Hey Kap ,
Glad that you dodged that bullet ...
In my younger days , I thought nothing of closing a bar and hopping in my truck and driving home ... Somebody up there had to be looking out for me and everyone else on the road all those times , since I never had a DUI or hurt anyone ... I should have been locked up and had the key thrown away ... Now we still like our beer , but many years ago , my wife and I decided that if we go to a party or any kind of get together , and we have to drive home , we decide in advance who gets to have a beer or two and then the other does'nt ... That has worked out very well for us ...

Hey Pix ,
Since you mentioned it , this Maya does look just like the Martin auditorium size guitars ... If you were'nt close enough to read the headstock logo , you'd think it was a Martin ...
About the pics , if I ever figure out how to post them , you'll see pics of all nine of my guitars and all eight fiddles , L O L ...

Hi All ,
Wife and I bought an older motor home this last spring to use when my band plays out of town or at local parties ( so we don't have to drive after we've had a few ) , and we've really enjoyed it ... Thinking about buying a newer one next spring and seeing some of this country ( wife has'nt seen much ) ... She says that she'd like to see out west and maybe as far south as Nashville , and just wondering if we could get in touch with some other Chordies ... Maybe do some playing and have a few ... At least two of my guitars would be coming along and my sound system ... Seems like great fun ... I'm not all that good , but we have great fun with it ...
Let me know .....

Old Doll ,
Are you trying to kill me ?? I had just taken a drink of my coffee when I read that he actually did it , and even though I knew , I knew , I knew , that he was gonna do it , I almost drowned ... If you can picture me running out of my office and stumbling around my shop with coffee coming out of my nose ....... Well , you get the picture .... Actually sounds like something that I might have done , L O L ..........
Thanks , that was priceless ........

Sorry Badeye ,
What I meant to ask was what style was it , ie concert , jumbo or dreadnaught ... Mine are concert or what some folks call mini-jumbos ... My little brother had a Guild D-4 which is a dread and I really liked the sound of that thing ... I should have bought it when he sold it , except that the guy who bought it offered him 350.00 more than he paid for it , L O L ...

Has anyone heard of these ?? I was playing a party up by Devils Lake , ND solo about a month and a half ago , and this gal that was there said she had a guitar that she wanted to sell ... It was a Maya ( Japanese made ) accoustic that she had bought new in the seventies in an excellent quality hard shell case ... It was in very nice shape , but I did'nt really need the guitar , although it was a concert size which has always been my choice in accoustics ... I made her an offer of forty bucks thinking I would use the case for one of my " good " guitars ... Well we settled on fifty and I brought it home ... After a couple adjustments and tuning , that thing plays and sounds like a million bucks ... Definately worth a lot more than I paid for it ... Just goes to show I guess ...

Hey Badeye ,
   I've got three Guilds , a '99 F-65 , a '97 F-30 , and a '65 F-30 ... I play them all , but prefer the F-30s ... The '65 F-30 is one of my guitars that I don't take out , so it does'nt get played a lot ... BTW , what model was the one you played ??

Happy B-day Badeye !!
Bet you all had a great time at the jam party ... That's the stuff memories are made of ... Wish I could of been there ...

Hi All ,
Interesting thread Zurf , and you're right about the " if not one thing then another " ...
We bought our forth and final house three yrs ago , and last year about this time we paid it off and then started putting the payment money aside for some not needed , but wanted improvements ... Well , we decided it was time , so we put in new concrete driveway , patio , outdoor hot tub with a small deck , privacy fencing , wood railing around the patio , and landscaping ... Well halfway through the concrete work , our water heater crapped out , so had to stop and replace that , then the furnass went , so replaced that with a new 95 plus , ( something that we kinda figured on doing anyway ) , luckily we had put aside more than enough so it did'nt hold up the stuff that we wanted to do , but it's always something ... Anyway we got it all done and now just waiting for a couple nice days so that we can get all the wood stained before the weather turns for good ... Gotta say though , there's nothing like sitting in that hot tub when it's forty degrees out with the steam so thick my wife and I can't see each other across the tub ... We were in there one night and it was snowing so we were both sitting there with snow on our heads , L O L ... We disovered that the only problem with being in there in cold weather is " who's turn is it to get out and run to the shop fridge and get more beer ", L O L ....
Anyway , hope the rest of your project works out and you don't overdo it and get a cold any worse than it is , remember , at our age , you don't recover from that stuff like when you were younger ...

Great thread Pix ,
We've always had shepards and each one had to be put down for illness at about ten yrs old ...
When my wife and I decided to get another , she came home one day with an eight week old cocker spaniel cross that had been dumped off out in the country ... Needless to say , he's been with us ever since , and at first , when ever we went somewhere and stopped at a roadside rest , he would start shaking and not want to get out of the car , the poor thing ... We always wondered why he never chewed anything or barked , untill we put the electric blankets back on our bed that first fall that he was with us and they did'nt work ... When I looked at the cords , the one from the wall was chewed almost all the way through , that explained that , L O L ... His name's Charley and he'll be fifteen next June ... When he was a puppy , my wife would vacuum him when she had the thing out for cleaning , and to this day if he sees any vacuum cleaner , he's right there wanting to be vacuumed ... We also have a toy poodle ( Edie ) the same age and she runs around and jumps like a puppy ... We keep wondering when she's gonna start slowing down ... They've both been wonderfull pets , but we know Charley is'nt gonna go much longer ... He's got cataracts and has all but lost his hearing , but as long as he's still happy , he'll be with us ...I'll never forget when I first started with the fiddle about twelve yrs ago , when I'd get it out in the family room downstairs , Charley and Edie would discreetly sneak upstairs and I never blamed them for that ... It did wonders for my confidence when it got to the point where they would stay where they were and seem to actually listen ,
L O L ..........

Hi All ,
Personally , I have no problem sharing my secrets ,
L O L ... As if anyone would want to steal my sound ...
I don't play out that much , maybe once or twice a month during the summer months ...
I run my korean made 335 copy into the pedal tuner then to a chorus pedal and from there directly into the powered mixer ... My A/E Guild flat top is run to a stand alone preamp and then tee connected into the tuner with the 335 ... When I play fiddle , then that is hooked up in place of the flat top so I have the preamp , the tuner and the chorus right in line ...
Simple , and I don't have to load an amp also ...

Hey Siggi ,
I know exactly where you're coming from ... A lot of the songs I've written do that to me ... In fact one song that I wrote basically for my family after my mother passed away was really tough ... When I was writing it , I kept dripping tears on the paper ... I've found that when I'm learning a new song like that , whether my own , or a cover , I have to practice it over and over untill I can get through it , and then practice some more untill it gets to the point where I'm hardened to it to a certain extent ... It helps when you get to the point where you can sing the lyrics without having to think too much about what you're singing , L O L ...I've found that I can then do it in public with emotion , but not too much ... That works for me ... Some of them are a bugger ...

Hi ,
I've always been a Guild fan ... I now have three in my small collection ... A '65 F-30 , a '97 F-30 and a '99 F-65ce ... Paid a lot of money for the F-65 and after playing it for a few months , I was never happy with the tone so it does'nt get played much ... Now days when I play out I use the '97 F-30 that I installed a fishman under saddle pickup in for the accoustic stuff and my korean made 335 copy ... Those two guitars do pretty much anything I need ....

Wow Zurf ,
You are so right ... I could'nt "belt out" a tune if my life depended on it ... Maybe that's why my music partner and I work out so well together , he does the belting out kind of stuff and I do the rest ... I sing backup for him and he sings backup for me and people tell us that it works really well ... A little aggravating when we're setting up PA though and his mic channel is set on three and mine is always set on eleven , L O L ....

Hey Badeye ,
If I'm playing alone and pick up one of my guitars , if it's in tune relative to itself , then I just play it ... If playing with others then I check tuning and most of the time just minor tweaking unless there has been a lot of temp or humidity change , then they can be a full tone sharp or flat ....

Boy , sure sounds like fun ...
And I'm sure these good folks are coming to see you , not your yard , L O L ...
Hey , how is Oldnewbie anyway ?? Have'nt heard anything from him on here for ages ....

Hi Krystab ,
I started playing guitar with a Stella that was old when I got it when I was ten years old ... Could'nt afford anything better at the time so I learned on that guitar ... Let me tell you , it was evil to play , seemed like the intonation was never right no matter what I did with the floating bridge and it had action that you could drive a truck through , but I know that when I finally upgraded to something better , playing that old thing for so long made me a better player and now , forty five years later I still think of what I went through learning on that thing .... Sure made my next guitar more fun to continue the journey ....

Hey Zurf ,
Welcome to " fiddlery " ? Good luck and I
hope you enjoy the fiddle as much as I do ...
As to the value , as aabb said , look for a label inside one of the f-holes or as stated , I have also seen them signed on the underside of the sound board ... Very few makers did'nt have enough pride in their work to at least sign it ... That said , in my experience with violins , most times an old violin is just that and not worth much unless made by a recognized maker ... The eldist in my collection is almost 150 years old and does'nt carry much value due to being made by an obscure maker ... To me though that one has a tonal quality that my others lack ...Anyway whether it be worth good money or not , treat it with respect and enjoy it for what it is , you'll have a lot of fun with it ...

Hi All ,
Hey tandm3 , whenever someone at our jams uses my Pro Mag , I always take the cord , pull it straight down between the treble and bass bout and then loop it around and back out above the strap button on the lower bout ... That's what I do with my electrics also ... That way if I happen to step on the cord , it can't pull out or damage the jack ...
