I looked on my local listings and it's something else entirely on American Masters.  I'm very disappointed.  Neil Young has long been one of my favorites.

Can't tell you.  We've been trying to get together and go fishing for a couple years but something keeps getting in the way for one or the other of us.  This'll be the first time we meet if he makes it.

- Zurf

I haven't got a video camera.   If someone else brings one, and they have permission from whoever's playing at the moment, I don't see the harm in that.  Except that then you all can see how untidy my yard and home is. We can be cautious about camera angle perhaps to avoid the worst of the mud piles.  I had planned on landscaping my back yard this year, but a tree in the front yard didn't survive the winter and changed my schedule of necessity.  I haven't got the purse nor the strength of back to do them both.

I've e-mailed directions and address to everyone who has responded.  It's looking like it should be fun.  The weather's been ridiculously, maddeningly, and annoyingly wet.  Whether the fire pit area will be anything other than a mud pit, I don't know.  Nevertheless, we're still on.  If we have to move to the living room or the family room, we'll do it.  I'll toss up a shelter in case of light rain.

Looking forward to seeing some Chordians and shaking some hands.  Jets60, Detman101, and for those who remember him from posts gone by, OldNewbie have all agreed to come.   A neighbor, a guy from church, and a couple fishing buddies are all strong maybes.   However many or few arrive, I am certain that we will find a way to enjoy ourselves.

I'll have beer, wine, soft drinks, and snackery available.

I'll try and get some pictures.  Sadly, I don't have any recording equipment.  The music will remain in the moment - ephemeral and private.

This message is to thank you for sharing your gift with us, for you are gifted.  I'm certain that many hours and years of hard effort have gone into honing that gift too.  Your generosity in sharing the results here are greatly appreciated.  I don't comment on every post you put up, but I do look at them.  There hasn't been one yet that I haven't enjoyed.

It's fairly easy to play like Bob Dylan.  He doesn't use many single notes, and he plays straight harp usually.  I'll bet with a Klutz Press book like David Harp's "Harmonica for the Musically Helpless" or a Mel Bay "You Can Teach Yourself Harmonica" or some such and a couple weeks of practice that you could imitate that style.  Neil Young frequently uses this kind of playing, though sometimes he also gets rather intricate.  Another musician who uses this method is Tom Petty.  All of them sound good to me.

Harmonica gets difficult when you start having to bend notes and play single notes.

"Whiskey from a white oak barrel sure does make good liquor.
It makes the nights seem twice as bright and the days go by much quicker."

Wild Rose of the Mountain by Si Khan

I was initially going to suggest that the dude you saved was a jerk, and that's what was causing you problems.  However, now that I see it's a kid that can't be it.  My guess is that it's at least partly physical.  You had an adrenaline surge and had to come down off that rush.

I don't know squat about misplaced guilt or other anxieties.  I suppose it could be true.  Meditate on it awhile in a quiet place and you'll probably figure that out for yourself.  Nobody should know you better than you.

Welcome to Chordie Scooter.  With a handle like that, and whose lyrics you chose to put up, there's not a lot of guesswork in your favorite style of music.

A favorite today, because I'm in a silly mood...

From Jim Croce's Roller Derby Queen,
"She was built like a 'frigerator with a head"

And another because I have to sing it so often.  From the lullaby I sing each night to my girls, which is John McCutcheon's Featherbed:
"If I was a hair ribbon, and my color it was blue, I'd be ten times as beautiful 'cause I'd be wearing you."

Thanks for the suggestion.  Suffice to say that the violin appears to have sufficient value that it's worth taking to a professional estimator to get an insurance rider.

That ought to motivate me both to play and to keep my kid's hands off of it.

OK, so I'm not sure that fiddlery is a word, but I'm considering doing it any way.

I've had a fiddle on my wall for quite a while.  I pull it down and tune it from time to time, but for many years it has been nothing but a decoration.

Two questions:
1. I'm interested in learning to play cajun style fiddle.  What's the tuning?  Is it G, D, A, E (low to high) or does it have a different tuning?

2. Is there a website where I can get value estimates of instruments?  This is a vintage old beast and I'm wondering if it has any value beyond the intrinsic.  Won't sell it one way or the other, but it may help to motivate me to find out the darn thing is worth something.

There's a great store nearby called "Picker's Paradise" that specializes in bluegrass instruments.  I'll probably take it by there to see whether there are any fiddle players hanging around that feel like chatting.

I used to have one that said "I rubberneck for rivers".  It was more a public notice than it was meant to be humorous.

It's probably not a one time occurance.

I get them.  You're fortunate that Excedrine Migraine helped you.  It works because both aspirin and caffeine, which are both in Excedrin, are vasoregulators.  Migraines have a vascular cause.  If the begin recurring, see a neurologist if you can.  It helps if you maintain a 'headache' log noting when you had it, what you had eaten recently (many foods are migraine triggers) and other environmental issues such as allergens, strong light, distracting sounds and images, pending high or low pressure zones, emotional or physical stress issues, etc.

I can tell you by the way my head feels when there's a strong low pressure front a day or two away.  Bizarre but true.

Yeah, I forgot that requirement.  Breathing would be strongly preferred.

In the case of my wife, no it wouldn't!

You're thinking of this entirely in the wrong light.  Hint: It's RUSSELL who we're hoping meets a woman ...

Praise God and thank him for Bayer.

I'm so glad that the damage seems to be slight and that you're still here for us to chat with on-line.  Now seeing this, I'm all that more disappointed that we didn't get the chance to meet up in San Diego.

One more thing: Remember 9-1-1.  Call them THEN call your wife.

mu·si·cal·i·ty

Pronunciation:
    \ˌmyü-zi-ˈka-lə-tē\

Function:
    noun

Date:
    1853

1 : sensitivity to, knowledge of, or talent for music

2 : the quality or state of being musical : melodiousness

Wouldn't it be great if there was some kind of book where you could look up words and their meanings; something you could leave on your desk and open when needed?

Still working on these.  I will use a loose interpretation of "learned".

Duncan - Paul Simon
Tequila Sunrise - Eagles
Grandmother's Feather Bed - John Denver
It's a Great Day to Be Alive - Travis Tritt
Wild Rose of the Mountain - Si Khan (converted to guitar from being a fiddle song, using an entirely different musicality, but the same melody for voice)

Is musicality a word?

I don't know if it's a favorite, but it gets the most laughs.  "Can you teach a beagle keegle exercises?"

But the evil Bm is!

I don't know why, but I have no problem nailing the quick change to barre G, A, B, etc using the E shape.

Move me over one string and the quick change to barre Bm, Cm, Dm, etc using the E shape is another story.

Go figure!

Bm isn't evil.  It's merely annoying.  Only B is truly evil.

I have a solid-body Ovation bass.  It's an Ovation Magnum third series.  It weighs about seven tons and is one absolutely humongous hunk of mahogony.  It sounds great (in the right hands).  It's a classic instrument, but mine is not in collector condition.  It's in well-played condition.  I have mostly restored it to original, except that I have not been able to find an original soapbox pickup.  I purchased a Bartolini Musicman pickup, which fits perfectly, and had it professionally installed.  The bakelite pick guard broke at a practice once, so I also replaced it.  I could have gotten an original replacement, but given that it's never going to be original condition again, I went ahead with a much sturdier tortoise shell, which looks much cooler too.
