Isn' it nice to know and get an answer on the following fact:
HOW MANY CHORDIANS HERE, ARE:

1) Professionals in music (music teachers), luthiers, or working in a music store.
2) Who is a professional guitar player? Making $$$ and able to live by writing, performing
3) About "semi professionals", example, you have a nice job, earning 3000$ a month, and his second "job" is a musician having let's say 1 or 2 gigs in the week?
4) Amateurs, who have the passion and the possibility to show their skills on gigs.

Also: I was in 2003 in the USA, starting in Chicago, trying to follow ROUTE 66. I call this holiday: the "finding the blues holiday", (I also visit a lot of pawnshops) Chicago -> St Louis -> driving through Missouri and amazed that in a pawnshop, they speak with a Northern accent, followed by, driving 2 miles, in an other pawnshop, they speak with a southern accent. We were still in Missouri, so I continue --> Crossing the Mississippi --> Nashville --> Memphis --> New Orleans.
Why this story? I heard bands playing in "over" crowded bars, like in BB Kings club on Beale street or Nashville, at noon, a "lonesome player" playing great, and at night, impossible to tell what I heard and saw. Memphis & New Orleans: even better, fantastic bands, playing better than the most famous bands. If I come back: I would do the same. I never saw so many bands playing with passion and skilled, more than famous bands. We don't have this here in Europe.
So I would love to see answers on my 4 questions.

Hello Zurf, I have a MARSHALL AS100D acoustic amp. Having a few (2 only) electro acoustic guitars, I went on a day to a big guitar store. I followed their advise, told them that I liked the Marshall 50W and I DIDN'T WANT AT ALL A 100W amp. They "begged " me to compare it with the 100W, 1 chord, decision was made. It is a tube amp, and even if it's called acoustic, I started using the acoustic Marshall more and more using an electric guitar. WHY?
- You have an unbelievable sound, so pure and crystal clear. I tried all my electric guitars on this amp, and you know I have a lot of guitars, and I compared all these guitars on that amp. The BEST SOUNDING guitar on that amp: FENDER TELECASTER, PRS, EPIPHONE SHERATON. I even started to use effects, using a very little "box" TONE WORKS by Korg PANDORA PX4D, for electric guitars. There is another Pandora for acoustic guitars.
That little device has a lot to offer: a lot of amp types, a rhythm section and a lot more different effects. I learned a lot using the different rhythm patterns and it improved a lot my
"rhythm skills"playing always ALONE. It works real great this amp using electric guitars. THE ONLY THING I DON'T KNOW IS: PLAYING ELECTRIC ON A GREAT ACOUSTIC AMP (MARSHALL)
IS THE FACT IF IT WILL BE HARMLESS OR NOT. My opinion is no. THE BEST AMP EVER, is my Fender Cybertwin 130W (2x65) and a combination of tubes and digital modelling.
The amp is quit expensive, but you get a collection of mainly different Fender Amps, like Twin Reverb, Bassman ( a lot) and even more different effects, from metal to a clear sound.
It is all expensive and that's the problem. Line 6 is a lot cheaper and very good, it didn't exist when I bought the Cybertwin. The money? from the insurance companies, after my accident.

Goodnight to you last_rebel, and good morning here. A few months ago, I had 10 different facts, both serious and funny. I didn't write facts since a while, because I lost my source.
This is splendid, and I like this topic. What if you change the name in "SONGS ABOUT RAIN"?
resulting in the fact that we can create other topics like  Eyes songs, Heart songs, I love you songs. It's up to you, I just don't know what you think about is idea?
- Alabama Rain by Jim Croce
- Ashes, the Rain, and I by Joe Walsh or The James Gang
- Raindrops keep falling on my head.
- It's raining man (hallelujahahahahaha)
- About to Rain by Neil Young
- Baby Can You Stop the Rain by Luther Vandros
- Blinded by rainbows by the Rolling Stones (this song is from the album Voodoo lounge, and this song is just great. I think this is one of their best albums, my opinion has always been, that the so called Biggest Rock and Roll Band, are BETTER in ballads than rock, see Angie, Lady Jane, Ruby Tuesday, IT is maybe a to strong subjective opinion, I'll make it good by writing that songs like Satisfaction, Paint it black, Start me up are great. They still write great songs, but if you need to buy it as a collector or as a big fan, the whole album for 1 song. If not most people should download only 1 song.
- Change in the Weather by John Fogerty.
- 4 seasons in one day
- Weather with you both songs by Crowded House
- Begging for Rain by George Usher
- PURPLE RAIN by Price
- Crying in the Rain by a-Ha or Art Garfunkel
- A hard rain's gonna fall by Bwab Dylan
- Falling of the Rain by Billy Joel
- Have you ever seen the rain by CCR

rainman gave you a great link, I used it for a long time.
The best site is www.chordbook.com
It looks at first very similar to the other "chord" site, here you can take a chord and move the dots to find the most simple and complicated chords + extra's

I posted a similar topic, about the what is on your player today topic.
I adore that topic, and I added one about BRAND NEW Albums, with the intention to discuss or giving a quote to a "fresh" album, like the new John Fogerty.
First I wanted to tell that I write of course what album I am listening to.
I really don't know if this topic is useful, so I prefer to ask all of you if it is useful or not really useful. The real reason is that there is always a difference between the USA and Europe. Some people, like GARTH BROOKS are not real "big" in Europe.
Also, it is always surprising me that an album like one of the Rolling Stones, has sometimes 2 tracks more, or less, and also the track list is different. Like song 1: Satisfaction  2: Lady Jane, while in Japan or the States, you will find "satisfaction" on track 10 or even not at all. I had once a BIG book 500 pages, only about every single and every album recorded by the Stones+ prices.
Amazing how much money some people pay for a "slight" different version.

Hi Sumelton, I have again a topic to discuss, or having opinions about BRANDNEW albums. You have a great topic, mine is similar but probably more difficult, I try to judge brand new albums.
On my player this week: JOHN FOGERTY, with REVIVAL: probably the best he made.

I noticed already at least 100 times, that people dream about having an electric guitar, are blinded more if it's about electric guitars. BUT EVERY ELECTRIC GUITAR NEEDS AN AMP.
In a music store, I also go straight to the guitar department, with an attitude I HAVE AN AMAZING GUITAR, and I never thought about an amp. I don't know why, I never go to the amp section.
AMPS are compared to guitars UNDERESTIMATED.
What I did: going on eBay, I found there some very rare guitars, like the PRS EG serie, produced from 1990-1992, and I saw only one back again, with the price double compared to when I got them. Afraid: NO, because I love PRS. You have to be lucky too, more with acoustic guitars, but I accept the risk.
- Crate GTX212 with a lot of effects in it: 250$ 120W (A real nice price quality amp)
- Drive CD300 30W Guitar Combo Amp 90$ customer rating: not that good
- Ibanez TBX15R Tone Blaster 15W and 99,99$ and the comments NOT FOR A GIG, BUT FOR PRACTISING IN YOUR BEDROOM, same comment on the follow Fender 15R Frontman Series II, and also: if you turn the volume high: everything is distorted.
- Traynor TGM20 Guitar Mate 20 Combo 103$, SAME COMMENT.
- Fender Blem 25R Frontman Series II Guitar Combo 118$ SAME COMMENT Practise amp.
So far I found these amps, an always recurring comment is: good to very good to use it as practise amp BUT if you turn the volume in a real high position, it looks as if the amp controls you, distortion, bad sound.
I am afraid that a decent amp, to use at home and to use at gigs, and who is not THAT expensive, which is not really the proper word, will cost you between 250-500$ I know, a lot of chordians, more specific our youngsters don't have or like to spend 300$ but I am afraid that it will be difficult to find an amp that fits you, READY TO GIG, lower than 250$.
Using a lousy amp, because you have a lousy budget sounds to me that you will be really disappointed, certainly when you turn the volume higher providing you an ugly sound and this is the last thing we wan't to have playing your electric guitar in a gig.
A higher price class is needed.
- Peavey Bandit 112 Guitar Amplifier with TransTube Technology 380$ and 80W is one of the better amps AND good comments
- Ibanez MIMX65 MIMX 65W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp 350$, and some other amps and effects included
- Kustom Quad 65DFX 65W 1x12 300$ and good critics.
- Ibanez TBX65R Tone Blaster Xtreme Guitar Combo Amp 65W  260$ and good critics. There is also an Ibanez 65W 220$.
The last amp: Behringer V-Tone GMX210 Stereo Combo Amp 2x30w 200$ and can be used on stage.
I do hope that I could help some people, it took me more than an hour to search and write this topic. Probably there are other amps, but at least this gives you decent information and I worked hard to find all these stuff.
The only other alternative is: look on eBay.

I am going to open a topic for amps. Cheap and powerful. It also depends if you want to buy effects.
BUT I will add some more, who are probably a little bit more expensive.
I did the same with electric and acoustic guitars.
Where do you live? US or UK?
Deakon, if you want to do gigs, it is more difficult to find an amp. 30W I really don't know if this amp gives you enough power. Probably enough if you play in a bar, DON'T forget that a lot of people talk and if you use the full power, the sound will not be brilliant.
Are you so restricted in your budget?
To play in a decent way, you will probably need at least 50W.
A total different point is: when my daughter was 16, she wanted a motor bike, like a Scooter.
The price range was between 2000-3000€, I used 2500€ to see it in $$, it is equal to 3500$
Knowing that my ex drove her at school, and I picked her up, we were able to convince her that when she turned 18, she wanted a car. We, and thanks God, she too, are really glad that we were able to convince her to wait. Now she is driving a VOLKSWAGEN, and she is grateful that we waited, because once she had her drivers licence, she would never use a motor nike.
Why this story: if you are going to perform and things work out fine, which I do hope, is there a possibility to reconsider the problem with your budget? I don't want to know about your finances, I just want to help by giving you suggestions. An amp, you need at least 30W, can be perfect, and having a lot of guitars and amps, I really have a kind of personal opinion.
Sometimes it is better to wait, like having a friend who gives you his amp to use in a gig. Some people I know, use sometimes one of my guitars, like my Gibson Flying V, or my tele. I should start a business in providing and renting instruments.
IN FACT ALL AMPS BELOW 100$ ARE SO CALLED PRACTISE AMPS, in critics I read more than once that 30W is just enough to hear in a band, compared to the drummer). See the topic I am writing about cheap but more quality amps.

- Martha Reeves and the Vandellas (what is a vandella?)
- Hootie and the Blowfish.
Enjoy yourselfs here, with silly band names.

Upyerkilt, I love this one: The HALF NAKED SCOTS KILTS. Or just  THE PIPES.
The Romans tried to add a kind of mechanic table resulting in an organ, an ancestor of the big organs in Cathedrals.
Finding a name is not that easy if you want to take a name related with the band or the music you play: admit that names like "Alice in Chains" is a bit strange, even PROCOL HARUM is strange, and if you listen to their lyrics from "A WHITER SHADE OF PALE" they don't make sense.
I love things like that: you write a song using lyrics, even with words that don't exist, you will drive the critics mad, these guys try to explain what the song lyrics mean, and writing a song full of nonsense!!!!!!!!!!!????????????? real hard for them.

SouthPaw41L, this is where a Non US resident, like me, is loosing it.
Why: I don't know those guys. Never heard of them. If we talk about fingerpicking I just now Leo Kottke (is he still active)?
MORE X-FILE CASES: I was googling: great american fingerpicking guitar players, and I noticed the definition of fingerpicking,(did you know that this style was develloping originated in the late 1800s and early 1900s)? and here is the mystery: they mention something about an American Fingerpicking style, originated with John Fahey, whose first record album Blind Joe Death (1959) inspired many guitarists such as Leo Kottke, who made his debut recording of 6 and 12 String Guitar on Fahey's label called TAKOMA (source: wikipedia).
So I get confused. I believe to know 3 or 4 people: DOYLE DIKES, STEFAN GROSSMAN, LEO KOTTKE, TOMMY EMMANUEL(from Australia?), and some European, like HARRY SACKSIONI, in the Netherlands. But there is an always returning song: "CLASSICAL GAS". I love, adore fingerpicking, but playing 30 years, and able to say, that I became pretty good, using a silly style: 1 strum, blocking the strings, strumming again, using licks, riffs, difficult chords and fast switching between chords and now and then a few seconds fingerpicking. I was ask a couple of times to play in a band, as lead guitarist, but because  my physical condition: NO WAY JOSE.
I am flattered, I love playing, but even if I should play in a band, I can not stand for 5 minutes, sitting in the same position 10-15 minutes. A VERY IMPORTANT FACT: If you play at least with 2, better: in a band, I play twice as good. I don't know about you guys, about playing better with more people. THE FINGERPICKING STYLE: do you think that the very little practical knowledge can still be improved: because of playing YOUR similar since 30 years?
Are there sites where you can improve your guitar skills, or instruction DVD's?

06sc500 Why Gibson and/or Fender, the difference? I noticed that more and more people start to use a telecaster, this one AND NO EFFECTS FOR ALL OF THEM, has a crystal clear sound, and is used more and more in Rock and Blues, the stratocaster, has 3 single coils (some 2 coils and a humbucker), also giving a sound more clear than Gibson. Gibson, also NO EFFECTS, has a deeper sound, more bass. and very good for all kinds of music. About the SG, well listen to AC/DC.
A MUST: go to www.gibson.com and search for the humbuckers. You can listen to different humbuckers that Gibson uses.

I've paid attention the last 5 days, and strange enough, I played 6 minutes on a Gibson Flying V, faded, and compared to other Gibsons, cheap. I tuned the V, and tried it out (last time was long ago), a killer, but in my situation very difficult to play (I can not stand right for 2 minutes) and is there a kind of solution to play while I sit dawn?
Acoustic: 60 minutes. My best acoustic is the martin D-45V, but she has to be tuned a lot (caused by old strings), in fact I prefer the HD-28, she never lets me down, and the sound blows everything away. So, final conclusion: more acoustic. But as some people know, due to an accident, and being home for almost 3 years, still a fact that I don't accept, but since 1 September, I started to reorganise my live. There was a time that 09.00h was still the middle of the night for me, even when I went to sleep at 23.00. Now, when I open my eyes, my day starts. As usual, I don't eat, I have more a kind of Brunch between 12.30 and 14.00h, I start to see my email, followed by chordie, being on line 4-5 hours, and late in the afternoon.I rest more, watching a movie, BUT I HAVE TO AVOID THINKING ABOUT MY DAY, and while resting, it is also guitar time.
Playing acoustic: you hear every mistake, the style is more a J.Fogerty style using a lot of similar licks, like used in Susie Q, and I have to admit that my skills are improved a lot since chordie, I always find an answer on a lot of questions here. Playing electric with a Flying V, through a Cybertwin!!! Thank God that there are only 2 houses where I live, and the second is 100 metres from my house, so Cyber on 4, is already to loud, but it works fine when I feel bad.

Yordo, nice to meet you.
This an always "coming back" problem. Do you need a teacher? If I was younger and I could play about 10 chords, it might be really interesting to follow for some time a guitar course.
You see, my biggest problem was and still is: I didn't and don't like studying music, and now I have the opportunity, I still don't go.
I play about 30 years now, and since a few months, with the help of chordie, and the fact that my best friend, who is a drummer in fact but also really good in playing guitar, teached me a lot. I am able to play a kind of lead/rhythm guitar, using licks, riffs and a few seconds solo, and my drummer friend teached me a lot: KEEPING THE RHYTHM, and also not to play as if you have a cramp in your wrist. Have some videos, learned a lot about scales on chordie, and in my case the problem, learning to play with a teacher, can be difficult because I am too used to play the guitar using my style. I am also able to play within a minute, with a lot of songs on CD.
But I am still open to follow private guitar courses. Is there a fellow chordian who has the same problem? Playing since years and having developed an own style?
I tried to follow 10 videos recorded by professionals, it helped me a little. If I could go back in time, I would probably follow guitar class. So my question is:
WHO HAS A SIMILAR PROBLEM, AND WOULD IT BE STILL INTERESTING TO FOLLOW CLASS?

It is related to the topic: Which Album is on your plaayer this week player, but is is not exactly the same. It is very related.
So why this topic?
We are all possessed by music, so I thought to "reopen"  the topic about the brand new albums and spread over 1-2 months. So from half September 'till now.
I do hope that "chordians" can talk and discuss about a brandnew album.

Next to the album, I will put "stars" from 0-10

JOHN FOGERTY "REVIVAL"          *********
It is an album, in my opinion, the closest to CCR, he ever made: swamp blues, country, folk, soul and rock (even some country music jazz gospel together on "the river is waiting'. It is like he is closing a "nasty period" after one of the most stupid things ever occurred in music record industry, (the other was Michael Jackson having the rights of Beatles-songs): no rights on his songs on the Fantasy label followed by trials. The funny thing is that he signed again a contract with Fantasy (impossible if he didn' get a phenomenal contract) 1 song on the album is track 3: creedence song (an amazing persiflage of the old CCR songs, and the Album title is REVIVAL. To hear it go to amazon.com. IT IS ONE OF THE BEST ALBUMS THIS YEAR, IF NOT THE BEST, especially for CCR fans and giving the opportunity to our young chordians, to find out, why all "the retired" people loved that band.
It is far the best album, softer voice and the "real familiar catchy tunes) ALREADY A CLASSIC for me.

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN MAGIC     ********
An album with the E street band (do I hear the soprano's?) and probably his best album since THE RIVER, but did "the boss" make bad albums? Probably yes, but there are always some good songs on it. Magic is more the BRUCE we know, a PROBABLY CLASSIC ALBUM

MARK KNOPFLER: KILL TO GET CRIMSON ******
My opinion: a typical Knopfler album, and to see that he is not really "creating" albums, because when I listen to thealbums Golden heart and Shangri La. He made some incredibly good albums like LOCAL HERO, LAST EXIT TO BROOKLYN, SAILING TO PHILADELPHIA, more used as a soundtrack. You will find some of the most beautiful songs, he is even able to write "classic music"  songs. My mother, who has a beautiful voice (close to opera) and ANTI modern songs, really loved some songs on the 3 albums.
After hearing the songs, I do not find an original song at all. He is repeating himself. I admit that a man like Mark Knopfler, who is very busy, writing songs ( probably one of the most busiest songwriters) will keep his style: never change a winning team. One thing: the way he plays guitar (do I hear JJ Cale) is different. Less Dire Straits guitar. All by all, it is a nice album, but definitely not original, and too "Knopflerish"

YOU REMARKS, COMMENTS ON THESE ALBUMS AND DISCUSSING NEW ALBUMS ARE MORE THAN WELCOME.
THIS TOPIC IS CREATED TO HEAR AND TALK ABOUT NEW ALBUMS, TO HEAR WHAT OUR YOUNGER "CHORDIANS" LIKE, AND AN ATTEMPT TO LEARN FROM EACH OTHER

James, is it possible that you have telepathic abilities? I swear that I have a song titled the anti ant anthem, because I adore playing with words.
Weird.
Nice tune, but 1 question, we tried, you, guitarpix and me this song. Probably the 3 versions are different in style, about the song.

Boot, my fellow chordian, who are you  such a genius (THIS is the proper word) if we discuss about guitars.
I have 1 Epiphone, Sheraton, giving me an inccredible sound, but what about the humbuckers? They give me a decent sound, but is it possible that they give too much feedback?
What sound would I get, replacing these humbuckers by Gibson humbuckers, more specific 1957 classic humbuckers or burstbuckers. The Sheraton looks like a Gibson 335.
Another thing is that you are able, to fool a lot of people, to replace the Epiphone neck and out a gibson neck? I am pretty shure that those things happen.
I wrote another topic about "woods". Will a different kind of wood change the sound the sound.
I know you told me a lot about wood used, but will a human ear hear the difference between Brazilian Rosewood and Indian Rosewood? Same with spruce, I think I read somewhere that they use "German" spruce
Thanks a lot

Alvee, you are right. Saw him playing in such away that he seems to become one with his guitar.
I confess that I play now for 30 years, since always at home, I play a lot, and I am proud today seeing and feeling my progression, I even play really good (people told me) using a pick, or and my fingers and a pick. But watching that guy, I like to burn my guitars.
I never heard about him, is he popular in the States?
It is horrible to compare myself with him. I am petrified.

Jerome, now you mentioned the TELECASTER I noticed that more and more people use this guitar?
I have a special Telecaster, California Beach, custom shop, a reissue of the 1952 model.
She's "pistache" green, and only available in limited quantities.
There was also 1 (maybe 2) stratocaster reissues. The colour is the same as the colours used in 1952, to colour a car.
This telecaster was ONLY for the European market (and will also be probably) an expensive guitar in 10 years. I admire the simplicity and the sound, but the neck is for me more difficult to play.
I am a huge PRS man, having 3 different models, talking of a PRS EG. you have one with 3 coils (Lindy Fralin) in domino shape, all single coils (s) to try to have a piece on the Stratocaster market. The 2nd: s-s-h(umbucker) and the 3th h-s-h, all original US guitars. It is really weird, I CAN'T FIND ANY OF THEM on eBay since months. Two of them were produced from 1990 to 1992, except for 1, 1994. The EG with dominoes sounds far better than a Stratocaster, but the problem was: who heard, or knew PRS in 1990? Now they produce again the s-s-s as a PRS SE.
A PRS can be used real good to create that sound.
What about the Epiphone Sheraton? A killer, and one of my best guitars.
Cytania, I know what you mean, but has Behringer also a kind of programmed effects? I am able to reproduce almost everything, using my Fender Cybertwin, an amazing pearl of an amp.
Line 6 amps are real good, it's 100% digital, and the cybertwin 130 watt is a combination of tubes and electronics, also considered as one of the best amps. This is far the most amazing amp, and the tubes make him still superior compared to other multifunctional amps.
I never heard about Brawley.

Moddish, 7 years ago, I had a Mahogany Martin with a beautiful soft and sweet tone, I had also a HD-28, that one blows you away. The 28 was Martin, the other Martine, because it was a SHE.
Check it inside your guitar, if you don't see a p**, it has to be a she.

Recently we discussed about changing strings. Well, in my case, having a Martin D-45V, the 3th string is getting out of tune almost always after playing 1 or 2 songs. The string is starting to give an annoying metal sound, so probably this is the moment to change.
I found some weeks ago Martin strings (more than 5 years old) and enough to change the strings of 4 guitars .
Best strings? I stick to Martin, d'Addario, but I would like to try once Elixir.
