Way to go, New Zealand! When you folk set out to do something, you really get 'er done, eh? Congratulations!

Thomas Leeb "Trickster" (original)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mf-2MlBGDVs
Just gonna let Mr. Leeb speak for himself about this one:
"This one is a LOT of fun to play, but definitely gave me headaches during the writing process. The thing never never did what I wanted it to, always had a mind of its own and resulted in more rewritten and thrown-away material than the last couple of ALBUMS combined. I couldn't really call it "pain in the butt", so I settled for "Trickster"... and hope you like it!"

Good to hear from you, Bill ... it's humbling to know that even in your time of grief, you are kind enough to check in with the rest of us. Much obliged, my friend! My dear wife and I are praying for you daily.

Shaun ...
Don't know if you're still checking in, but was wondering how you've made out finding the source of your volume drop troubles? Would love to hear how you solved it, as this becomes a great part of the knowledge base here, which all can learn from.

TF
I would love to be as talented as that... great guitar work.
Thanks for sharing
JIm
I certainly agree, TIG ... Gilmour's playing is soooo smooth, and his bending is delicious! Thanks for commenting!

I love the guitar work on this one TF and the engineering mixing etc. Reminded me of the Echo's album.
I've needed some inspiration lately and this is the best thanks for posting.
Also The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway is one of my all time doubles. Fantastic music and imagery it's Genesis at their best IMHO.
ark
So good to hear from you, Arkady!
I actually thought of you when I was listening to this, as it carries a lot of similarities to your own fantastic work. And I agree that "The Lamb" was an amazing achievement, but I don't I think could pick a favorite album from the "And Then There Were Five" era ... they're all captivating. Despite their creative differences, the Hackett / Rutherford / Gabriel / Collins / Banks version of Genesis was really quite special.

Topic: Dang, That There's Sharp (4 replies, posted in Poems)
I was up early and goofing around with some rock-a-billy chords, and thought of some words that might go with them ... just for fun. This may be a song one day, but it's a poem for now:
DANG, THAT THERE'S SHARP
'Member that guitar in the window …
'Member thinking I should have one …
'Member wondering what it would cost …
'Member frowning at the price …
'Member looking for a bargain …
'Member hoping for a deal …
'Member wishing I could own one …
'Member thinking … dang, that there's sharp.
'Member plugging it in that first time …
'Member it gliding through the wood …
'Member smiling at my own work …
'Member it working like it should …
'Member looking away for a moment …
'Member the pain in my hand …
'Member wishing I'd been careful …
'Member thinking … dang, that there's sharp.
'Member the first time I sang it …
'Member noticing the frowns …
'Member it not sounding right …
'Member it hurting my own ears …
'Member how I might get better …
'Member what I might do …
'Member wincing at my bad notes …
'Member thinking … dang, that there's sharp.
'Member the first time I saw her …
'Member the tummy flips inside …
'Member the pulse rate increasing …
'Member the losing sense of time …
'Member the first time we spoke …
'Member the first time we kissed …
'Member loving her for ever …
'Member thinking … dang, that there's sharp.
If anyone wants to have a go at it, please be my guest.

Excellent! Great question, and great answer.
I'd never thought to store favs on my own PC, but certainly can see the practical sense to do so. I know we sometimes tend to gripe about legalities, but they are in place to protect musicians and their livelihood ... and that's important.
Terrific info, Doug (as always).

Interesting playing, and he certainly uses the open tuning very well. He also looks like he could be defensive lineman on a pro football team ... big man.

I dont know about this series but I can vouch for the Xavier line. We have had one that Cade has played and I took to Chordie stock, its very good.
Thanks, Beamer ...
I know you've mentioned these guys before (as have a few other Chordians) and everyone speaks well of them. I believe Russell Harding has "tricked out" a few of them with some of his custom mods, and also likes them. I wish our dollar values weren't so far apart ... would love to try one.

Re: History of Rock (6 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Okay ... I'll bite with my own subjective assessment. No mention is made of the Classical Music influence in this chart, which is a big part of Prog Rock. Nor does the chart mention Celtic, Asian, Middle Eastern, African, or South American music. We hear those influences in a lot of rock music, and they are quite distinct from Country, Blues, and Jazz.

Good point about the exchange, JGREEN ...
Just for laughs, I started an order at GFS to see how much it would be:
Guitar: $ 329.00
Freight: $ 135.85
===============
TOTAL: $ 464.85 US$
When converted to CDN$, it comes off at $ 615.72 ! And this is before taxes, customs brokerage, and duties ... yikes !!! It was only a few years ago and our currencies were on par. When I ran the numbers, my finger came off the trigger in a hurry.

Hi T F. Sorry to pile my troubles on everyone but I been missing due to my partner developing a serious disease and eventually passing away. In fact for a few months I haven't even picked up a guitar. Anyway that's all behind me now and I hope to be back to normal a,s,a,p.
So sorry to hear this, KIR, and I apologize if my original post caused painful memories to stir. My sincere condolences for your loss ... hopefully you find your song again soon.

Re: Making First Classical Guitar (19 replies, posted in Acoustic)
CG ... sounds like you had an interesting visit.
Interesting that you mention the bone nut / bridge. I had a Larrivee steel string, which came with Tusq components. The luthier I know (Matthew Lunn @ Lunn Guitars) suggested replacing them with bone, to increase the brightness a bit, as well as increasing the sustain. He has an ethical source for camel bone, which apparently is more consistent than most, so that's what he used. It's very hard, and when he dropped a piece on his countertop it made a tinkling sound like porcelain or glass. It did exactly as he described.
Funny how a couple of little parts can make such a big difference.

TF - why do you do this to me ? I want that zebra wood guitar soooooo bad now !!!
my wife will kill me if I buy it
My apologies, TIG ![]()
That zebra wood version is the one which caught my attention also. Perhaps we'll both stay more happily married if we treat this case of G.A.S. with some Tums. I've never played a guitar with that forearm bevel, but it probably would be a bit more comfy. Truth is, I just think it looks cool.

Without excusing the family canine, this is "doggone" good! Isn't great to wake up with the creativity flowing ... starts the day off right. Resilience is what keeps us from being controlled by life's circumstances.
Nice job, TIG ... thoroughly enjoyed it.

The activity in the Chordie Forums has been very subdued in the past few months, and I'm wondering if folk have moved on to other things. Haven't seen any NGDs from anyone in quite a while (where's JJJ?), very few gear discussions (guitars, strings, amps, etc.), and a lot less posts in general from a lot less people.
Miss y'all ...

If this doesn't give you G.A.S., I don't know what will!
Guitar Fetish recently launched a new series of acoustic guitars, made from less-common tonewoods. I don't know if any Chordians have played one of these, but it's almost worth the gamble to order one. They appear to be high quality instruments, are definitely gorgeous, and the pricing is incredible:

Gilmour / Wright / Pratt "Barn Jams" Sussex, 2007
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IjgS13vN9b0
Here's 15-minutes of beautiful "lay-back-and-chill-out" music. The scene is the carriage house barn on Gilmour's property in Sussex, England, which is something we'll all drool over and dream about. There are a few special moments, such as Gilmour playing drums, Phil Manzanera doing the engineering / recording, and the late Rick Wright on keyboards. The acoustics in here must be amazing ... kick back and enjoy!

Re: When You Look Up The Chords To A Song... (13 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
It seems I can remember all the chords to a song, or all of the lyrics ... but not at the same time. Unless it's something I've been playing for years, it's very helpful to have lyrics with chord markers over top, just so the aged memory banks don't blow a transistor or something. ![]()
