Has anyone ever heard of this band or this song?

I am trying to get the tabs for this little snippet of the song in the title.

Thanks,

I've been playing (Seriously) for a little over a year now.
I don't do well with timing or barre chords just yet. I play in Drop-D mostly for rock, but I'm learning
how to play along with my church band. I'm not that good (in my own opinion) but others tell me that I'm doing well for someone who is self-taught.

If I could just get my timing right I'd be loads better.

Great story LR.

Here's a quick one.  I was about 17 and playing upright bass in a playhouse orchestra.  This particular playhouse was so far off Broadway that it was in a different state.  The orchestra pit wasn't a pit, it was a loft.  The playhouse itself was a converted barn.  To get to the loft, one had to walk in front of the seating, across the stage, and up a staircase in the Stage Right wing.  Well, our bandleader was also the piano player, and the particular musical we were doing had a lot of honky tonk style piano in it.  He was a little slip of a thing.  Probably about 5'3" and not much more than 110# would be my guess.  And he had purple eyes.  Very unusual.

Well, come Saturday's second performance, he was late in coming.  He took a nap between the matinee and the evening performance and he overslept.  Actors had already taken to the stage, so he couldn't get to the loft across the stage.  "The show must go on", you know.  The introductory dialogue was just about done and the first number about to start.  The show took place in a living room setting, with a couch in the center of the stage.  The prop master had borrowed the couch from someone who had a LOT of cats.  The lead was drastically allergic to cats and his voice kept getting more and more raw all week.  We played the opening number in a different key each night trying to accomodate this poor fellows allergies.  Well, we didn't know what key that number was supposed to be in and the bandleader wasn't there.  Just then, he came running up the aisle behind the Stage Right seat stands - full tilt!  Without slowing a lick, he jumped like he was trying to block a Michael Jordan lay-up, grabbed the floor of the loft, pulled with his hands, and fluid as if he had done it a thousand times in practice he just shot through the rails, rolled up on the floor, popped up behind his piano, shouted "G!" and we played that song starting right on time and without a hitch in the key of "G".   I don't think I've ever seen a better athlete than that purple-eyed piano player.

AHahhaahahahahah!!! That was HILARIOUS!!!

I've often wondered how much tragedy my life has to get in order to play the blues competently.
I mean..I still have a job I love, a great wife and kid, a great life and a kewl car.

Does that mean I'm too privileged to play the blues?

Ah well, guess I'll just stick to playing ROCK!

Why does everyone think that Fender and Gibson are the only decent guitar companies out there!?

The only reason that I can think of is that the media and advertising has brainwashed people.

First, let me say that I think Fender and Gibson do make several great guitars, but I do not think that they should be the only brands that one considers when looking for a decent electric guitar. Personal preference is everything! I would never consider buying a Gibson because they are over-priced. A les paul standard costs $2,000 bucks!! This is madness!!

I agree wholeheartedly.
These companies think that they have everyone by the short-hairs and they don't seem to understand that other companies can emulate their production processes down to the smallest factor and produce a guitar of the same quality for much cheaper.

Companies like Rondomusic.com produce basically the same guitar that Fender, PRS and Gibson do, but without the cost of the big-time name! I'm never going mainstream again now that I know better!

Take a look at this video of Wes Borland (Formerly of Limp Bizkit fame) using his loop pedal to play a complete song.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OV4cqwuNGjo

It shows the amazing possibilities and usage of loop pedals to emulate the entire orchestral section of a band.

Argh...50 watts.
Is that the standard?
I may just get a good 30w and continue to mic the amp like I'm doing now with my crappy 14w amp.

At this point, I don't even know what to do about an amp. I think I'm going to buy one from a  pawn shop that is 30w+ and see how I like it. Preferably one with some effects.

I'm going to cut my teeth on a line6 spider-3 if I can find one. If not I'll just get a regular amp without effects that is louder than the 14w garbage kiddie amp that I have.

I would like to know just how the fender blues junior is as loud as a more powerful amp when it is only 14 watts...

(confused)

I played on a KUSTOM hybrid amp and wow was it awesome. All the warm fuzzies that a tube amp gives and the wonderful combination of effects without a bajillion foot pedals.

It was truly, the greatest sounding experience that I've had at the guitar store.

Oh My Gosh.....

I tried a Tube Amp this saturday night when I took my godson to the guitar store in town.
My guitar sounds sooooooo much warmer on a tube amp with a 10in speaker.
I tried "Kustom" amps and "Orange" amps and wow....the sound is soooo much better!
It really is a lot warmer and softer than using an electronic amp.
But the drawback is that you don't get those awesome effects like with the Line-6 amps.

Kustom has a tube amp with electronic effects built into it too, but it costs 500 dollars and weighs more than I'm willing to carry.

I guess it would depend on how aggressive your drum player is...if you are working with a sound system then have you thought about enclosing the drums and then mike them? Build sort of a "cubicle" out of pexiglass or similar material just a bit taller than the drum set...then he can freely play without drowning everyone else out...

That has already been done. Sadly though, I sit behind wall of the plexi that surrounds the drums.
I run the mixing board and play guitar along with that when I'm not being flagged down by 8 different people to adjust the audio to how they each want it. (rolleyes)

I just want to make sure that this amp will be loud enough to broadcast out to the entire floor from the corner where I manage the audio and play guitar.

I wish I could draw an example of the arrangement of the church...I'll try.

Thanks,

Are you able to mike your amp and mix it with the overall sound?

Well, I guess I could do that for the meantime while I wait on the funds for the new amp.
That may actually be the easier route to take.

Well, people love a show.
And as long as you can dazzle them with what they are seeing, they will usually not pay attention to what is really going on.
A good example for this is the American Media. They show you what they want you to see so that you don't ask questions about what is really going on.

I'm not calling Jimi a liar or a fake....but he was good at what he did and he did set new boundaries in the music world.

MWAHAHAHA!!!! I do that too!!!

But I fiddle with the tone and volume knobs on my guitar instead.

D to Dsus to D2 is so easy...and yet so fun...and even better....

For everyone, but more for Zurf, I DON'T KNOW IF IT IS HARMLESS BUT THIS IS MY FAVOURITE AMP. I have 2 microphones, and somewhere I read, where you have to put these mics, and I don't find it back. Can it be 1 pointed at the bridge and the other pointed in the direction of the 12th fret?
I, owning too many guitars, followed the "ancient" way. In the sixties, there were almost no electro-acoustic guitars, and due to a video clip, with Bob Dylan, and DONOVAN, I made my decision, and it works fine. Since I live here alone, my ex comes now and than, she helps me a lot, and we are good friends (divorce in 1995) but she can be so helpful that I don't find some things back, because I don't find my second mic. I've tried it, and it is a precision work to place those things correct.
About amps, I will look on eBay.

Hmmm....sounds like it's time to watch your ex more closely when she comes to visit.
Or have her stop moving your stuff.

Southpaw and Detman, thanks for everything, but to answer your question Detman, I looked a few hours and trying to use your budget, you will find only amps, mend to practise. But 30W, yes that can be OK, they will hear you quit good, if I should know this: HOW MANY NOISE IS PRODUCED BY A DRUMMER, playing like he always play. The comments I saw described 30W can be enough to be heard, but JESUS, if the drummer plays like the late JOHN "BONZO" BONHAM (Led Zeppelin) I think you need 200W smile

Ah ha...Well, I will add another $100 to the budget and have $200 to work with.
IF I can find the 75W version of the Line6 - Spider III amplifier for that much I will buy that one.
If not, I will settle on the 30W and just put a microphone in front of it and run the sound through the house speakers.

The little ibanez 10w practise amp that I'm playing with just sounds horrible turned all the way up. The louder you make the amp, the worse that the speaker sounds. I bought it used and I think that there is something wrong with the speaker cone. But what can you expect from a 10w amp with a 5 inch speaker in it....hahahahaha.
It's great for practicing at home, but it can't do much more than that.

Oh yeah, Phil...I have three drummers in my church. Depending on who is playing, I adjust the volume of my amplifier to compensate.
The first drummer is my godson who is 11 and doesn't get too loud on the drums. I can be heard just fine playing with him.
The second drummer is the Keyboardist. When he plays I have to turn the amp up to 9 to be heard (9 out of 10).
The third drummer is the pro of the church. When he is playing it is like explosions are going off. He is VERY strong and VERY loud on the drums. (There have been times when I have had to put on my headphones/monitors just to block the sound because it hurts my ears.)  When he is playing I can turn the little 10W amp all the way up to 10 and I just can't be heard. He even drowns out the keyboard speakers and the keyboardist has to route the sounds through the house speakers to be heard.
