Well enjoipanda, welcome. It isn't easy, but I tried to make a list. It all depends.
1) How old are you, where are you from, and what kind of music do you play.
2) Do you want to play electric, acoustic or electro-acoustic?
3) What guitar do you have in mind.
4) What is your budget.
5) Since when do you play?
I always write that I am blessed, having a nice collection. If you are limited in your budget, but you really want to continue, you can:
-  wait and save your money
- buy a cheaper and decent model. I played some months ago on some epiphones, SG model.
and after trying some, the best guitar was the cheapest (asking the price after playing) was the epiphone SG special. But here some prices of EPIPHONE, FENDER (Squier included)
- Epiphone Goth Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar: 299$
- Dean: Playmate Avalanche 09H Amp and Electric Guitar Package  199$, this is a stratocaster copy, with a bag, cable, picks, and a 10W amp, you can hear the sound, without disturbing.
BEST SOLUTION: check the online music stores, I add another www.samash.com
If you find a guitar, low priced, check your guitar on youtube. It gives you an idea, when you hear the guitar you are interested in.
CONCLUSION: click on the links you see, take some time, and compare, followed by youtube where you often find a guitar, and listen to the sound

Something different, what do we despise most? You will notice a mix of food, bands, and a lot more.
Some of mine:
- scratching with a piece of chalk on the teacher's school board.
- Britney Spears.
- Paris Hilton
These 2 women are really ugly. Scratch their make-up of their faces, you probably need some hours, and when you're finished, give them back the normal hair colour and I swear, you won't recognise them. They need a "team" to prepare them to going out.
- Michael Jackson, because every minute he places his hand to pull up his tiny little p***Compared to Elvis shaking with his hips, Michaels "thing" is disgusting. Just count how many times he makes that movement. Is he afraid that his b***lls are not longer attached?
- Sharks always present when they smell money.
- Voice of singers like Sepultura.
- the "DESPICE" GIRLS.
- Porn DVD's pretending to create a story.
- DVD's where you can hear the camera's turning (believe me, there are more films than you think.
- Boiled meat.
HAVE FUN,SPIT IT OUT. And try to explain why.

TwangTown, I didn't have the time to greet you.
WAR?
- a horrible event, with what REASON?
- Isn't it disgusting wars about religion. Like the crusades, the Spanish in South America, officially "to baptise the people like AZTEKS" and to take all the gold, used for 2 reasons, THEIR WALLET, and building churches, cathedrals. THE INQUISITION, someone accused you, like a jealous family member, and there you go: torture (THIS IS ONE OF THE WORST HISTORICAL EVENTS, with an inspiration-source beyond everything). Take a woman, accused to be a witch, they put her in bag, and if she drowned, she was innocent, and if she was able to swim t the surface, she was guilty. HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF. And the worst people are always "extremists"
It gets worse: civil war, back in that era, boys living in the south, and going to study on Harvard, could end up in fighting against his own family. This really frightens me, see the CHILD SOLDIERS in Africa, killing their parents to be accepted.
IRAQ: the people even the soldiers are "meat". Why not organising a "cage fight" between those who are resposible, like a fight between G.W Bush and SADDAM (+), and the winner takes it all.

NELA, you definitely need to buy an "air guitar", a great guitar, no need to tune, and a very light weight. There are even competitions, and last time the winner got a Gibson BFG)

I love "skulls", I can't go to cut my hair, it happened twice that I couldn't sit and that's killing me.
I was the very first who had a skinhead look.
Grey hair? My daughter loves to count them, well EXACTLY 7 hairs are grey, since years.
If I should be bold, I should choose:
- cutting every hair, and be bold every day.
- a pony tail = takes the attention away from being bold.
Amazing how people can change, but I haven't, except for a missing tooth (caused by falling), a 10 year old photo will be = today. It runs in the family. It's nice to hear that nobody believes that I'm already 52. I am out of the circulation for about 3 1/2 years, and when I see some former patients, I can't believe what I see: 12 year old kids, now almost 17, I DON'T RECOGNISE THEM
Same story with people of my age, having grey hair, almost white.
James, I also had fun, I thought I was the only one, trying with a electric hair cutter, to have 1mm hair left, caused by my hair cut device. I was busy with the final touch, that little plastic thing (you have different sizes) felt down, and I stood there, with hair on both sides and just in the middle no more hair. (I love to sing CSN'song: I almost cut my hair

I believe that MARTIN, and some other brands like FENDER and GIBSON are part of our
"collective memory." I agree 100% with a Harley, why a HARLEY, there are probably better motorcycles. I compare it, in a 100% similar way with COCA-COLA, PEPSI-COLA, DR PEPPER.
Or McDonalds, BURGERKING.
I am not comparing a Martin with a cheese burger, it's just to place these guitars as a part of our COLLECTIVE MEMORY. Like the Beatles, Byrds, a certain moment everyone wanted a Rickenbacker. Take JIMI HENDRIX = JIMI FENDERIX (nice new word, I love it) and there is still a kind of mistery surrounding these brands. ASK 100 people to name 1 guitar, you will see all these brands returning.
And some people still live with the idea that they will be better players using Gibson, or Martin. About the story of "case" I love that story, it is so typical, a "cliché" DO YOU KNOW WHAT GUITAR IS IN THAT CASE? Be aware I am a fantastic guitar player...

DUNLOP rules. I tried a lot of picks, Gibson, Martin, Fender, they are all somewhere in my house. BUT my Dunlops: never got a bad experience

Well Slash, why do we live? Isqn't it weird to be born and to make a constation that from the moment you are born, the countdown starts. It's probably an idiot answer. I should ask you WHY DO YOU PLAY? I saw your answer and ifI'm right you wrote that you don't have anything else to do.
Forgive me these  questions:
- How old are you?
- How long do you play- What do you play, acoustic/electric?, what style.
- On a scale of 100 (about playing guitar), how high do you think you are? 10, 30, 50...
- DO YOU ENJOY PLAYING GUITAR = THE ESSENCE OF YOUR QUESTION.
- Are you bored when you play, or are you really playing because you're bored?
Life can be so wonderful, and I do know what I'm talking about, because of all events in my life.
We love to play, and chordie is a great community, we try to pass knowledge and to learn, acquire knowledge. I really hope that your interesting question is more clear now.

Some more info: the String Master Robotic Guitar Tuner will actually tune your guitar for you
The String Master robotic guitar tuner is simply the most amazing guitar tuner ever invented. All you do is hold String Master on each tuning peg and pluck the string. String Master listens to the sound and its powerful gear motor actually turns the peg for you until that string is tuned to perfect pitch.
String Master is also the only guitar tuner that can re-string your guitar; automatically unwinding the old string and winding the new string with a push of a button.
In fact, these 2 websites I mentioned show us how to tune a guitar, but as JAY tells you can called a gimmick indeed, but a "super" gimmick. Just place the universal peg adjuster over the tuning key for the string you want to adjust and begin picking the string. the robotic tuner takes over, winding the peg until the string is tuned. COMMENTS AND REVIEWS ARE GREAT. BUT as told, it is a USEFUL GIMMICK. It looks so strange, "pluck a string and your string will be tuned exactly as you want. Even the best tuners, I use a FENDER ST-1 STAGE TUNER (10$ in a pawnshop) very accurate, but even when the string, like the A string is correct, it is difficult to tune the string 100% perfect, I still need to adjust a lot "by ear" to STRUM a perfect sounding chord. My second is a Korg, with a needle = analogue and I am not ashamed to tell that this "gimmick" is high on my list. I love gimmicks, but I hate guitars almost in tune, like a perfect C-chord, but playing a G-chord I need to corrcect sometimes by ear.

What is your opinion about an automatic guitar tuner?
As far as I could read this has to be a wonderful device. I know, there are a few categories of people who tune their guitar:
- by ear, and check the tuning like putting your finger on the 5th fret, on the E-string, to hear the same sound on your second string, third string...
- using devices. There are a lot of different tuning devices, Korg, Fender (I have this one, giving you the correct tone or "tuned string"by showing A or E, on a display.
- Using your effect processor, and even your amp.
PROS & CONS:
- By ear, some players are really skilled. I don't have a problem to tune a string by ear, it gets worse when every single string is out of tune. My "guitar buddy" is the "self-claimed" master in tuning a guitar by ear.He has 1 big problem: alcohol, and worse his attitude, a shield to hide his weakness = sarcastic, always claiming that what he tells is the truth and the only truth. It is sad rto see your friend "degenerating" more and more, throwing away so much, being one of the most intelligent people I know.(SORRY BUDDY).
- It seems that you can even use your phone, I believe the dial tone is an F. ARE THERE STILL PEOPLE USING THIS?
- Of course the tuning devices, 1 device, sensitive mics, and pretty accurate. OR all the build in tuners in floorboards, effect processors. PROBLEM: you need to plug in your electric guitar.
CONCLUSION=
I DON'T THINK THAT AN AUTOMATIC TUNER (see website) IS A BAD THING TO HAVE. The comments are very positive, you put it on, and you get the tuning you want. Comments are real positive.

James, I told you alreaddy that I am a VERY LAZY man (even before my crash). It has to go the easy way, I followed music class in 1973, and left after 1 month. I HATE TECHNICAL STUFF, reading how to use it, that's already a problem. I hope to change this. On the other hand, I learned some nice stuff on YOUTUBE, just search: guitar lessons.

Yes, I am now more convinced. A "fender amp, 15W, is loud enough to hear yourself playing, without disturbing the others.
Do you remember my topic about expensive guitars = better players? I am 100% convinced that this statement is true, EXCEPT if you are 12-16 years old. Playing at very young age: the concept is different, but will end up in buying a big brand. Add school, University...these are factors causing some people putting their guitar on the attic.
BTW: I placed a 1Gb card in my Boss BR 600, so there is still hope to use it. ONE STRANGE FACT: is it normal that when I use this device, I play a lot worse? I play pretty good BUT using my boss, I play pretty bad. AM I ALONE?

If you are a new newbie, not an oldnewbie big_smile, what is your opinion about this concept?
LIKE

- Ibanez IJX121 Metal Guitar Jump start Package: electric guitar with hardtail bridge, 15W amplifier, headphones, electronic tuner, gig bag, guitar strap, picks, and an accessories pouch + instructional DVD, instruction book, and chord chart = $299.99
- Squier by Fender Stop Dreaming Start Playing SE Special Strat Pack With Squier SP-10 Amp 199$
- Squier by Fender Stop Dreaming, Start Playing Affinity Strat HSS with Bullet 150 DSP Amp 299$

Are this "packages" worth their money? Is the purpose, by including an amp, that you will NOT wait to long before you buy a stronger amp?
Basicly: is this a sales-trick? Or are they really good?
If you buy the squier itself, and a Line 6 Spider III 75 75W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp you pay 500$
What is your opinion guys

My first acoustic guitar was a YAMAHA FG-300. It's almost like a HUMMINGBIRD, some of the knobs to tune need to be replaced, I have a 4 string now, and THAT Yamaha is a damned good instrument.

About that FROG, this was done in the "pre-PC" and " the pre-easy information". My grandfather told me (at that time there were still a lot of frogs) that he and his friends used a straw, put it in the frog's a**; and than they started blowing, so he became at least twice the usual size, followed by a frog explosion. That's why I compared ED ROMAN www.edroman.com with a frog, and he will also never change into a prince by kissing him

Dear Maksatchordie.
Also a big welcome here.
The "practical problems"
- What kind of guitar?
- What brand?
- Which strings?
You are NOT alone asking these questions, and it should be a shame if you didn't ask these questions. I wrote several topics about good, decent and not that expensive guitars. I have more than time enough to search a lot.
About the "big brands", acoustic: GIBSON  MARTIN   TAYLOR, and electric: Fender, Gibson, somebody wrote why these brands? A very nice topic. We are blinded, and 99% of the guitar players love to have a Gibson or Fender, I compare it with Coca-Cola, many people try cheap Cola, but they turn back to Coca Cola. (STUPID COMPARISON)
My method (easy speaking, because I have a pretty great collection) is this:
- Visit an on line store: www.musiciansfriends.com  www.zzounds.com  www.music123.com.
- You will see so many different brands, and if you want an SG (Gibson, Epiphone) remember that some of these brands are affordable, Gibson has even a pretty good guitar: Gibson Melody Maker Dual Pickup Electric Guitar $379,95.
- I pick an online guitar, and my next step is, trying to have an idea about the sound, which is now real easy: www.youtube.com, and search for the guitar(s) you love. In 90% you will be able to hear it.
- Of course the best you can do is: go to a guitar store, play on it. Just remember, about a stratocaster, I read that they have 37!! stratocasters.
- Also what I should do is, not having enough money, or not knowing if I will continue playing, I would absolutely not pay the big $$$, some guitars between 100-200$
- Epiphone Les Paul Special II Electric Guitar = 169.99$
- Squier (belongs to Fender) = 144.99$
You will find a lot of information, visiting the online stores. BUT it is a real forrest, I told about the melody maker ($379) but also Gibson Faded SG Special (699$). ALSO: I look on ebay, you can buy hundreds of Gibsons, Fenders.
So, listen to our fellow chordians, but this how I try to choose a guitar, on line store-youtube and look to some of my topics.

I read that there are about 37 Fender stratocaster models. This is a reason for a "1 minute" silence. This is almost unbelievable. You enter a guitar store, and there they are.
- what is the purpose to produce so many strats?
- you see 10 stratocasters next to eachother, one with a 1200$ price, the next 1150$, another 1500$, it is very confusing.
WORSE:
- The stratocaster is probably the most copied model on earth.
Some examples
- Behringer
- Squier (THIS IS A GENUINE AND OFFICIAL CHEAP FENDER)
- G&L, MUSICMAN, but they are Fender related.
- Jay Turser: JT-300M DB
- Fernandes Retrorocket X-1 Guitar
- Titan
AND A LOT MORE.
Who can add other NON Fender stratocasters here?

(1 replies, posted in Acoustic)

As I mentioned www.youtube.com is THE source to find a lot, I mean really a lot of videos concerning an acoustic guitar, and to compare them. If you look for guitar lessons, you'll find a lot, from acoustic blues, rock, and "how to play" a song.
I like to mention that concerning acoustic guitars, the top brands (1500$ and more) use almost the same woods.
Taylor, Martin, use a lot similar wood resulting in a "difficult to choose" situation.
- solution = enter a guitar store and try them.
- I still prefer the 100% pure acoustic sound = without an acoustic amp.
- About OVATION = am I right if I tell that when you play this "model" it isn't easy to play it while you sit, AND the sound is "weaker", NOT BAD, even great, but this is a typical electro-acoustic guitar.
The big 3 acoustics, GIBSON, MARTIN, TAYLOR, in the higher price-range, are more similar, see woods used.
BUT WHAT MAKES THE DIFFERENCE?
- BRACING?
- NECK? = here are some different woods used
TAKAMINE = starting to be more and more expensive, and also "earning" a place. Where is the time that takamine wasn't expensive?

WOW, Jay thanks man. Isn't it nice a site like this? I saw many sites, BUT NEVER like CHORDIE.
Can you imagine how many "active" members are here? The NUMBER tells us enough, and DON'T FORGET, it's all about playing music, (most for guitar players) AND comparing this with similar sites, and a LIMITED range= guitar, songs.. it is like a dream. On 100.000 people how many would play guitar? 10.000 - 20.000 is my guess. Every single chordian contributes his/her knowledge, skill, wonderful, it's like a big family. I went seeing other sites, last topic and answer inn 2005.
Thanks for the link.
To END: who played a TOKAI (the 100% Gibson copy), the rumour is that TOKAI is very good and they are even "COLLECTED", resulting in a high price.

Thanks again BOOT, I told you, and now in public: I TRUST AND APPRECIATE what you write. Your answers are to the point, and very "educative."
We had already several discussions about WHY GIBSON, FENDER, MARTIN?
I know a few people who changed ELECTRONICS, by buying an Epihone, the add some GIBSON humbuckers, same for squier. I DON'T BLAME IT, these players don't have the money OR don't want to spend 2000$ for a Gibson LP standard. These people are often those who ask the question about why GIBSON....
In extreme cases, they buy a GIBSON neck (there are a lot of people, and certain on Ebay, selling parts, like necks, Humbuckers, coils). I once bought a "CHINESE GIBSON" you can see the difference, especially the head stock (different shape, but similar). The guitar arrived here, knowing that it was a CHINESE, and guess what: the looks were great, magnificent top, and within a month, an acquaintance MUST HAVE THAT GIBSON, knowing that it was a CHINESE copy. This guitar didn't sound bad, except for the huge feedback. So that guy bought my FAKESON LP CUSTOM purpose? Every one could see he played on a GIBSON. People are like that, he was so happy, and me too (€€€ benefit), he changed the pick-ups and placed EMG pick-ups. That guitar had improved, and sounded great.
I've been in many countries, and there you can see a lot of curiosities. In INDIA: changing money on the streets, but 75% are counting so fast and they cheat you, also the PHILIPPINES, my brother, now in Dubai, told me unbelievable stories. He was really clever and smart, changing money on the street, not giving 1€ before the money was correct (it's illegal)and being married with a Philippine girl, he had serious contacts. He bought a house, for 50% less than if he should have changed his money on a bank.
Wherever you go, it's a WORLDWIDE problem FAKE PRODUCTS, I even heard that this business is more LUCRATIVE than drugs.

This topic is interesting: WHY? It allows you to find AND hear at least 50% songs, where some You tubers, explain and show TO TEACH, how you can play (an example = Jimi HENDRIX's version of HEY JOE.
I am trying to put all the INTERESTING links in a NEW MAP. A lot of songs are used as HOW TO PLAY ...
I really hope we can at least "co-operate" to find songs that everybody loves to play. There are song "examples" enough, but SHARING IT, or use a link CAN BE VERY HELPFUL, who doesn't want to play "that particular" song. It takes time to find some great songs, and even more to learn some of the biggest intros, like HEY JOE.
