I have only bought one guitar on line and it two was a Breedlove. I already owned a Breedlove before I bought it, and I was very familiar with the brand. Although I never played the model I was purchasing I was confident about the name. It was a high end model and I felt that if the seller purchased it originally , then he must know how to take care of it. So I wasnt worried about physical damage or wear. He packaged it and shipped it properly. I even took it to a local Luthier to get set up, and he looked it over, played it and handed back to me and told me he wouldnt do a thing to it. He said he didnt want to take my money for doing nothing, it played beautifully. I was lucky I guess, But I do agree that you should at least be familiar with the model guitar youre buying on line. Don't get me wrong, Ive heard my fair share of horror stories as well. Keep us posted and let us know how you make out. Happy hunting.

Glad to see youre still taking your time Pete. Half the fun is in the research.

I attended the ordination of a friend tonight.  It's heartwarming when good things happen to good people.  Anyway, the music was good too.  It was a soft rock trio doing updated versions of hymns and worship songs.  Good stuff.

Souds like a great time Zurf. I just came back from a three day youth retreat for our church. My two sons and myself played praise and worship tunes for the group all weekend long. It was an awsome experiance!

Not my cup of tea, but you did ask me to be honest. First off, I give you high praise for posting it for everyone. I have never recorded myself, so for that I say good job. The strumming pattern(and there is one on his recording) is not even close. I agree with soccerbrit, slow it down and get it right before you try and speed it up.

I'm going to a guitar show in November with some cash, I'll let you know when I get back.

There is only one answer here, "Breedlove" I don't mean to step on anyones toes but I have two and I wouldn't have spent my money on anything else!!!!!

Nicely done, good job!

I recorded myself singing and playing the other day and when I played it back I couldn't believe how terrible it sounded to me. I told my wife I probably should not be talking much less singing with this voice but she said it did not sound bad. Apparently most people do not like the sound of their voice when they first hear it. Has anyone had any experience with this and if so how long does it take to adjust to the sound of your voice. Will I ever know what other people hear when I sing?

My playing is bad enough, I really can't afford to throw my bad singing in the mix!

Bad move Steve!!!!!!!

Agreed, I have an 8 year old daughter that is also a big Taylor Swift fan. I hope she can continue to be a good roll model and not go off the deep end like the others.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck, Ian.  How far is it to a large city?  Maybe you and your son should have a day out and a little travel.  Maybe call some shops in the larger cities to see if they have some left handed guitars first.  It would be well worth the trip, I am sure.  And a little bonding with your son for a day.  On the other hand, I have bought two guitars ont he internet.  I generally don't do that, but if you really research some good brands and find out how people like them, you might find something nice for a better price.  I know it is a chance you take, but After lots of research, I found some nice guitars that I didn't get to play before purchasing.  Just some ideas.  Good luck to you

I bought one off the internet as well. I was very lucky to have such a posative experiance. I knew the brand and model I wanted before i bought it. I dont know if you can do that without knowing what you want. Good luck, keep us posted.

I think if worked at home next to my guitars, I would never get any work done.

I just read at this site that GCEA tuning the G is one octave lower.  Does that help?  And it says find books for tenor banjo, which is tuned the same way.  Good luck.

Kid next door came over and announced, " I have a guitar." I told him to go get it. He returned with a Wal-Mart special First Act cardboard p.o.s. guitar shaped object. I restrung it for him with some of my less-rusted backup strings, tuned it up and sent him home to play it for mom and dad.
His parents later told me he broke it over his sister's head. A fitting end for a tool that could never satisfy. A proper guitar might have killed the poor girl.

For anybody who's looking for a cheap walmart guitar. Please, just go to a store like Guitar Center or something like that and you will find plenty of good starter acoustic guitars for not much more then you pay for the Walmart version.

Hey Longboarder, love your post. I have a couple of really nice guitars, but I also have my Ibanez that I paid about $350. for new. It plays great, and I love to pick it up often.

After seeing Rhett Miller of the Old 97's play solo acoustic live I was amazed that one person could produce the same type of high energy that the entire band does.

Rhett Miller is my guitar inspiration. I have only been learning for about a little over a year and a half and I have a long way to go.

I come to this forum seeking advice and help(a lot). I do not know any other guitar players to bounce things off so it is helpful to toss a question or two out here and read the kind words of reply.

If you could please, watch this video and help me break down what he is doing. His strumming pattern is crazy to me but to more advanced players it may not seem so. Are there any little tricks he is doing to get that sound besides playing like a madman? Your thoughts and experienced guitar playing advice is appreciated.

Nope! you are correct, he is strumming like a madman. There is a method to his madness though, He is holding a distinct strum pattern. Not enough time in the day to break it down.

How come some song books I see on Chordie hold more than 100 songs, and I can only store 100 max?

First time I ever heard of Chris Gaines, thanks Zurf.

Good luck on your run. Sorry I can't help you, but I'm one of those Beer swigging, burger eating, guitar playing Chordians. Maybe you would get more help from another forum, like Runners forum.com, or maybe, I blew out my knees .com.
