Phill - after listening to this a 4th and 5th time - I have really come to like this song - it is really, really good !

At least two or three times during the song I got a little whisp of David Bowie in there.

If I were to be critical at all ( and I have absolutely no credentials to actually be critical)  I think the end of the song last two lines - where you go " mmmm - mmm"it sounded a little more "gruntish" than I would expect - kinda sounded grumpy  or mad -.... I was thinking it should be a little more like "woo hoo" or something -  a little more upbeat - excited about that that girl. ( although it is possible that you were emphasizing the fact that she was gone- I don't know!  smile  )
Again, other than that - I thought this was a masterpiece  !!!

Thanks Phil.

Jim

Bill

I loved it !
I agree - Joe Cocker bit was terrific - should've made a video so we could see if you had same moves as Joe!
Nice to see you join the show!

Phill

That was exceptionally marvelous.
Your voice changes, tempo changes, chord changes all were superbly dazzling.

Great song.

Thank you so much for the kind words.
I will put my version of  the song on  soundcloud  in a separate post.

I think it is a really pretty song - could be sung by either gender.
I wish I had a good voice that could do it justice.

Thanks again

I had this in my head last night and wrote the chorus.... and had nothing else !
Got up at 5:30  came downstairs - sat there looking out the window for about 20 minutes having a cup of coffee.
and then it the words just started fitting together.

This is what I ended up with....
Hope you like it

Close Your Eyes By Jim Kenyon

.

Verse 1

[G]There’s a wind that’s whistling, through the lonesome pines

I’m just[C] wondering where it’s been and what it[G] left down the line

[G]It reminds me of a love that once was in this heart of mine

Oh there ain’t[D] nothing quite as lonely as a [C]love that’s left be[G]hind

.

Verse 2

[G]A pretty sunset this evening, says it’s the end of the day

Oh it [C]makes me sad, there’s nothing I can [G] do to make it stay

[G]It reminds me of the night you left , I didn’t know what to say

Oh there ain’t [D]nothing quite as lonely as a [C]love that slips a[G]way

.

Chorus

[C]Close your eyes tonight, and [G]set yourself free

Oh[D] close your eyes tonight and tell me [C]what it is you [G]see

Please [C]close your eyes tonight, let your [G]mind fall back in time

oh [D]Close your eyes and tell me am I [C]ever on your [G]mind ?

.

Verse 3

[G]There’s a train in the valley, that’s rolling down the track

I can’t [C]tell where it’s heading , what it [G]carries or what it lacks

[G]It reminds me of a love that’s lost and slipped right through a crack

Yeah there ain’t [D] nothing quite as lonely as a [C]love you can’t get[G] back

.

Chorus

[C]Close your eyes tonight, and [G]set yourself free

Oh[D] close your eyes tonight and tell me [C]what it is you [G]see

Please [C]close your eyes tonight, let your [G]mind fall back in time

oh [D]Close your eyes and tell me am I [C]ever on your [G]mind ?

oh [D]Close your eyes and tell me am I [C]ever on your [G]mind ?

oh [D]Close your eyes and tell me am I [C]ever on your [G]mind ?

That was very good - loaded with good tunes.

Anyone hear anything about Badeye ?- hope all is well

Jeff

because of the post you made on Brian's song. I spent the evening enjoying listening to some TVZ, Guy Clark, Steve Earle, Rodney Crowell among othres - also watched a bit of the movie Heartworn Highways.
Steve Earle's son Justin Townes Earle is named after TVZ
Thanks for the motivation to travel down memory lane - I had a great evening
and Justin wrote a song called Christchurch Woman - about a woman in New Zealand !   Peatle and Brian and Jan - ever been to Christchurch ?   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jU1xL6rDAZI

Thanks again

Beamer

I absolutely agree with all the comments above !

In my mind I envision a " Metalizer " song that softly creates a mood, and then explodes to a crescendo of passion, a guitar solo that depicts confusion, and ends with softness of heartbreak, reflection, and healing.

I think this is most excellent.

I also am hopeful as I believe I am detecting a step forward for you in the healing process.

Best wishes my friend and I would love to hear a recording of this!

Well I finally got an hour of free time this morning so I thought I would record my song to post - one thing led to another - and I ended up adding a verse.

My recording of this pales compared to Jan's - she has such a magnificent voice.

I apologize for my singing and playing - it's really hard for me to play and sing at the same time - not being a musician.

any way here it is -

Nice one Phill

Lots of childhood memories come to mind

Imagination - the key to creativity - begins in a child - often gets stymied by the adult world

glad to see you've still got that spark !

Jim

I happen to come across this by chance. I only have ever heard of one Per   so I thought possibly it could be our guy !

Pretty fabulous !

Jets
This is the song as it is in my songbook.
You can see the bm chord - however - I don't bar it - just play the bottom three as shown.
I cannot figure out what that chord is actually called - maybe some one on here that actually knows music can tell me.
( Maybe it's not even a real chord - I don't know - it just sounds good to me)
hope it helps
