Badeye   cool cool

I wonder... if you are born on Canada Day, like me, can you get free beer in Canada? That should be the rule or at least for that day (at least in my opinion).  smile

This is just a song about missing kids. I didn’t realize the importance of visiting my parents when I was young and first left home during my military days.  I wish I could make it up to my old man now but he’s gone. Another life lesson learned a bit too late.

Just a song about getting back up after the bad breaks life gives you.

The Life Game By Jeff Gilpin

June 19th, 2009

Verse 1

[C]There are times in [F]our life time

When [C]we have to set some things a [G]side

[C]Things that to us were second [F]nature

[C]Get dropped off in the [G]middle of the [C]ride

[F]We’re never ready to give up

[G]Things that sure can make our heart beat [Am]fast

[F]But life goes on there’s no right or wrong

[G]Pick up the pieces give the die another cast

Verse 2

[C]I once had a dog by the name of [F]Crystal

[C]Always lit up when I came into the [G]room

[C]Still makes me smile just to [F]think of her

[C]Even though her [G]life ended too [C]soon

[F]We’re never ready to give up

[G]Friends that manage to make our heart beat [Am]fast

[F]But life goes on no right or wrong

[G]Pick up the pieces give the die another cast

Verse 3

[C]Mom and Dad were always so [F]happy

The [C]anchor for our happy [G]home

[C]One day while I was [F]off at school

[C]Something went [G]terribly [C]wrong

[F]We’re never ready to give up

[G]All the things that we think will always [Am]last

[F]But life goes on no right or wrong

[G]Pick up the pieces give the die another cast

Verse 4

[C]Life is so [F]complex

[C]Just when you think you got it all figured [G]out

[C]The rules get changed in the [F]middle of the game

[C]It’s happened more [G]times than I can [C]count

[F]We’re never ready to give up

[G]All the things that make my heart beat [Am]fast

[F]But life goes on no right or wrong

[G]Pick up the pieces give the die another [Am]cast

[F]Life goes on as [G]long as you can [Am]last

Hey Phil and Kenny - Yep - a different world now. I'm not sure kids these days remember Cowboy movies. Well, old farts like us still remember. Thanks

I figured it out but I couldn't find anything other than the lyrics on the web. What a great song that is perfect for father's day.

Thanks Robert and Thanks Ken - I think I grew up in a simpler time where my imagination was free from distractions like computer games and millions of TV channels to watch. Still my dad sold it to me well. He wore cowboy boots until the day died...I have not taken to that style of footwear but I do respect it.

My Father grew up in Texas and he had a way of romanticizing cowboys and cowboy life so as a kid growing up that was what I wanted. But I grew up in the mountains of North Carolina and there wasn’t much call for cowboys there so that life never got started and the older I got the more difficult I realized the life of a real cowboy was. Still it was a nice dream for a boy and not a bad idea for a song.

Cowboy Dreams By Jeff Gilpin

June 15th, 2009

Verse 1

[E]When I was young I [A]wished I was a [E]cowboy

My [A]days in the [E]saddle [B7]night time under the stars

I was [E]sure I’d get good at [A]roping and riding in [E]no time

But as [B7]life turned out it [A]wasn’t in the [E]cards

[B7]Now I’m all grown up and [A]see through all the [E]glamour

A [B7]cowboy’s life’s a [D]harder life than [A]most

So I [B7]traded in my cowboy dreams for a [A]desk without a [E]saddle

At [B7]least a desk don’t [D]need a hitching [A]post [E]

Verse 2

I could [E]picture all those meals [A]eating round a [E]campfire

[A]Like in all those [E]movies that [B7]I watched while growing up

[E]I’d get my turn at [A]singing all them doggies [E]sleepy

[B7]Hoping that I [A]wouldn’t wake ‘em [E]up

[B7]I bet I’d get tired of that [A]camp food fairly [E]quick

[B7]Better fast-food [D]burgers on any [A]street

[B7]Beans and corn bread dinners [A]day after day after [E]day

[B7]Except when a cow [D]died we’d get some [A]meat [E]

Verse 3

Still I [E]don’t want to forget[A]dreams from my [E]childhood

[A]How I pictured [E]cowboy life [B7]just a boy back then

I [E]couldn’t see a down side in a [A]life out on the [E]range

[B7]Wondering when [A]that life could be[E]gin

Yet [B7]that life never came don’t [A]think it ever [E]will

My [B7]tastes have changed from [D]when I was so [A]young

I like a [B7]roof over my head [A]it don’t let the [E]rain in

I [B7]guess my boyhood [D]dreams are all but [A]done…

yippee [A]ki yi yay get a[D]long little [A]doggies

get a[A]long little doggies yippee [E]ki yi [E7]yay

yippee [A]ki yi yay get a[D]long little [A]doggies

My [D]cowboy [E]dreams aren’t [D]gone [A]

Was a great time and having some of it captured for the whole world to see topped it.  Detman, I wish we got some more of your playing though and Zurf you had some great songs, even with your youngest hanging on you.  Can't wait for out next get together smile

How about Bad Company's Shooting Star http://www.chordie.com/chord.pere/www.x … g_star.txt

This one's not on chordie but I really like it. Just As and Ds, and you can't get much more simple than that: Lucinda Williams' People Talkin. Lyrics are out on the web some where as is the song from her World Without Tears album which I recommend.

I was messing around with chords tonight and I jarred a memory loose that I had to work out. It wasn't in the right key but it reminded me of a song and I tried to remember the words to... and finally got it...Breakfast in America. So, tonight I have been goofing around with that and Dreamer and Give a Little Bit. It was just a little trip for me to my past and I brought back some great songs. smile

Maybe because you stopped the accident, like the first time, but the "accident waiting to happen" still exists. It could happen again and chances are you won't be there when it does.  Can anything be done to slow cars down there or warn the people, including those young inattentative kids, if anything or anyone is coming? Maybe the pub owners could put up a sign to warn the people as well. Or maybe they could put up one of those rounded mirrors that shows both people and cars on either side what's ahead. It would sure save everyone a lot of grief in the long run I think and give everyone including you piece of mind.

Here's what I use for my chili:
For this recipe you are going to need a 4 quart pot. Like most competition chili recipes ingredients will be added in what is called drops. This recipe has 3 drops to it.
On the day before you plan on cooking the chili, brown 2 pounds of lean ground beef and drain all the grease off in a glass shaped like this “\/†.  On the day you cook the chili add the meat to the pot, add 1/5 of the fat (white ring around the top) and all the glutens (the jelly like substance in the bottom of the glass). Heat until the meat is sizzling. Adding the meat drippings, especially the glutens, will really make the meat much more tender and much more tasty. As for the fat, the fat adds taste but be miserly with the fat as too much fat gets your chili too greasy.
Now add one 14.5 ounce can of broth (beef or chicken or vegetable which ever you prefer) and one 8 ounce can of salt free tomato sauce, crushed tomatoes or tomato juice (v8 works too).
Now for the heart and soul of your chili: Add 3-6 (3 for milder to 6 for hotter..1-2 for the real wimps) types of pepper of your choice to the mixture (these just vary to taste but remember the hotter the pepper the hotter the chili so make what you want) and bring the mixture to a boil. When the boil starts add drop 1.
Drop 1:
2 cup finely minced white or yellow onions
2 cloves finely minced garlic (about 1/8 cup)
1 Tablespoon of Chili Powder (brand 1)
Cover the pot and reduce heat to simmer for 1 hour. Remove the pepper and crush the juice into the pot. Now its time to add Drop 2 to the pot.
Drop 2:
2-1/2 Tablespoons (brand 2) chili powder
2 Teaspoons cumin
1/2 Teaspoon black pepper
1/2 Teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 Cube beef bullion
1/2 Cube chicken bullion
1/2 Teaspoon Japanese seasoning fish soup base
1/2 Teaspoon honey
1/2 cup red wine
Continue boiling with lid on for 30 minutes. After boiling for the 30 minutes add the last drop.
Drop 3:
2 Teaspoons brand 3 Chili Powder
1 Teaspoon cumin seeds
Salt to taste
Cover it up and simmer for 15 minutes more and serve it up.

Thanks Daddy - Yep, I do miss them and wish they were here and I always wonder about weather I could have been a better parent. They turned out good though but it sure would be nice if they lived closer.

I haven't written much in a while so I thought I would see what I could come up with and this is it. This is just a song about missing kids and second guessing my parental history. I guess all parents go through when the kids leave home.

Can’t Go Back in Time By Jeff Gilpin

May 29th, 2009

[Am]Simple pleasures occupy my [G]mind

[F]I never would have [Am]guessed

[Am]What’s important now after [G]time

Al[F]lowed this restless spirit to come to [Am]rest

[F]Years of chasing momentary pleasures

[G]Countless days of doing what I [Am]pleased

[F]Now I let those bygones be bygones

[Am]Can’t go back in time shouldn’t [E]occupy my [E7]mind

Maybe [Am]little alterations would of make a [G]difference

Like [F]I’d be there instead of being a[Am]way

I’d [Am]get to see those moments not through [G]pictures

[F]Not much I can do about them to[Am]day

[F]Years of chasing momentary pleasures

[G]Countless days of doing what I [Am]pleased

[F]Now I let those bygones be bygones

[Am]Can’t go back in time shouldn’t [E]occupy my [E7]mind

[Am]Getting home from work I let the [G]dog out

[F]Let her enjoy some time out in the [Am]yard

I sit and [Am]pet her wondering how the [G]kids are

[F]Lordy growing old is getting [Am]hard

[F]Years of chasing momentary pleasures

[G]Countless days of doing what I [Am]pleased

[F]Now I let those bygones be bygones

[Am]Can’t go back in time shouldn’t [E]occupy my [E7]mind [Am]

Hey dfoskey - Yep, NC and Va are good to in their own way. Georgia makes me think of when I was a kid and visited a lot. Just a great musical state as well.

Hey Russ - It is a very friendly state and I wish I got to spend more time there.

Hey Red - I had the chance back in the day to get stationed there when I was in the USAF but some how ended up in Northern Virginia. I have a lot of respect for Augusta folk. I grew up in Asheville, NC and my parents worked at UNC-Asheville. Whenever we played Augusta College (in basketball) it was always a tough game that went down to the final minute of play. I hope you enjoy the song and if you like hear it I'll try and get a recording for you so you can hear it.
