Hey Russell ,
That's probably why you see Les Pauls played in a lot of these clubs , L O L ...
Actually though , if I had to use an instrument for self defense , I would want a bass that I used to have ... It was a Peavey T-40 ... That thing weighed a ton ... Thick solid maple ... I know that thing would have stopped at least a small caliber round too ....
L O L .........

Hey WbH ,
I've heard of guitarists being electricuted ... I also remember when my little brother , my brother in law , and I used to jam ... My brother in law played through a vintage Gibson Mercury amp and plugged his mic into it also , and my little brother was always flipping the polarity switch on that amp so that my brother in law would get a jolt when he touched his face on the mic ... Can't believe my brother in law kept letting him get away with it ... I would have kicked his butt all over the place , L O L ...

Hey Guys ,
Bungee jumping is something I don't get either , although loving the water as I do , I've always wanted to try bungee water skiing ... I came up with this idea about twelve years ago and have'nt put it into practice yet , might just be the biggest thing since my ski chair incident that almost took my life , L O L ....
I used to get a big kick out of rappelling from a hovering chopper , especially when it seemed to scare the beejeebees out of the paratroopers that I was drilling with , L O L ..... Oh the good old days ....

Whoa ,
I'm gettin scared , because I remember all these things , including selling " Grit " and the teacher either throwing stuff at you or wapping you up side the head with a textbook if you were napping .. Seems like that happened to me quite a lot ...L O L ... Of coarse that was back when being sent to the principal's office did'nt just mean you were going to get a " talking to " ...
Hey Cam , I'll trade you my steely for that cats eye ,L O L ....
Does anyone else remember pulling into a gas station and having four guys come running out to practically service your car while THEY put the gas in ??? I was up in north central North Dakota last weekend to play a party and pulled into a little gas station in Devils Lake to fill up , and before I could get out to pump the gas this guy was at my window ... It's the measure of our times that I felt very uncomfortable having someone else pump gas for me and actually weirded me out when he started washing my windows and asked to check under the hood , L O L ....

Hi Jared ,
I've always been an advocate of the " Suzuki Method " for learning any instrument , which simply put , means , hear it , listen to it , then play it ... In my opinion , it's the most important tool along with having the lyrics and chords at hand ... This used to be known as " playing by ear " ,
and is the way I learned to play when I was a kid ... There was no running to the store or internet to get sheet music ... After all these years , I still believe it's the best way ...

Hey Cam ... Great idea ... I've always used that resin called " Gorilla Snot " , that's made for that ... It works really good too ... I spend four bucks on a container of it and lasts me about six months , and that there durn pick stays put , L O L ... And I ain't never dropping the durn thang either ......

I'm just an old geezer who needs to detune a guitar one full tone for some songs and a while back a guy told me that there is an electronic gadget / gizmo that plugs in between the guitar and the system that will do this electronically ... Does anyone know of such a thing that's available without spending four bills on a guitar effects processor ?? It sure would save time not having to retune or switch guitars ... Thanks for any help ....

Hi Ben ,
Guess I'm old school , it is a very rude habit that some of these people have with these phones ... Not just kids either .. You can be standing talking to someone and they'll be ignoring you and messing with that phone .. Drives me nuts ..
If I had kids at home , they would be lucky to have a cell phone for emergencies only , and any other use , they would pay for ... They would still be forbidden to use it at all during certain times of the day ( like during school ) .. Or driving !! Have'nt you seen a kid driving while he or she is messing with that stupid phone ??
In my city , there's actually a low level debate going on about whether or not kids should be able to text or talk on their phones during school hours ... WTF ..
In my opinion we could just as well send the teachers home ... I'm so sick of these people who treat their twelve year olds like adults with the thinking that if they're treated like adults then they must be adults ??? It's like saying that only sick people take pills , so if I don't take pills , then I can't be sick , L O L ....

About twenty years ago , when I sold my second house , I had three big boxes of vinyl stored by themselves in a basement storage area and when we moved I just completely gapped it and never even thought of them untill six months later ... I knew I could'nt very well go back and ask the new owners for them so they got a bonus in the deal .. Just hope they realize what they got , L O L ..
Have'nt had a turtable for years , but last summer at a flea market , I ran across a commercial Califone model  1455K phonograph in perfect condition and bought it for fifteen bucks , since then I've been building up my vinyl again ... This phonograph is nice because it has the strobe so you can be sure it's running at correct speed ... The thing is also made to be carried and tough enough to be tossed around , although I don't , L O L ....

Here's a cute one ....
A guy decides to go sky diving ... He's all excited , goes up in the plane , jumps out and pulls his rip cord ..... nothing happens , but he does'nt panic and reaches around and pulls his reserve rip cord ... nothing happens ... As he's falling , he sees this other guy coming straight up toward him , as they pass , the sky diver yells over and says " hey , do you know anything about sky diving ?" And the other guy yells back and says , " no , do you know anything about gas stoves ?"

Interesting thread Doc ...
I never cared much for the Doors or their music ... Has anyone ever read the book about them ?? I'd sooner flush the money down the toilet than buy it , but a friend of my did , and told me about some of what's in it and I'll tell you what , Morrison was one sick dude ...
As for the beatles recordings being played backward to convey dark messages , I heard a vintage radio interview with John Lennon last summer and in it he was asked about that , and he said , " what kind of mind does it take to think of playing a recording backwards , in fact how on earth do you play a record backwards anyway ?? " I thought that was pretty funny , L O L ........
As far as Zeppelin and Stairway to Heaven goes , if I ever hear that tune again , it will be too soon ... When I had my music store , guys would always come in , pick out a guitar and start playing that like I was gonna be really impressed ... Was'nt long before I put up a sign that read " No Stairway to Heaven "...L O L .

Hey Guys ,
I had a Harmony Rocket (335 copy ) at one time years ago and that ax was sweeeet ... Don't know what possesed me to sell it ...
I love Guild guitars , I have three and in '99 I decided to buy a brand new Guild F65CE ... Top of the line accoustic electric , this guitar is loaded , fishman dual source preamp and electronics ... Enough mother of pearl and abalone inlays to put the species on the endangered list , plays like a million bucks and ever since the first time I played it at a jam , I have been unhappy with the sound of the thing ... Now I just avoid playing it and it's a shame ...
People always tell me how pretty it is , and I know that tone is very subjective but it's just not what my other Guilds are ........

Hi Guys ,
There is something I'd like to say on this subject and I hope that any lurkers or newbies will see it and realize that this site is not like most ... Before finding Chordie , I signed up on more than a few sites like it and found that on most of these sites there are a small number of oldtimers that just seem to hang out waiting for a new person to sign up and post something so they can come down on them like a ton of bricks like they're not wanted ... Does'nt take long before you're gun shy and don't want to even ask a question ... When I first found Chordie , I just cruised the forums and kept my mouth shut for a good couple of months before posting anything here ... (Amazing how much there is to be learned by just doing that and not participating ...)
When I did finally post something , I was amazed at the warm welcome I received ... I knew I had found a place for me ...
Chordie is unlike any of those other sites , and it's the good folks here that make it what it is ... So any of you folks out there that have had bad experiences on other sites , just give Chordie a try because you're wanted here , and you may just have something to offer the rest of us ...... Thanks ...

Hi , Roger , Jerome and Ken , and welcome to Chordie JohnBoy !!
Way back when I was stumbling around on the piano ( keyboard ) , I played melody with one hand and chorded with the other , so yes they use chords ....
Just my opinion , but as far as folks just coming on here for lyrics and the forum , those two things are what has kept me here , and I sure don't see anything wrong with that .... Don't see why it matters what you play as long as we can all help each other ....
Having said that though , I do agree with Jerome in that you're never too old to learn guitar if that's what you want .... Just my two cents ........

Hi DevilCat ,
   Welcome to Chordie !!
This is a funny subject for me because I know two long time players who still use that " one finger at a time " method when going to some chords ... They're fast enough and it works for them ... The only beef I have with it is that if I'm just jamming along , I'll just follow what the other player is doing and when they do it this way sometimes it's hard to see where they're going untill the actually get there and of course they're just getting there in the nick of time themselves , so it's hard to follow along , L O L .... It has worked for them all these years ... Having said that though , there's a lot of good advice here , hope someone has helped ....

Hey DM ,
Boy , if you had any idea how much I've seen this and dealt with it myself in my forty five years of playing guitar ... I personally know several gifted players who just have no ambition or motivation and it drives me crazy , especially due to the fact that these people are also gifted singers and could easily make a living playing out ... I finally got tired of even trying with them and just quit inviting them to jams ... Still , every once in a while I'll hear one of them say " yeah , I gotta start playing more " , and I just shake my head , L O L .... Like Southpaw says , just go solo and keep on , you'll be happier in the long run ...
    Hey Kaji ,
Sherlock Holmes and the Doc. are still two of my favorite literary characters , great quote .......

Hi Guys ,
Don't see much talk about Guilds on here , L O L ... I'm a Guild nut ... I have a '99 F65ce , a '97 F30nt and a '65 F30 in my small collection ... All sweet guitars .. I use the '97 F30nt sometimes playing out so decided to install a pickup on that one ... I installed a Fishman under saddle with end pin jack , works good and did'nt really change the guitar from original ... I use the same stand alone preamp with it that I use for my fiddles .... In my opinion it sounds better than the F65ce plugged in ...Even though the F65ce has the onboard blender too ........
