Hey Upyerkilt,

I was hoping you might give us a link to the clarinet, here in the US we've all heard about the Susan Boyle lady and her story, but I'd like to see the guy with the clarinet, and would this be the finals? The Susan Boyles/ Clarinet guy?

Hi Everyone,

I just found this new site, some of you may know it already, some may not. That last couple of days I've been going to it, it's been a big help to me so I thought it might help others that are learning. He has acoustic and electric songs, he's really good and breaks it down in simple terms, plus he makes it fun, so again I thought it might help others as it's helped me. Here's the link    http://www.guitarjamz.com/

    Cam

or try this one, the first link is different than what I've been looking at, so heres another section on youtube you can click  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVMQQZfxnKs
Then go to his page, he has over 195 videos I think it was,  and they're all free. the first link I gave I think you have to pay, but from what I've seen it might be worth it,enjoy!

Happy Birthday Topdown, and good for you on your decision, however, I do feel compelled to point out you turning 45 was the least requirement "officially" to be an old geezer. I've got a question for you now Top, since changing jobs, does this mean you'll be around more, as I remember, you once said you were gone during the week, still would love to meet sometime and again "Happy Birthday"

Hi Selso,

I'm sorry to hear about your misfortune, Life is full of up's and downs, and you'll get back up one way or another, good luck to you and your wife. My wife is a Paralegal here in NC, laws vary from state to state, so what works here might not hold true there, or I'd ask her what she thinks could be done if anything, again good luck and you hang in there "good things happen to good people" and I'm sure your're a good person!

Harming a child is, in my mind the worst of crimes. Sadly the families are the first suspects and have to be eliminated as such, I understand that, but when they are innocent and then have to endure that with the loss of thier child it has to be unbearable, God bless them.

Hey Jets60,

John Prine is one of my all time favorites, I haven't seen him in years, but back in the day, I saw him several times, I think I first saw him in Galax Virginia at an outdoor event called "Stompin 76" that was in 1976, thats why I can always remember it, he was fantastic live, by himself to begin with, then later I think it was David Bloomberg and Bonnie Raitt came out and played a while with him. "Hello in There is one of his all time greats, I love how he can make a song out of the most simple things, and has a way of describing things that we can all relate to, I would call him, and I hate to rate things", but I'd call hi8m at least my 3rd favorite songwriter of all time, only behind Bob Dylan, Jackson Browne, then John Prine, and thouigh many may not know him, but I'd also though a guy by the name of Charlie Gearheart from Goose Creek Symphony in there.

Since were on the barre chords, does anyone have a link to a site that clearly shows all barre chords, I think that would be a big help to everyone "including myself" who are still learning barre chords.

     Cam

Nela,

This is something I've been interested in knowing, The "as you say open G tabs as well as all the other open chords, do you mean all the notes that can be played off the open G tabs  as well as the other chords? Or are you just meaning the strings that are played to get the G chord itself, If you mean all the notes off of the open G I'm assuming that you mean more strings than just the strings held to get the open G , is there a chart somewhere that shows all the notes   for the G chord as well as all the other open major chords, and posibbly the minor chords, thanks for any help with this and I hope I'm making sense in what I'm asking, if not let me know and I'll try to explain what I'm asking in a clearer way, thanks again for any help.

Maybe part of the reason it takes today's artist's so much longer to do an album is a few things.

A:  In the 60's and 70's, even 80's everything was new.  New style of music, instruments and recording techniques.  So everyone felt that they were bringing something new to the table and didn't have to do something new, it all was!
B:  There's too much technology now.  Artist's use the studio more than ever.  And the editing after the actual recording probably takes longer than the recording itself.
C:  Everything's been done, so they're all trying to bring a new "sound" to the table.

You know what stikes me as odd about today's artist's and how they get a recording deal is this.  Back in the good ole days, a band or artist had to play live to get their chops and pay their dues before they were even considered for a recording deal.  So when they got to the studio they were seasoned and good musicians.  Maybe this is D:  they actually were musicians and artist's then, so it could go faster.  Today the record execs just pick a pretty face or sellable feature and stick them in a studio with a writer, engineer, singing coach, producer and pump out a record.  Not saying that there are no talented artist's now but you have to admit there is some pretty questionable artist's out there in all genres of music.

Just my two cents worth.

Cheers
Heather

I completely agree with you ravenlady, I touched on this in another thread, I would only add that songwriters, musicians, singers just simply aren't as all around talented now as they use to be, no one Bands, singers, just aren't doing their own stuff much anymore"yes, there are exceptions", but I think the talent over all is certainly on a downhill slide, just my opinion

Thanks Buvvy,

It's nice to know you agree with me, the list of bands and singers from that era are to long to list "Hey Topdown" Did you read this"?

Well, I know now I'm am truly an old geezer, I was walking down the road when a funeral proession paused to see if I needed a lift, and if that wasn't bad enough the local fire department called to see if on my next birthday they could attend in case all the candles got out of hand. Later in the day the Smithsonian called to request my participation in an exhibit on the evolution of man.I've noticed Tighting my belt has become uncomfortable under my arm pits, anyone else having these problems?

Topdown, I appreciate you taking it easy on me, and yes, I guess my geezer is showing just a bit, my wife and I got a big laugh out of that. I really expected to take a beating on my opinion, and most likely still will, but when I think of Clapton, The stones, Led Zepplin, Joe Cocker, Skynard, Neil Young, I mean who makes music like that anymore, so again, I guess your right, my geezer may be showing, maybe you and I could start a band, we could call ourselves the "Dark Dress Socked White Sneaker Geezers" what do you think? oh..that would have to be orthopedic sneakers..ok?

     Cam

I think some of the old classic rock tunes they sell to use in commercials are because some of them just need a payday, no one listens to rock anymore, it's all changed, unfortunatly, although I'm sure there are exceptions, ever notic you've never heard a Neil Young song in one, I once read he'd never allow one of his songs to be used to promote any product, I hope he continues that.

Ok, I may get blasted for this, but here goes. Remember the Neil Young song where he sings "rock and roll will never die" well it did. I think it's time has passed, it still lives in my heart as well as many others hearts I'm sure, but no one makes rock and roll anymore, the Beatles, Zepplin, the Stones, there are no bands like that anymore, it's all morphed into something else. Rock and roll came alive early, in the 50's got much better in the 60's peaked in the 70's and been dying a slow death ever since, I miss real rock and roll, what kids call rock and roll now makes me cringe inside. Hardly no one writes their own music plays their instrument and sings their own material anymore, the talent is vanishing IMO...I'm sure there are exceptions to this, and people when undoubtly mention serveral I'm sure, but it's not rock and roll to me...ok let the bashing begin
