Russell

Here's a new verse for the Pawnee Creek song  smile

I had a woman long ago up on Pawnee Creek
she loved to touch and admire my physique
well her fingers were sexy,  long and very thin
but she left me when she saw  my tiny mandolin

smile   Have a good one !

Graham - great song on a sensitive subject !

That is cool clapping for NHS -   yesterday our high school band teacher and his family went to some members of the band's house's - met them outside - and played the U.S. National anthem for our small town to hear.   They played a little under a dozen places around town. . I videotaped them outside of my house. It was very cool and inspiring.
Hoping you all are safe and healthy.

Mojo

I am always a huge fan of your musical abilities and song writing.
would it be too much of a hassle for you to post the lyrics ?
I am so glad you have your music ability with you in Africa !
Have you ever thought of doing a song including some African beat - a la Paul Simon on his  Graceland album.

Brian

Solid advice !!

These certainly are the times that try our souls as Thomas Paine wrote back in 1776.

I am thankful that we have the ability to share concerns here on chordie and get some relief in a variety of ways.

I too try to always respond to posts here on chordie.

Keep positive, and stay healthy. Hopefully we can all write a song in few months about all of this and say  " phew - we made it through that "

best wishes Brian and all my chordie pals and gals.

Phill

Thank you - I totally agree and knew that - just couldn't figure it out.
I knew there were to many syllables for the beat count ( I'm assuming that's what metre is smile  )

Thanks again

oh yeah
I was going to go to California through Chicago to visit my daughter. I cancelled - just saw a picture of the airport
There are 4-6 hour delays - shoulder to shoulder people.
This is crazy

I teach in central ( rural) New York and my school is closed, as is every one of them in central New  York. Most for 3 weeks - it is wreaking havoc.
Toilet paper - ( although I don't why) is gone from shelves in every store.
I am content to just stay at home - enjoy time with my family, and also play guitars.  I've got a couple of projects to do assuming Home depot doesn't close)
I really don't need to be around anyone
til this is over ! Even churches are closed.
Good health to all of you - let's get through this

I re -wrote the song  ( which was inspired by Russell and his band's instrumental version)
I couldn't find the original thread - easier to to it this way.

I tried to make it a bit mysterious.

Hope it works for you.

Pawnee Creek  by Jim Kenyon

Verse 1

.

[Em]up in the Northland near Pawnee creek

met me a woman made my knees grow weak

I fell so hard I nearly lost my mind

[B7]made me feel so good, then she[Am] left me be[Em]hind

Verse 2

.

[Em]we shared a cabin down by Pawnee creek

I fell in love for about a week

she was a hard luck woman with killer eyes

[B7]her bed was warm, but her [Am]heart was all [Em] lies

.

Chorus

[Am]oh Pawnee Creek, Pawnee Creek

[Em]Yeah Pawnee Creek, Pawnee creek

[Am]where the water flows and the eagles fly

[B7]mysterious shadows ‘neath a [Am]pale moon [Em]sky

[Am]oh Pawnee Creek,such a pretty name

[Em]Pawnee creek, never leave you the same

[Am] sure ain’t no place for the mild or meek

[B7]ain't nothing but heartaches from [Am]Pawnee [Em]Creek

.

Verse 3

.

[Em]Up in the tall pines near Pawnee creek

I still hear her voice, though she doesn’t speak

Oh, We loved, we loved, and we loved some more

[B7]but then that witchy woman snuck [Am] out the [Em]door

Verse 4

.

[Em]Well it's a lonely road that leads from Pawnee Creek

whispering pines mask a mournful shriek

there's echoes of sadness as the night bird's cries

[B7]last time she ever looked in [Am] to my [Em] eyes

.

Chorus

[Am]oh Pawnee Creek, Pawnee Creek

[Em]Yeah Pawnee Creek, Pawnee creek

[Am]where the water flows and the eagles fly

[B7]mysterious shadows ‘neath a [Am]pale moon [Em]sky

[Am]oh Pawnee Creek,such a pretty name

[Em]Pawnee creek, never leave you the same

[Am] sure ain’t no place for the mild or meek

[B7]ain't nothing butheartaches from [Am]Pawnee [Em]Creek

[B7]oh how I miss that woman from [Am]Pawnee [Em]Creek

[B7]oh how I miss that woman

[B7]oh how I miss that woman

[B7]oh how I miss that woman ..........

from [Am]Pawnee [Em]Creek

end with a picking of each string in Em and then an easy  or soft  EM strum

These guys are terrific. I have listened to many of their songs previously. They also performed with Elyza Doyle on this song
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0znpJ8mE48

it is one of my Townes Van Zandt songs.  Doesn't have the emotion as when Towne's recorded it - but holy cow - that banjo picking is hot !
This the Townes version from Heartworn Highways.

Thanks CG for another great presentation of cool music!

This is  why Chordie is so great - so many kind (and talented!) people on here.

I  tried to record a version - but I'm not a musician. Phill stepped up for me and did this recording.

Thank you Phill - you really captured the emotion I was trying to evince.

I hope you like this song.
