yes, colorectal

Yesterday, the trout and I went to see the new Three Stooges movie. It was great. No hidden messages or redeemable social value or dirty parts.Just old fashioned funny and nonsensical. There was even a disclaimer by the Ferrely brothers at the end showing how the props were made of rubber and not to try the tricks in the movie. Highly recommended if you are a stooges fan. Anyone remember a movie in the 80s called STOOGEMANIA?  If it makes it back on cable sometime, don`t bother. It was lame. Also, don`t buy the dvd set at stores in the 5 to 7 dollar range. It is all Shemp except for "DISORDER IN THE COURT". That has no disclaimer.

Now in the news, it says he is making a miraculous recovery. It`s nice to write that instead of RIP.

That is true. He is alert and talking but he is still in rough shape. I hope the best for him.

I can choose one favorite album. That is Rubber Soul. I always thought of it as a crossover album. Going from holding your hand. to letting it be.Kind of like a bridge between the beginning and the end

This is hilarious...and sad.

I could cue up another Monty Python quote regarding the "She's a witch!" scene but I'll leave that to your imagination.

p.s. I've wanted to intervene in other people's purchasing decision so many times. It pains me to see them shopping with NO knowledge of what they are looking for.

On the flipside of that coin, it does feel good when you can help a friend or relatives kids by steering them away from junk like that.

I may be wrong but HELP was the soundtrack for the movie and Rubber Soul was the last album for 1965.Revolver came out in 1966.If you look at the discography, The beatles had a phenomonal amount of albums in the first two years. How many groups do that now.?

Like Dino, I also keep my nails short and don`t use any kind of finger or thumb picks.I think that I get a better feel for the string on the meat of my fingers and thumbs. I do see a lot of players with long nails on the thumb and first two fingers too. It has nothing to do with looks for me.It just feels better playing with the meat of my fingers instead of my nails.

RUN FOR YOUR LIFE  off the Rubber Soul album.  It is such an angry threatening song. Everyone must have related to it at one time or another when they were young. That has to be one of the toughest questions ever asked.Took a lot of thought.

That is why I will try to buy from Union Music in Worcester before guitar center. They know me by name and always treat me fair.I just bought a Dorado 12 string there with the hard case for 150.00.  Guitar Center is like Wal Mart. I try not to go if I don`t have to but sometimes there is no choice but to go to Wal Mart (guitar center). Oh scott, I once bought a 65 mercury convertible with no title in Maine. It was a nightmare. I was lucky enough to have a friend in New Hampshire that registered it in his name so he could sell it to me on paper. You are so right.

Thay were recovered. They have the scumbag who did it but will not release his name. How many think they should release his arms from his body before killing him?

Nothing like the private music stores. In Worcester there is Union Music. They have been around for 100 years and they know me by name. I try to buy there before guitar center. I just bought a 12 string there yesterday. There are others and pawn shops(way overpriced),but I try to patronize Union whenever I can. I won`t mention the other one`s name because I really don`t have too much good to say about it. I look at Guitar Center as a Wal Mart of guitars. They all look pretty much the same when you walk in. Union Music is like a local store should be. They make you feel welcome when you walk in. The other one is like a high end jewelry store. You can look but you can`t touch unless you are buying.   Pawn shops sell stuff for more than it would cost new. I actually asked them if they did any research before they priced their guitars. they bend on the price but still expensive

I had a dimarzio disc pickup in the 80s.It stuck on with putty also. The pickup wasn`t too bad.The guitar was junk though. An awful guitar will sound awful through a good pickup. Like the old saying."you can paint the pump, but the water will still come out dirty"

I have no mercy for thieves either. I personally think that death would be a fitting sentence,

Just came home with a DORADO 12 string today.Sounds good, has a great action and was only 150.00 with the hard case. It is to be shared by me and my daughter (the trout). In case no one knows (or cares). Dorado is the japanese version of Gretsch. Kind of like sigma is to martin or epiphone is to Gibson. I think I did good in the deal. My wife asked" how many guitars do you have?" The answer was too.(as in too many).I still did good. Was looking for a few months now and I`m glad I waited.

Keep one thing in mind.A store like Guitar Center or any pawn shops probably wouldn`t have given you the 125.00 for both pieces in trade or sold outright.I once brought an older Fender acoustic with the 6 inline headstock to trade on another used piece. They offered me 40.00 in trade.I politely declined and told them I would give it away before I took that little.  And I gave it away that next week.WHY: I go to guitar center a lot for myself and my daughter. It would really have bothered me to see my guitar in the acoustic room being sold for a lot more than I was paid for it. Watch how much your old pieces are being sold for and see what I mean. The store does have to resell them at a profit. That is why to go in armed with knowledge. And it has happened to me also. With the economy the way it is,it is more of a buyers market.

Whether it is political or not isn`t an issue.Right now it is just Gibson. If Gibson loses this, what will stop Taylor and Martin from being next on the target list. All the companies should stick up for each other in this matter. It may sound conspiracy minded, but I really think it could happen.

M.B. wrote:

I think it can be confusing the way that wood is described. From what I read, a guitar made of sapele can properly be called mahogany, but it will look different from typical mahogany (as Guitar Pix showed us).

Here's some info about mahogany I found on a guitar website:

"Mahogany is a correct name for ANY hardwood belonging to the family Meliaceae.

"Sapele and common Mahoganies are of different genera but both (and many other woods) are of the mahogany Family: Meliaceae.

"Mahogany was first used in the New World for two species of the genus Swietenia, namely Swietenia mahagoni (West Indian Mahogany) from the Caribbean and Swietenia macrophylla (Honduras Mahogany) from Central and South America.

"One Mahogany is Sapele, Entandrophragma cylindricum, from South East Asia. It is a medium reddish-brown hardwood with a marked stripe figure.

"The Mahogany name is also used for species from the African genera Entandophragma, Guarea and Khaya, and the Asian genus Toona (Phillipine Mahogany and others).

"Here is a description from Albert Constantine Jr.'s "Know Your Woods" book, first published in 1959: SAPELE (Entandrophragma cylindricum)
This species is also known as Aboudikrou, Sapele Mahogany, Sipo, and Tiama. Sapele grows in Nigeria and along the African Ivory Coast. It is a large tree and logs often come as much as 72 in. in diameter, though the usual range in the market is 30 to 36 in. The color of the wood is a dark reddish-brown with a very strong stripe and at times the grain is very irregular. This irregularity causes the plum pudding and blister figures so highly prized in the veneer field.

"The wood is very fine in texture and care has to be taken in the seasoning as it warps badly. Sometimes it is mistaken for African mahogany and is used as such; HOWEVER , IT IS HARDER AND HEAVIER, weighing from 35 to 40 lbs. per cubic foot, AND THE STRIPE IS MUCH MORE PRONOUNCED. Sapele is superior to either African or American mahogany in strength and is somewhat similar to the strength of our American oak. Sapele is used for interior paneling and also in general furniture work."

One thing I learned is that Martin had been making the 00015 out of sapele a few years ago. Then they stopped making that model, and in 2011, started making it again, this time using only traditional mahogany. So, if the Craigs List guy is selling a 00015 and it's made out of sapele (which by the picture, it sure looks like it) than it can't be a 2011 model (at least according to the source I found--which may be wrong!).

WOW !  You really did your homework

It`s awful to say but if you spent a few minutes doing some research, you could have saved yourself a lot of pain after. All said and done. You &^&*$@ yourself on that.A deal is a deal. I feel bad for you but the guy is probably laughing all the way to the bank. Think of it as a learning experience. I have been in the same situation only i was taken on the condition. Now I use that knowledge when I make future purchases.
