I agree with Russ - Your vocals are great on their own..I would go light on the reverb if you use it at all. Really enjoyed the instrumentation.

Thanks Phil - Sad but true. The super saver etc was just my way of saying Wal-Mart. I think you might have them in the UK (Asda is owned/operated by Wal-Mart), but I guess Tesco or Sainsbury might be the equivalent, but of the "super store" variety.

Instead of sending scratches to those who ask, I'm now posting them on my soundcloud page so long as they don't sound too scratchy....This one didn't (at least to me). Let me know what you think
You can find it here: https://soundcloud.com/jets60/thats-wha … ut-scratch

Just a contemplative song about how you turn your head a minute and something else you grew up with is no more....could have called the song Shake My Head but I think this title is a little more top dead center.

That’s What Life’s About By Jeff Gilpin

July 30, 2013

Intro

[G] / / / / [D]

[G]I went down just the other day to the grocery store

Just the same way my father and his [G7]father did before

[C]But I found when I went down the store all locked and chained

[G]Lights turned off windows boarded hand painted sign on the door

That [D]said closed and out of business so [C]if you want to shop

Head down to the [G]super saver shopping center mega emporium that’s [D]just down the [G]block [G7]

[Em]God I do love progress and all the new inventions

And [C]all the stuff I never knew I needed but now can’t live without

Un[Em]fortunately with every change and the best of intentions

You [D]got to give up the old stuff and [C]that’s what life’s about [G] / / / / [D]

[G]Driving up the road a ways I used to pass thisfarm

Where I’d always see this farmer waveI’d [G7]answer with my arm

[C]But now the farm has gone away been filled in with houses

And [G]signs saying stop on by and check us out there are only a few units left

And [D]off around the side I could [C]still see that old barn

Not part of the [G] Dominion Valley gated community sub-division home owners' associ[D]ation or a [G]farm[G7]

[Em]God I do love progress and all the new inventions

And [C]all the stuff I never knew I needed but now can’t live without

Un[Em]fortunately with every change and the best of intentions

You [D]got to give up the old stuff and [C]that’s what life’s about [G] / / / / [D]

If [G]I could predict the future I guess there’s one sure bet

All that stuff you like today well [G7]you can just forget

It [C]doesn’t matter what you like if it gets in the way of progress

[G]New ways are coming so best just to bend over ‘cause here they come

[D]I’m sure before too long we'll all be [C]happy with the rearranging

But un[G]til that time I’ll grit my teeth hold it in and [D]suffer through the [G]changing [G7]

[Em]God I do love progress and all the new inventions

And [C]all the stuff I never knew I needed but now can’t live without

Un[Em]fortunately with every change and the best of intentions

You [D]got to give up the old stuff and [C]that’s what life’s about [C] [G]

Well earned - I think both your songs and performance of them are worthy winning a competition or two. More people should hear you live to really appreciate your music in my opinion.

Hey Zen - Here's a link that shows you everything you ever wanted to know about chordpro...or at least everything I ever wanted to know. Hope it helps.

Thanks Dino. I'll settle for your like.

Hey Zen - You might have better luck in the music theory forum than songwriting. I looked around and some songs call that chord a C/B (used in a Jewel song called Down so Long I found on ultimate-guitar), but I think a C/B is more like 022010. You just might find some purest who'll tell you it is not a chord at all, but I say if it works for you I say go with it. Anyway, that's all I could find but hopefully someone else will be able to help you.

For some strange reason summer has taken a break in the northern Virginia area. Made me remember my summer times as a kid when I would climb up a tree and enjoy the view, breeze and maybe even an apple if I picked the right tree. While I have not climbed a tree in many years I still appreciate the idea of it so here it is in a song.

Sitting in a Tree By Jeff Gilpin

July 26, 2013

[D]Look at me sitting in a tree

Just about as happy as [A]I can [D]be

[D]Enjoying myself a cool little breeze

And the [Em]birds as they sing

And the [A]buzzing of the bees

In the [D]tree

[G]Now the bees they don’t bother me none

We have a truce and I’ll [D]tell you [G]son

[G]They’re too busy trying to get stuff done

To bother with the likes of [A]me [A7]

So [D]I’m content just sitting in the tree

I’ve got no worries to [A]bother [D]me

[D]Sitting up here just as happy as you please

While the [Em]birds sing a song

And the [A]bees buzz along

In the [D]tree

Be[G]fore too long I have to get down

But there’s so much trouble down [D]there on the [G]ground

[G]While I stay up here I can’t be found

And trouble can’t find [A]me [A7]

So [D]here I be sitting in a tree

Watching the world go [A]on around [D]me

[D]Not one soul looking up to see me

While I’m [Em]sitting up above

Like a [A]sparrow or a dove

In the [D]tree

[G]So much better than being on the ground

Where I’m sure I’d be [D]easily [G]found

[G]And we all know what rolls on down

Wouldn’t want it rolling down on [A]me [A7]

[D]So I’ll keep on sitting in a tree

Just about as happy as [A]I can [D]be

[D]Enjoying myself a nice cool breeze

And the [Em]birds as they sing

And the [A]buzzing of the bees

In the [D]tree

Yeah - just took a long while (well over a minute) to post something - just plain text. Should not have taken near that long.

Anybody else have this problem? -  You're doing some work on your home office computer but want to stop, take a break, and play your guitar for a bit of a musical stress reduction. Then as you're get your guitar ready to play you bang it against one of your chair's arms. I HATE it when that happens and I bet you all do too.

Hey, I enjoy having arms on my chairs most of the time, but I sometimes wish I could just make them disappear. That is usually about the time I feel like playing a tune or three. I did buy a chair a while back that came without arms solely for this purpose, but unfortunately the chair was very uncomfortable so my arm chair returned.

So my fellow Chordie-ans, what do you think is the best chair out there that works as both an office chair but also a good guitarist chair?

Finding those with a GPS requires a special feature.

Zurf, I think we need to work together and invent this special feature and we can call it the "G.P.S.S.C.Y.L.F." or The GPS Scantily Claded Young Lady Finder.

I'm thinking that once we get a prototype made we'll start raking in the mulah! cha-CHING!   smile

I have not seen the Nook HD (although I have a Nook Color), but my wife has a Kindle Fire. It has great graphics and is not too small (about 7 inch 5 inch) to use for using for lyrics with tabs & chords. I'm not sure what app you would want to use but I suppose you could check with Amazon website and see what they offer ...Amazon usually has a pretty honest collection of customer reviews for all the products they sell, so if one of their apps sucks the customers will say so without pulling punches. I just looked and and saw a few of the app and the costs range from $.99 to $5.99 for guitar tabs and chords products.

I'll need to hear your rendition to fully understand how to play your song, but I think the lyrics are very thought provoking. Your chord progression sounded great to me as well, but I still want to hear how it all fits together. Great first song Zen! I'll be looking forward to hearing it.

In the Midnight by Langhorne Slim's a pretty good one...very fast and happy and loud. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3vB0aA5Cj8

I'll send you what I have.

Here is a link to the picture of Zurf.....I mean Ian...Twin brothers from different mothers is my vote.  smile

On Facebook today I causally glanced at the new postings and I thought I saw a new picture of Zurph up...Nope. On second glance I discovered it was Wolf Trap, which is a local DC venue, advertizing Ian Anderson's performance tonight. I wish I was going because I really do enjoy Jethro Tull songs but I am not. Zurph, are you going? I would venture to guess that you and Mr. Anderson could take a great picture.
