 12 year old as a day-to-day bourbon and the Elijah Craig 18 year old as a more premium brand. The flavor far exceeds the price point. As far as the difference between the 12 year and the 18 year, let me say that six years have rarely been better spent. The 12 year old is a bargain considering that I think it's on par with or better than Jim Beam Black, Jack Daniels, Makers Mark and such at almost half the price. The 18 year is up there with Woodford Reserve in taste and quality but is the same price as the aforementioned brands. Your mileage may vary. It has been determined that operating heavy machinery while getting pregnant can be harmful to your health. No bourbons were harmed in the typing of this post. Do not read this message if you are now or ever have actually enjoyed a glass of Old Crow.
