Justinguitar.com is a good one.  Marty Schwartz's page is a good one too.  guitarjamz.com   Erich Andreas also has good on-line lessons.  I can't remember the name of his site right now for some reason.

If you like old time country and folk music, there are a number of specialized sites for that.  Google is your friend.

There's a bit of difficulty getting to the campground.  I just received these country directions for alternate access from the campground owner:

[start of excerpt]
About three weeks ago we had a 20 car train derailment at my crossing.  They are working to replace the crossing but we are currently unable to use it and have been using my right of way through the bottom.

Directions are as follows:  Go past my crossing into Meadow Creek. When you see the church
bear left and cross two different sets of RR tracks. It will appear that you are driving down to the river, turn left on S.Riverside Road. Continue on the gravel road until you see a house with a swing set and children's toys .  At that point you will
see a red gate, bear left and follow the RR (parallel) along for 50 or so feet. Bear right
and continue along the gravel and dirt road. On your right will be the new National Parks Campground
which is under construction.

I was worried about the New.  If the Greenbrier is 4X usual August flow, that must mean that it's actually flowing.  No rain predicted for the next several days.  Hopefully that will be true upstream as well and allow the river to come down some.

Yes.  It's still on.

I replied to your e-mails.  No idea why they didn't get through.  I didn't get a message back.

Some friends and I are gathering in Meadow Creek, WV to memorialize the life of our friend Alvin Pugh.

Alvin had a tremendous bass voice and loved country gospel music, rivers, and fishing for bass (among many other things).  He could sing all night long, and often did.  At Riverchase Lodge and Campground a group of us who knew Al are coming together on his birthday weekend to fish, paddle, and sing.  You are invited. It doesn't matter whether you knew Al, if you like fishing and picking and campfire music, you'll fit in.

The campground fee is $40 for the weekend or any portion thereof.  Thursday to Sunday.  Campers are not allowed, only tents.  Pop-ups count as tents.  No dogs.

Come and join us.

Congrats DE!  I think it's awesome, but I agree with Paul.  You should have been a finalist!

As a buyer, I found that when the deals had one comma that we had all sorts of squirrelly sales people who wanted to make me feel as if I was right while thinking I was a moron based on how they treated me.  By the time the deals has a couple more zeros but still only one comma, the sales folks decided to bust hump and didn't care what I thought about them so long as I cut the order.  When the deals got to two commas and lots of zeros, it was understood by everyone on both sides that there was too much money at stake and too many moving parts for anyone to be presumed right.

It took me a long time to catch on to that one too Jim.  I read an article in Acoustic Guitar that dealt with switching between cowboy chords and barre chords that was invaluable.

BGD - You ought to try a bench vise instead of having to lop off your arm like that.  Doesn't that make it hard to hold the guitar?

I sit on a padded bar stool with a back on it at my desk.

It wasn't for a guitar. My uncle is in the plastics business.

Well there's the problem.  Your uncle should sell guitars.

The Great Pumpkin is a figure from the Peanuts comic strip.  It's associated with bringing candy on Halloween much like the Easter Bunny brings candy at Easter.

That's a long labor!

I have gotten so used to my GPS reminding me of exits and turns that when my GPS died, I got lost going to and from a place that I know well.  Once off course, I was clueless about how to get back on course and just had to turn around.  Sad.  Very sad.

I ordered a new GPS today.   lol   I'm laughing at myself.

Two people who are living the way they want to. I think the would-be customer is foolish for walking away from a good deal on a guitar because your uncle is willing to utter the 'G' word.

I have a Samsung 10" tablet and use the Ultimate Guitar app for songs. I haven't diddled around with downloading songs to a text editor or .pdf reader, but there are programs that come pre-loaded that read them.

If someone wants an exact sheet, they need to pay for a licensed book and let the original artists earn a living.  I liken the chords and tabs to folks sitting around in a really huge living room showing one another informally how they've arranged a song for their own performance.  Anyone wanting exact reproduction of a record is chasing a will-o-the-wisp anyway. A single guitar and single voice is unlikely to be able to reproduce an entire band. For instance, I often strum to the main drum beat rather than to the way the acoustic guitarist on the record played. I find rhythm more evocative than harmonized guitar lines for playing alone. Tabs and chord charts just can't do that for you.

Further, I am one of those people who thinks that if you want to hear a precise replica of a song, play it on Youtube or iPod. Musicians SHOULD bring something of their own to the table when performing a cover. Again, that is something tabs and chord charts can't provide.

Well done.

No, I never considered their music to be heavy metal either.  I think that it's been jokingly described as Heavy Metal Flute music because folks liked the double meaning and it stuck.

I did an 1-1/2 hour solo set last night at a charity function, sitting on a stool the whole time.

An hour and a half on a bar stool is just warming up for you. I've seen you play five or six hours a night several nights in a row and barely repeat anything.
