Yeah, but next time we should camp on the Thames!

I only can play the guitar, and I can only play on the low side of adequately in my opinion. I wish I could play every other instrument that's out there. There are some songs that I listen to and think to myself, "Man, I wish I could play that." If I had to pick 2 instruments, I would say, the banjo and piano are the other two instruments that I wish I could play. Both are able to come up with such emotional music that just tugs at my heart. The violin is another, but I set the limit to two so I’m sticking to it. Anyone else?

A little something I wrote for a friend today.

For your birthday
By Jeff Gilpin
September 20, 2011

Birthdays don’t mean what they used to
They’re different from what they were before
The meaning has changed
Somehow rearranged
To a day we would rather ignore

They used to be so special
What with cakes and presents and fun
Playing games where we hid
Back when we were kids
Full of laughs as we’d play in the sun

We don’t mind getting older
Another year longer to live
Full of work and worry
Always in a hurry
But it beats the alternative

We all still got a little kid in us
Who tried to break the piñata
But now theres’ bills to pay
As we work night the day
Punching that clock cause we gotta

So happy birthday again
As another year rolls around
Break through that mold
Like you’re still a twelve year old
And party ‘til the sun goes down…and comes up

Pretty neat alright.  That got me to checking in my wallet and I found that all my cards are thicker than I would like, but I am sure there is other materials out there that would do the trick.  I might have to check that one out.  Thanks Zguitar

Thanks daddy - Yeah, I have stopped looking because it is not going to help, and will worry me to no good end. I know lots of folks are dropping out of the stock market and investing in precious medals. The advice I keep getting is to keep your money in stocks if you are a long term investor…..my the time I will be ready to retire it will either be back up or I will have to keep working….either way there’s not much I can do about it now.

This is just a state of the world song. Just when you think things are getting better something else happens, then something else, and so on. Plain old folk just got to keep on going because there is no other choice.

This started as a poem, and I was going to leave it like that, but this tune was in my head when I read it so I put it to this tune. It’s pretty much about heroes, and politicians, and how some of the best people end up losing their lives while other people are proude to be kicking a problem they should be fixing down the road.

Hey Steel - It is very much a shame. So many of the 30 who died were from this area (metro DC, Maryland and Virginia) , or had ties here. I also wish this war would end, but we have many brave men and women who are continually willing to put themselves into harms way, again and again.

Thanks you all. Steel, I think using Keith as your inspiration is going to set your bar high, but a good high. Have a good play with it bluejeep. I can just picture what that will look and sound like. I'm kind of fond of mountains. I'm originally from Asheville, NC. I was driving past your neck of the woods last weekend where I-26 and I-81 meet...pretty country. DE, thanks very much. I'd love to hear your rendition. BTW, my inspiration for this song came back this morning and I played it for her, and she told me she liked the it (wiping a tear from her eye). I am a lucky man.

Hey Steel - Thanks - Man, I sure wish I could sing & play like it like Keith. I noticed I was playing it with a capo on the third fret but forgot to add it to the song....doesn't matter though, but capo'ed down suits my voice a little better.

I’m a bachelor this weekend with my wife off with her golfing girls doing who knows what. These little times she's away help me to remember just how special she is to me. It’s nice reflecting on her when she is away.

But I’m content just to [A]be here

[G]Thinking of you [A]when you’re not a[C]round [D]

[C]Life’s pretty simple [D]sometimes

Thanks Steel and Dino. I was trying to get this tune out of my head so I could get to sleep. With the line "I come from the United States where everything is free" is just how some folks view the US. You know, the land of hopes and dreams but the reality is that the US is far from the place where people can come and easily live out their dreams. Life is getting much more difficult here....but that's life!

Just a fun bar song I wrote to help us all thumb our noses at all the economic problems in the world. No matter what happens in this whole money grubbing existance we all will still have to trudge on until we can’t any more.
