Peatle you are a true poet, of that there is no doubt! You are also an artist. If I had to categorise you, you'd have to fall somewhere between Warhol and Lou Reed. Well done my friend.

You must feel guilty as hell? Yeh right. There's an American saying....never give a sucker an even break... which is true, cos if you hadn't got them someone else would have. At least with you they've gone to a good home. Great bargain hunting, well done.

as usual your thoughts are quite dark and revealing, and of course well written. i particularly like the first four lines, i don't really want to remember my break up, but that year between leaving her and meeting Ann were exhausting and i felt rubbish for using all those young (and not so young) ladies. make the most of your free time.

Re: Time Speed (6 replies, posted in Poems)
I have to agree with TF, and your good self Peatle, time fly's by as you get older. The run up to Christmas seemed to take forever when I was a pre teenager. Now it seems it's October one minute and January the next.
In my mind I still feel 30, in my body my true age...68 in a few months, and they'll fly by!
So, a great poem and song, gets people thinking and remembering, always a good sign.

sounds even more poignant than the reading. your voice lends itself so well to this kind of song, almost Willy Nelson, and the guitar is just right.
i'm so jealous. and impressed

Get that amp up to 13, if it don't feed back it ain't up loud enough. Your words strike a chord with me too! Going through my first marriage break up gave me my lost week end that lasted about 9 months, no drugs just birds and booze and lots of gigs!

Re: Waiting on the Snow to Fall (14 replies, posted in Songwriting)
That's a great song Jeff. just reading through and imagining how the chords play and how the melody line sounds, it sounds nice and easy. If you've still got a few moments while the snow holds the outside world at bay, a recording would be nice?

Re: SOME OF US (4 replies, posted in Poems)
as i read through i could imagine it as a rock song. it has very, almost Shakespearean imagery. i'd like to hear it put to music too. a great poem all the same.

Re: MY "Auld Lang Syne" (5 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
we have a thing called "tinsel and turkey" which is basically a couple of nights at a hotel where they pretend it's Christmas and new years eve, starting in December, so as i've do several each year i've already sung old lang syne 4 or 5 times in the last month, so i'm sick of it and all those Christmas songs. i've never sen the film you mention, so i shall look it up. happy new year to you and Dondra xxx ( the kisses for Dondra not you)

Re: Overcoming songwriters block (7 replies, posted in Songwriting)
it was said some time ago that every song would have been written by the year 2000 so nothing can be completely original. there is only one key cos the other eleven are just repeats of it played up the scale (or down?) to me it's the words you write and the feel you put into a song that defines it. as i hinted, there's only 4 basic chords in any key plus their derivatives eg; 6ths, 7ths, 9ths diminished or augmented etc, majors and minors. the rest is all you...and you do it so well. happy new year to you and your family

Re: Overcoming songwriters block (7 replies, posted in Songwriting)
To be honest, at the moment I'm trying not to write songs. I'm noticing that they're all beginning to sound the same! I also seem to be going round in circles with topics; love, hate, war, cruel partners etc even guitar songs. So I'm just jotting down notes that come into my head, usually on the same sheet of paper till they write themselves, of course a nice guitar lick or chord progression helps too.

Brilliant insight, made me stop and think, remember too. One of my closest friends of recent years died and also a family member I grew up with. I've made new friends and learned of their personal tragedies.
I've also had some good times with family on holiday and yesterday learning that I can't drink as much as I used to...no hum, Christmas comes but once a year....thank God!
Like you Peatle, I like quiet moments, that's why I get up early, check Chordie out for spam and great chats and great literary works like this. Power to your biro, may your ink never run dry.

Roger
I love that quote Roger.
I have no problem with synthesisers as long as they're actually played by a musician in effect the cheap way of having an orchestra on stage with you. But you can't beat a live drummer and bassist, a good guitarist and last but not least...at least two persons that can step up to the Mike and hammer out a song.
A perfect show? A four or five piece with multiple singers playing rock, country and ballads...live of course!

Re: Music We Like & Music We Don't ... Why? (21 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
it's funny because i was watching a post on youtube this morning with a guy giving it large over modern (?) music(?) and music from the 70's and he played a few examples of modern stuff using three or four chords repeated over and over then songs by the carpenters, pink floyd etc. someone replied by pointing out the 70's blight of punk...styles change don't they? i still listen to my beatles, jethro tull, yes, genesis, supertramp to name but a few. i turn off any music that has rap in it and "dance music" where the drum machine goes on for a week till a bass riff taken from another recording comes in and that plays for another fortnight on a loop?
there are some good examples of up to date music, most of those have "real" musicians playing on them....few and far between i'm afraid. maybe that's why i like country rock these days?
