That's a beauty. Well done on giving the insurance company a legitimate thrashing, you deserve it!
I fear I will never buy a dream guitar, 'cos I don't deserve it! Plus, I'd never ever get any work done!

Standing up! I am shocked. Never do anything standing up that you can't do sitting down. Also, never do anything sitting down that you can't do lying down.

Hi OD - thanks for the links. Am not a great Subo fan, but I thought that was great! Made me come over all emotional! My wife also came to see who was singing.
Cheers!

That's really nice. I have an 11 year old son, & I know how difficult it is to get a compliment. He did start learning guitar a few years ago, but we had to stop the lessons because he wouldn't do his practice. I keep offering to teach him myself, but he's not interested now - I wonder if hearing me play actually puts him off! Not that I'm very good, but he tends not to even try to do things that he might fail at & what I do probably sounds very difficult! If that makes any sense!
I do tend to pick up my guitar when he has friends around, though, and have heard them say nice things to him about my playing!
Oh, if I haven't said so before, welcome to Chordie!

I would like to play harmonica with my guitar - are there any good lessons or websites anyone can recommend?
Cheers!

Some open mics get a bit noisy/rowdy as the night goes on. If I am playing one of these I try to get there early & get on as soon as possible. Also because I prefer to do slower, quieter songs. It sometimes works out that I get to go on again later, in which case I do something more up tempo.
Also, open mics vary in regard to the atmosphere, mix of people, type of audience etc., so you may have to try a few to find out what suits you best.
Would like to know how you get on!
Cheers!

Congrats! Personally, I would risk the cake, although I would probably have eaten it about 11.5 months ago. I just like cake.

Have just come across a song with the chord A/B... Would this be an A with a B added? Tried this but it doesn't sound right. Can someone give me the tab?
Cheers!

Hi  - am looking for a good cheap(ish) guitar for a friend who wants to start playing. 6 string acoustic, 70 to 100 GBP. Will have a look around the local music shops, of course, but am just looking for ideas of what makes/models to look at first. Will probably try Yamaha, Tanglewood & Vintage, but there are bound to be a lot more I've never heard of. So any recommendations or tips would be great. Will also look out for secondhand, of course.
Cheers!

Sorry if this is too simple & obvious, but for the beginners out there - get an electronic tuner! I've always had trouble tuning by ear, so having an electronic tuner made a huge difference to me. Having the guitar always in tune made it much more pleasurable to play & encouraged me to practise more. I also found that I could jam along with CD's/radio/TV & hear the correst chords/key more easily.

Hi Mike, I guess you've got IT by now, and I'm sure you made the right decision. So, what did you get, & when can I borrow it?? I am joking, of course.

Thanks to all of you for the great advice & information. Have looked in a couple of local music shops, but there's not much to choose from, so it may have to be a mail order job!
There is also some good advice on a website called Ukulele Hunt (I think I got this from a Southpaw post). Strange name for a website, I thought, until I saw that there is a local band called Uke Hunt (say it out loud!!!). Oh dear.
ukulelehunt.com is the website (not the band).

I play the guitar, but fancy trying the uke. What type/make should I start with & what should I spend for a decent one? Am in the UK.

Welcome Paul1970 - where are you based? Just thought there might be some other Chordians nearby that you might be able to get together with.

I agree with riddler, but if you really want to learn songs in their entirety then have a goal in mind, such as performing them to friends, family or at an open-mic. It's a great feeling performing a whole song, or songs to an audience. If you need to have the words & chords written out in front of you, that's OK too. I never bothered learning complete songs until I started doing open-mics, now I can do at least 30 songs, though usually with a crib sheet! If you do a regular open-mic, it makes you learn new stuff too!

48, till last Wednesday, now 49 - that sounds so much worse. Just wish the internet had been around when I started playing at age of 15 - I might be a lot better now! Or not. When I was 15, my friend of thw same age could play Classical Gas (worked out by ear) - I still can't play it!
Darn you meddling youngsters for being so good!!

last rebel - what does it mean? Ask your brother!
I read an article that said "there's nothing sadder than a middle-aged man with a guitar" & I'm afraid that this does apply to me sometimes. Or I feel like it does, when I've been the worst performer by a mile at an open-mic!!
Must be a SPEE-lunker!
