Many of you will seen, or heard, me mention the Algarve Rock Choir before well we had our first professional gig on Saturday at a 50th birthday party. We met at a coffee shop before the gig and gave the patrons a rendition on "Heart of Gold" and here is the result: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJ2Y9efikC4

I hope you like....

Roger

The vid was taken on an i-phone by someone who had not used one before and shot it as portrait instead of landscape but I managed to find software to rotate it. smile

Thanks for answering.  So how do you chose and use a strumming pattern?  Lets say given the example above, lets say you use 1/8 pattern of D - DU - UDU.  Do you just break this in half?

Is that the correct strumming pattern for this song?

In any case when learning a new song I think it is a big mistake to worry about strumming patterns. All you need to start is the basic 4 or 3 beats (for 4/4 and 3/4 respectively) to ensure you can sing the song and fit the chords in the right place. Once you can do that, you can get the strumming right. Trying to do everything all at once is a recipe for disaster unless you are very experienced.

Roger.

The chords are supposed to be placed where they come in with the lyrics and the number of beats does not come into it at all. You really need to know the song, or listen and play along to work out the duration of each chord.

Hi Johnny,

Go into your profile and click on change e-mail address. This should be easy enough to do but with the new server just being commissioned odd things do sometimes happen so let me know if you have any difficulties.

Sorry Home Sweet, the reply to Pondweed was intended to include you but I was pushed for time (as I am most mornings - {note to self} I must get up earier smile) so I did not realise I had omitted your name. Please write to Per explaining your difficulty.

My pet peeve is singers and actors being called an artist instead of an artiste (and before anyone points it out, I know that Chordie does it smile). Singers and actors have nothing at all to do with paints and canvass.

Cuteflute, there is a 100 song limit for each Songbook. If you are having other problems with your Songooks please contact Per as I advised Pondweed above.

Welcome to Chordie,

Chordie is a search engine which finds songs on the internet and to make searching for a song nice and easy. This particular song is hosted at http://www.guitaretab.com/ so perhaps you should contact them so it can be corrected at source.

I have reported this bug to Per, the site owner, for you and he will investigate it in due course.

Zurf, I was  singing one of the very few Shadows vocal numbers but probably know better as a Gary Benson song - "Don't Throw It All Away".

Earlier with Jeff and Pete I did "Value Her" an original by Phill Williams and I: "Meet Me On the Corner" - Lindisfarne and the C.C.R. number, "Have You ever Seen the Rain".

Roger

P.S.  Zurf, it was gone midnight and I desperately need my beauty sleep (don't forget that I have to look at my face in the mirror each morning) it was certainly not your singing that sent me away.

Hi Mark,

You need to be on Skype and then we get together in a conference video call and sing and play to each other. Unfortunately because there is a time lag it has to be on an individual basis and not a 'all join in jam'. However if you mute your microphone you can then play along with someone else.

The only drawback is that 18:00 Eastern is 23:00 with us, but is certainly is great fun and worth stopping up for.

My friend Richard (The 'Doc') has an Ovation 12er which is a very nice guitar (mind you I still prefer my 70's Melody) and as Jx3 says you do need something to stop it slipping whilst sat down which is the only drawback of the rounded, composite back. His keeps in tune well but has has a built-in tuner for when it is needed.

Pictures are needed please.

Roger

Yeah I miss the get together and Thursday is good for me.
