It happens with age and the best advice I can offer is to learn to love it. Some of the yellowing will be from the materials exposure to sunlight and some from the finish yellowing for the same reason. There's no economically viable way of fixing it...   I mean you could sand through the clear, remove the top layer of material, and then refinish but I'm sure you'll agree that it's too much trouble just for some yellowing. I actually like the look of some age on a guitar myself smile

I've discussed using UV inhibitors in the finish to prevent yellowing of the top and bindings with other luthiers and it's not a popular idea. Most people just seem to like the age to show on a guitar...  When I get a new guitar, one of the first things I do is start exposing it to the sun to go ahead and get some color on the top.... I don't like a bleached top look.

I agree with you Pix, I like the yellowing on my guitars. It's a costant reminder of how far I've come in my playing.

Playing with some one better is a great idea. Getting in a band, even for fun, since you won't make any $$ anyway is great fun and will help build your chops!

I couldn't agree more. playing with other people and following other instruments is the greatest learning tool out there.

I had my last guitar shipped to me from California, to the east coat. We both discussed the shipping proceedure before it went out. It was a high end Breedlove, and I would love to tell you how nervous I was the whole time in route. It arrived safe and sound. Never ship without doing some research first.

I think Mick and Keith have it the worst.

Hey Taylor, I guess my answer to your first question would be, I try to pick up my guitar everyday. Just alitte after dinner before I retire for the night. On Sundays I dedicate most of my day to sitting on the couch and playing. The answer to your second question is, I play whatever comes to me. Sometimes I pull out my book of my favorite songs(from chordie of course) and just play those or sometimes I just play from the song index in my head. I try to always work on my finger picking but most of the times I just strum through the song trying to pick up a note here or a note there. I like to find songs that add new chords to my list. A year ago I stayed away from bar chords like the plague, now I have opened up a whole new world of songs and bar chords are no longer a problem, actualy I prefer them over open chords. I have been playing with our church band for over a year now. I think that is the best practice of all. Playing with other people and other instruments has made a huge improvement on my playing. I still feel I have a long way to go, but as long as I'm consantly improving, them I'm happy.

Just my 2 cents, I'm assuming this is an acoustic without an under the saddle  pick up? If youre going make a shimm for the saddle, I have use electrical wire ties in the past, they make great shimms, and all you have to do is cut them to length, they fit right into the bridge. Keep us posted.

This may be a totally stupid question, but, can you use an electronic tuner to see what key your are singing in?  I am a very bad singer but i have trouble in actually deciding what key to play tunes in. Any one got any tips?

Hi, hopeful. I'm pretty sure I know what key I sing in, the WRONG ONE!!!!!

I use a capo in alot of my playing, and it's not so I can use easier chords, it's to change the key. Trust me if a capo was cheating, than power chords are REALY CHEATING!!!!!

Pete, all my guitars are above my playing ability. I know exactly what you mean about the itch, and trust me it doesn't go away not matter what guitar you buy. My last guitar purchase was so expensive my wife said she was ok with it as long as it was my last guitar purchase EVER! I had to have this guitar Pete, I was losing sleep over it. I fanaly bought it, it was the guitar of my dreams, and I thought I would never own a guitar this nice in my whole life. Not two months after I bought it, I started looking at other guitars. I still love my new guitar very much, but I have "THE ITCH". I don't dare tell my wife. I am a closet guitar-ahaulic.

Words and music, words and music. Thats what Eddy Wilson always said. I believe he was right!

Meh...i use electric guitar 10s (Ernie Ball) on my acoustic.
But I like the more mellow sound that it gives and they're a heck of a lot easier to play the blues on than acoustic strings and I can get my full bends and slides sounding right.
