I think that there are a lot of guitar players here with strumming problems.
I also try to play some "picking" but before I know I'm strumming again.

Goodmorning TIBERNIUS.
What do you mean by gig: big concert palace, bars, playing for 100 or 1000 people?
My FENDER CYBERTWIN AMP is a 2x65W. I am privileged because I lice AND in the center of my village AND yet alone. There is a parking plot with 2 houses, and one is mine.
Example, you know the "auto scooters"standing in front of my house and making a lot of "boom boom" electronic music. On a day in 2006, they come twice a year, I played electric because the music was so loud and watching a movie? Forget it. So I opened my "guitar room" window, volume on 5, and the owner of that attraction, a friend, I still see his head through the window asking if I could play not that loud, since their music isn't as loud as before. I think if I should give a gig that my amp will heard quit good.
CONCLUSION: Go up at least to 100W, if you use 50W and the drummer plays louder, you can increase the volume but the sound is different.

This question popped up when I read that the late JAMES BROWN declared he had written 3000 songs.
Is this true? or who can put a crown on his head as most productive songwriter?
- BOB DYLAN? He wrote hundreds of songs, not alone for himself but for a lot of others, and on www.amazon.com you can find an entire bootleg collection, songs who never made it on an album.
so WHO do you think was or is the top song writer, or some top writers names.

It's all written in the title, are there chordians who play very clean, a crystal clear sound without using effects? Or using just a few effects, like 3 to 4 different effect boxes like wah wah, overdrive?
The more I play the more I go back to SIMPLICITY, despite the fact that I have a lot of floorboards, I start playing more and more USING MY ACOUSTIC AMP.
Or JAZZ? who plays JAZZ here?

Re: Line 6 POD X3 (5 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
I am a sinner father, I have 3 amps
- Marshall Valvestate since a very long time. I can turn it on but I need a plastic piece to put under the POWER ON knob, if I don't: no power. It is a very good amp
- On a sunny day somewhere in 2002 I bought a Fender Cybertwin 2x65W and dozens of different amps in it, a lot of fenders. I tried that amp with some friends, a BASSMAN a FENDER TWIN REVERB and 2 or 3 other FENDER AMPS. You choose an amp, the knobs turn automatic and the sound? NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE REAL BASSMAN and the CYBERTWIN BASSMAN. Add more than 100 different effects. AND YET havuing it all on board, I have a LINE6 FLOORBOARD POD XT LIVE. Amazing but in fact I use that floorboard almost never on the FENDER amp. I use it on the MARSHALL and on a MARSHALL AS100D a great acoustic amp. Because of (medical) circomstances I play a lot more acoustic.
Is it interesting to buy effects for an acoustic? I don't think so.
ABOUT POD X3 I think that the red bean is far one of the most complete effect processors, you can listen to examples on http://line6.com/podx3/
I am sure you won't be disappointed, and line6 is in fact the "standard" for a lot of other processors. The X3 is small, but has so much on board.
Congratulations, you won't regret it.

ZURF end 2005, I went to ESTONIA, to meet a girl. I stopped practicing on 8 November 2004, and I had 2 problems, most people told that it was OR MY LEFT FOOT OR MY BROKEN VERTEBRA PUSHING, CUTTING IN MY SPINAL CHORD ALSO LEFT. My foot could make a tremendous and funny noise, fooling a lot of older people having a wooden floor. Making some movements = noise, extra noise on wood. I told the all that there was a problem with their floor. Finally the pain increased and again surgery in September 2005, and on 7th December (my anniversary) I was there in ESTONIA, back over HELSINKI to BRUSSELS. I was in a BIG music store and there was a little book full with R&R facts. Most of the facts are 100% correct, I check most of them, and WOOLWORTH, is for me WOOLNOTWORTH. One thing EXPENSIVE CLOTHES is often THE BEST BUY. I have a lot of "fancy" costumes, never in a "flashy" color, just blue, grey, and a nice shirt AND A TIE. This is what I regret a lot in 4 years, I used a costume 3 times, before EVERY DAY. I have a lot of BOSS costumes, BUT DID YOU KNOW WHO DESIGNED THE GERMAN UNIFORMS FOR OFFICERS??? yes BOSS. I hate WWII but admit compare a GERMAN uniform, a Colonel with an USA Uniform of a Colonel, sorry, the GERMAN OFFICERS HAD GREAT UNIFORMS.

Dear TONY I agree 100%, even 1000% I belonged in that category once. The greatest dirtiest pigs are MED SCHOOL STUDENTS.
At the time I finished my studies drugs were still in a TABOO sphere, but there was ALCOHOL.
AND I SWEAR when you see 40 different patients a day, starting at 07.30 and back at 22.30, your head is so full of THOUGHTS and impossible to stop that it is so easy to START taking "substances".
As MD the problem was maybe worse, in the early 80ties you had a so easy access to heavy but real heavy stuff FOR FREE, and I have known some who sold it 15$ for 1 pill. Coming home and a restless mind, just open a littke door and think: WHAT CAN I TAKE TODAY.
THE BIGGEST ISSUE IS THE INTERACTION PERSON VERSUS ENVIRONMENT
If you participate also "social life" dozens of people who don't have you as doc, start firing questions and questions. The professions mentioned by tony are very accurate, but a little correction you will find them everywhere but the top 3 = CEO, MED DOCS, LAWYERS. So I GOT A LIFE TONY. GOT, because I'm unfortunately disabled now. 1 detail ESCAPE IN DRUGS OR ALCOHOL WON'T SOLVE THE PROBLEMS, it might relieve your "pain" for a while, your INNER pain and what starts with a BIG WOW EFFECT after 1 pill you're running out of time real fast to end with 20 pills to feel decent, and it doesn't take much longer than a month.
Well maybe a good idea to open a private "hospital" for addicts.
It is so strange the evolution from a taboo to an almost normal phenomenon.
What's so strange is that since my car crash caused me to stop there was no more an "urge" to "dream away". And we all are old enough to remember the FAMOUS DEATH LIST IN THE 70TIES
with LOU REED, KEITH RICHARDS ON TOP. If you get caught at the Canadian border like in the case of KEITH, did he spend time in jail? NO NO NO he only lost 30 years later the title "SIR" and is still pissed of that JAGGER is "SIR" Mick.
KEN look to pictures of ARTISTS without make-up BRITNEY, LOPEZ, and as top of the bill PARIS, if you see them without make-up, in particular PARIS, a dark haired woman with a nose pointing to PARIS walking on long thin "legs". see AMY WINEHOUSE, I have seen a lot in my life but such a vulgarity uneducated stupid and tattooed mean woman is even too much for me. So if I read well, you perform sometimes in bars were the "kids" have fun by singing KARAOKE?
I believe karaoke is very funny ifd you are not yet drunk but on your way to get drunk.
If you have to perform later, let's say from 23.00-24.00h in THAT bar, I understand that this is real difficult. I compare it with an event in 1983, I was shy in class, and suddenly I got a phone that they needed a "replacement doc" to teach medicines fore future physiotherapists. Before I could even think I said yes I'll do it. OH BOY, me in nightlife the most notorious student but in daytime very quiet they throw me in the crocodile pool. But since that day, no more fear and I learned all my knowledge about medicines there by writing an own course.
THE BEST DEFENSE IS ATTACK if a "youngster" gives you"the finger" and 30 minutes before he was singing for his friends I should play EXACTLY THE SAME SONG and invite him on stage to perform with you, and even ask to bet if he will do it. YOU WIN, and you make him in fact ridiculous in front of his friends, but consider it as a game, just a challenge, and pick the guy who is the noisiest and ask him for a duet, and once je accepts you start playing a "children song" or a "boogeyman" song, telling him LET'S PLAY BOOGEY"and when he accept you start with a R&R riff followed by a song about the boogey man.
THIS TACTICS ARE MY ALL TIME FAVORITES use his behaviour against him. It ain't easy but it's real fun once you can do this.

DRAKE isn't it a waste of money? Of course how many persons on 1000 will continue to play? That's why I wrote a while ago if you buy a FENDER in stead of a SQUIER you might be more motivated.
AMPS + FLOORBOARDS + GUITARS = every kind of sound.
PURE? I love to play pure but also using "heavy" effects.
It's a difficult point. You can be owner of a genuine Gibson see melodymaker for 400$ and 800$ gives you a flying V or an SG.
THIS IS SO DIFFICULT. Most of wannabe players have a limited budget, and a squier gives a great sound as an epiphone SG special, one of the cheapest guitars, provides also a nice sound.

Re: INGREDIENTS NEEDED FOR A "HIT" (4 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Agree, here on chordie WE THINK HOW, WHAT and WHY some performers succeed.
1 example THE MEGA SUPER HIT "WHITOUT YOU" is still credited by 90% to HARRY NILSSON, who took the song from BADFINGER.
They had a "minor" hit he had a major hit, repeated by Mariah Carey's version, 20 ears later.
Comparing the 3 versions
- CAREY = a sterile but perfectly arranged version
- NILSSON = passion, a cry, a MONUMENT of a song, I can only compare it with JOE COCKER singing "With a little help from my friends" written by the GREATEST GROUP EVER: THE BEATLES
- BADFINGER = a catchy tune but no "spirit"
IS THIS A CORRECT COMPARISION? It's how I see it.
Another fact is WHY AND WHERE ARE THE REAL GREAT BANDS IN A PERIOD from 2000-2008, I can't find NO BAND at ALL. If we think logic and see how many possibilities we have to make a song at home: just pick up your guitar, use a device like BOSS BR 1600CD record it and let your PC do the finishing touch, put it on youtube or myspace, I am really surprised that we almost never find a song who becomes a mega-hit. Compared to 15 years ago, every single person can write a song, arrange it and show it to a million public and yet....

Re: RUSSELL SAIS: karioke killed a lot of jobs for solo artist? ELECTRONIC (7 replies, posted in Bands and artists)
HOHOHO friend RUSSELL you wrote your answer in such a way that I was able to post this topic.
About all electronic stuff, making a song (most electronic music) was something I asked before but forgot to EDIT. You reminded me and if YOU and ME share the same idea, I refuse to take the credit alone. This can be a great topic, and since after 1 hour of thinking I didn't find a better way to write what is so close to your words I decided to do it this way. You have a point, just one question, WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY KARAOKE? In fact this is a screen where you see the lyrics and you try to sing those lyrics. I was always afraid to do "my thing in public", and probably I still am.
Singing like you in public RUSS+GUITAR alone isn't that scary?
- HOW IS THE REACTION OF PEOPLE? walking by and act as if they didn't notice you?
- A LITTLE CROWD AROUND YOU, still the best way to perform is being aware that people love you playing?
And about DJ'S here in BELGIUM it is very exceptional to see a sing a song writer performing on a wedding. WORSE a band. They come with a PC and some amps and they play every song you can imagine. I think that the"EUROPEAN" culture is coming to the USA: THE DJ.
There are guys who receive for turning music 1000$ or more in 1 hour. Will it change? I hope.
It reminds me that 45 years ago a man in the UK told 4 young people that guitar bands were not longer in. So he didn't sign them, our Beatles.
And here we are close to a topic WHAT IS NEEDED TO HAVE A HUGE HIT?

Topic: THE IMPORTANCE OF STRUMMING = RIGHT OR WRONG? (18 replies, posted in Acoustic)
I often play acoustic guitar, despite the fact that I own 12 electric guitars and having a free room in my house in the middle of my village ON A PARKING PLOT, and only a second house.
Still I prefer acoustic.
It all started with a YAMAHA FG 300, 30 years ago. Those guitars were quit expensive here, OVER PRICED, I paid 400$ in 1978. On the other hand this Yamaha is a wonder to play.
WOODS +++, NECK +++, SOUND +++ , and red label.
WHO HAS EXPERIENCE WITH THIS KIND OF YAMAHA. I only know that prices of this guitar on auctions here go up to 600€ (= 900$ !!!!)
Back to acoustic:
- When I play a song, even every song I know, I never pay attention on the strumming style.
IS THIS GOOD IR BAD.
My goal is to play my guitar in a way that the song is recognized immediately. There are songs, like DOOBIE BROTHERS, LYNYRD SKYNYRD who have a CLEAR strumming pattern like D(own) and U(p)
Like D D D D U U D D D U D D.
Not following the strumming pattern as I should do, doesn't KILL the song. BUT THAT'S MY OPINION
Are there more "experienced" players who don't pay attention on strumming?
A question in connection with this topic is HOW DO YOU PLAY REGGAE?

Topic: INGREDIENTS NEEDED FOR A "HIT" (4 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I saw on my most memorable trip through the USA, bands playing in Nashville, Memphis, New Orleans, better than bands like STYX (if I hear babe is it Billy Joel singing it?), FOREIGNER and the for me OVERRATED TOM PETTY (THE DYLAN CLONE by excellence).
I saw a lot of gigs over a 16 year period being backstage doc, and some of the bands I saw I would give them 99%.
SO WHAT AM I MISSING HERE? You have a GREAT tune, a great ACT and GREAT musicians BUT NO HIT.
Who or what is in order to have a hit, very important? Driving with your VAN from radiostation to radiostation? Giving great gigs in a club? BUSKING?
Make your own CD'S and give a few thousands to people?
That"s why I ask what is needed?

Is this true?
In Belgium and other European countries, but BELGIUM IS a major player on the market of electronic music.
Amazing what GREAT AND BRIGHT MUSICIANS THEY ARE.
Left hand used to play 10 minutes the SAME chord, right hand to add some melody.
And yes you have a 10 minute song using 1 chord, they take it all together, use a PC software, and compared to an egg, a NEW CHICKEN is born.
- You can sing as false as possible, no problem, we'll fix it.
- Rent a big place, use a lot of light-effects and a great subwoofer, and watch all the kids dance.
IS THERE ROOM FOR REAL MUSICIANS?

Re: HOW MANY CHORDIANS PERFORM SOLO OR IN A BAND? (6 replies, posted in Bands and artists)
This is a rhetorical question and inappropriate too, $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Why? It's obvious because I ask if you can make a living by playing.
MY OWN SISTER IS (was) BALLERINA on professional level. She is born in Belgium of course, and her passion was BALLET. I don't remember me how many times she went to ballet school, she was 4-5 years old when she started, and was "spotted" several times to join a ballet company providing
- A HARD AND SPARTAN TRAINING
- NEXT OR PARALLEL WITH THE TRAINING THEY FOLLOWED CLASS.
BUT, I believe parents changed a lot on this problem, my father, open minded and my mother, more severe TOLD = NO WAY. First finish school, and than you have still time. I remember all this because it's so sad. She was the best of her class and won almost every contest, in competition with a girl named ANN THERESA DE KEERSMAECKER, on 10 confrontations my sister won 8. That girl has now a worldfamous company named ROSAS, ( http://www.rosas.be/) and she was accepted at the age of 14. My sister was accepted too after finishing school 18 years old. She was and still is the first who accomplished this, TOO old. (Were such parent/kids discussions the same in the USA? I believe parents push more to have a little "star" in your country) And yet
she could follow that class, 2 years in 1 year + an additional ballet training in MONTREAL.
It's sad to be the best, and to see that the second best is now world famous. (there are probably a lot more influences like character, organisation, management, so I 'll never know how it would end) She moved to Germany after Canada and earned not bad at all. TODAY she's 48 years old, her husband is 43, is from Mauritius and is starting slowly to become a frequent asked choreograph. But MONEY? Enough to survive and to live their lives.
A lot of parents were like mine in the 60ties.
This story is written because of CHOICES YOU HAVE TO MAKE. BEING VERY GOOD IN WHAT YOU DO AND HAVING LUCK.
