Thanks Still_Larva and Pete - Good luck with you F chord, Still. All the bar chords give me trouble but they come with practice...and I still have to practice.

Pete - You know I am a sucker for story songs too. Using my dad and one of his very best friends as inspiration helped me to tell their story right.

It's on guitaretab.com - http://www.guitaretab.com/t/the-blind-b … 95603.html

This song is about how my wife has a profound impact on me and my moods. There's no telling what I would turn into if she wasn't around to turn my bad days into a  perfect ones.

When I’m With You By Jeff Gilpin

June 7, 2013

I [D]never have to [Db]wind my [D]watch

I can [D]stay at home and [Db]still go on a [D]walk

[Em]See the sights from a[G]round the world [Em]while

I [G]never leave my cozy domi[A]cile

[D]I admit it that [Db]I can’t [D]stand

A [D]clock or watch with[Db]out a second [D]hand

Or a [Em]letter I re[G]ceive on my [Em]phone

I [G]think about these things when I’m a[A]lone

But [G]when I’m with you

[D]Nothing bothers me

[G]Minor irritants

[A]All seem to [A7]flee

[G]I forget all

The [D]stuff that I have to [G]do

[A]When I’m with [D]you [Db] [D]

I [D]sometimes find my[Db]self in a foul [D]mood

[D]Silent outside [Db]inside thoughts are [D]stewed

[Em]Throwing excre[G]ment at those who’ve [Em]angered

[G]Just thoughts though no one’s en[A]dangered

[D]All the injustice [Db]throughout the [D]land

[D]All the idiotic [Db]things that I can’t [D]stand

[Em]Drives me straight to [G]all get [Em]out

While [G]no one hears even though I [A]shout

But [G]when I’m with you

[D]Nothing bothers me

[G]Minor irritants

[A]All seem to [A7]flee

[G]I forget all

The [D]stuff that I have to [G]do

[A]When I’m with [D]you [Db] [D]

I [D]know sometimes you [Db]think I’m [D]needy

[D]Too affection[Db]ate and too [D]greedy

[Em]That’s the effect you [G]have on [Em]me

[G]Like a blind man that [A]now can see

[D]You’re a bright [Db]light that I must [D]follow

You [D]speak the truth and [Db]I’m your a[D]postle

[Em]And I’d be worthless I [G]know it’s [Em]true

If [G]God forbid I'm [A]too long without you

Because [G]when I’m with you

[D]Nothing bothers me

[G]Minor irritants

[A]All seem to [A7]flee

[G]I forget all

The [D]stuff that I have to [G]do

[A]When I’m with [D]you [Db] [D]

G C D ....didn't hear any other chords. Like this: G.... C.... G.... C.. D.. G......bridge is C................ G........ C................ G........ D..... Fit these with the lyrics and you should be fine.

Hey Paul - I have the time and don't mind doing it for you....Email coming.

If your mood is mean and nasty you should crawl back into bed.
Keep you mean and nasty mood all to yourself or in your head.
While your head is on your pillow having mean and nasty dreamin'.
I am hoping you resolve your mood before you start a screamin'.

Very Cool - I would not doubt that you cranked up the civil war historical interest level on most if not all of the students, and I am sure they were attentive and entertained by your music. I'd love to hear those tunes myself.

I kind of like the the bass line from Golden Earring's Radar Love...Twilight Zone is pretty good too.

I decided not to comment on some earlier nit-pic-ing posts. Chordie is my favorite web site on the web and here are the top 5 reasons why that I could think off the top of my head:

1 - I am able to find the lyrics and chords of almost all of my favorite guitar songs.

2 - I often discover some great new songs and new (to me) artists, some of which are chordie members.

3 - I am able to improve my guitar skills from the practice of songs I grew up listening to and found here, the interesting thought provoking observations, ideas and advice by other chordie guitar enthusiasts, and the tremendous support that is freely given by the majority of chordie members.

4 - The opportunity to get together with other chordie members (both online and in person), share music, friendship and great times.

5 - The ability to give back to a website that has given me so much.

Hey Beamer -Do you think any of the apps out today are better than an actual live instructor? I'm skeptical and think it is pretty tough to recreate or automate the direct feed back that you can get from an actual guitarist who is able to watch and critiques technique.

I grew up in western NC with Texas parents. Locally we had a heavy influence of county (like Hank Sr.), which was intermixed with pop, rock, and R&B and whatever else was playing on the radio. My dad was a big Texas swing fan (liked Bob Wills music) and also liked dixieland jazz while my mom was a big Burt Bacharach & Hal David fan. I always remember music playing at my house of one type or another. I guess that's why I'm open to most all types of music so long as it is good.

I just got an email from the moderator of http://www.Mamalisa.com (Lisa Yannucci) and she posted my folk lullaby, Ayase Lullaby, on her blog. This is a great site if you are looking for international music or are interested in other cultures. All free of course with a ton of folk song mp3 to listen to (I don't believe you can download them). Here is a link to my song there if you want to have a listen: http://www.mamalisa.com/blog/ayase-lullaby/

Verse chords sounds to me like Dm C Gm Am7 x 2 (and the lead tab plays around these chords)
Chorus sounds like Gm C Dm; Gm C F Am7; Gm C Dm; Gm C Am7; F C Dm Gm C; F C Am7....That should get you started

Spring is here in northern Virginia and with it all the new life and growth that nature brings. I know the yard work that goes with spring will eventually get old but for now I am enjoying it, so much so that I wrote this song.

Suburban Pastoral By Jeff Gilpin

May 5, 2013

[C/G]I look all a[CMaj7]round me and [Am7]see so much [CMaj7]life

It a[C/G]stounds me some[CMaj7]times that I [Am7]wonder out [CMaj7]loud

When [F/C]I'm all a[F/D]lone when [F/C]I’m in a [F/D]crowd

Or [G]when we’re out walking to[F/C]gether on a trail through the [C/G]woods [CMaj7] [Am7] [CMaj7]

[C/G]Just yester[CMaj7]day while I [Am7]worked in the [CMaj7]yard

All [C/G]whirling a[CMaj7]round as they [Am7]float to the [CMaj7]ground

[F/C]Thousands of [F/D]whirlybirds [F/C]meandering [F/D]down

As [G]they try to spread little [F/C]maples all through the [C/G]world[CMaj7] [Am7] [CMaj7]

And as I [F/C]sweep up my sidewalk and my driveway too

I [C/G]marvel at all that I [F/C]see

I wonder what all of the [G]maples

Think about [C/G]me[CMaj7] [Am7] [CMaj7]

As[C/G] I do my [CMaj7]yard work I [Am7]know pretty [CMaj7]soon

I’ll [C/G]be back a[CMaj7]gain to con[Am7]tinue this [CMaj7]chore

As if [F/C]driving back [F/D]nature just [F/C]makes it grow [F/D]more

Yet I still [G]prod it along with [F/C]treatments that accentu[C/G]ate [CMaj7] [Am7] [CMaj7]

Some [C/G]flowers are [CMaj7]blooming and [Am7]some are just [CMaj7]buds

And [C/G]some now are [CMaj7]shriveled their [Am7]show about [CMaj7]over

Their [F/C]annual [F/D]visit each [F/C]year I dis[F/D]cover

The [G]beauty of nature as [F/C]winter evolves into [C/G]spring [CMaj7] [Am7] [CMaj7]

And as I [F/C]bag up all my yard trimmings

I [C/G]marvel at all that I [F/C]see

I wonder what the grass and the [G]flowers

All think about [C/G]me[CMaj7] [Am7] [CMaj7]

[C/G]There in my [CMaj7]holly tree [Am7]I see a [CMaj7]nest

That some [C/G]house finches [CMaj7]made [Am7]early this [CMaj7]spring

To a[F/C]void all the [F/D]weather and [F/C]do other [F/D]things

Now [G]more little finches a[F/C]light throughout the [C/G]branches[CMaj7] [Am7] [CMaj7]

Other [C/G]birds at the [CMaj7]feeder and [Am7]at the bird[CMaj7]bath

But they [C/G]bolt when I [CMaj7]check them to [Am7]fill and to [CMaj7]clean

But there’s [F/C]no way to [F/D]tell them [F/C]I’m not very [F/D]mean

I’m [G]sure they’ll come back a[F/C]gain once I’m [C/G]gone [CMaj7] [Am7] [CMaj7]

And as I [F/C]wash out the birdbath and refill the feeder

I [C/G]marvel at all that I [F/C]see

I wonder what all of the [G]birds

Think about [C/G]me[CMaj7] [C/G]

Could you bring it further west like California???

That might be tough for some of the Atlantic/east coasters, but there is nothing stopping a Cali-Chordiestock  from happening. I bet you could get a good gathering of people if you pick a good  location for all to meet.

I would like that as well Amy. I would be a tentative attendee (dependent on my work situation at the time), but I will make it if I can. There sure are lots of places between Zurf's place and yours that would fit. We might even be able to convince some of our Canadian Chordie members too attend, at least the ones from the eastern side of the country.

Hey Zen,

Welcome to chordie. If you want to post your original songs we have a forum on chordie for songwriting that is used for people to post their own original compositions. This is separate from the regular chordie.com searchable artist songs, but your songs will be shared with the people like me who enjoy reading the new original material people share. You can also come back to the songwriting forum and get a copy of them. You can not use the songwriting forum to post other artist work, but it is good for posting your own material that you have the rights to and would like to share.

Song idea I finally completed for all you old softies (like me) out there.

Old Softy By Jeff Gilpin

April 14, 2013

He’s [D]easy with a [F]kind word

[C]Ever [G] with a [D]smile

Gets [D]caught up in re[F]flection

But he’ll [C]come back [G]after a [D]while

He’s [D]giving and he’s [F]honest

Wears his [C]feelings [G]on his [D]sleeve

What he’s [D]thinking you just [F]can’t guess

His [C]mind goes [G]where it [D]pleases

He’s an [Bb]old softy it’s [F]true

With a [C]sympathetic [D]smile

Often [Bb]cheerful never [F]cruel

A bit of [C]mischief a [G]bit of [D]guile

Patri[D]otic and ro[F]mantic

[C]Easy to [G]laugh or [D]cry

Plays it [D]off like no one [F]noticed

Just got [C]something [G]in his [D]eye

Lives with [D]passion in his [F]fashion

But he [C]keeps it [G]in con[D]trol

If you [D]ask him why he’s [F]like that

He’ll smile and [C]say that’s [G]how I [D]roll

He’s an [Bb]old softy it’s [F]true

With a [C]sympathetic [D]smile

Often [Bb]cheerful never [F]cruel

A bit of [C]mischief a [G]bit of [D]guile

He [D]wasn’t always [F]like this

He was [C]once tough [G]as a [D]boulder

But through [D]trials and tribu[F]lations

He softened [C]up as [G]he got [D]older

Now his [D]memories from the [F]past

[C]Color [G]all his [D]feelings

And it’s [D]rare he gets [F]disturbed

Or [C]emotions [G]start un[D]reeling

He’s an [Bb]old softy it’s [F]true

With a [C]sympathetic [D]smile

Often [Bb]cheerful never [F]cruel

A bit of [C]mischief a [G]bit of [D]guile

Hey Roger - Typo/spell check error - for some reason I put in the German spelling of the word typhoon which in German is taifun. It is all corrected now.  I blame my mothers ancestors for my genetic pre-disposition f
