I wrote this a while back for a project I was working on with a friend of mine on SoundCloud. He worked on the remix while the lyrics, music, vocals, and acoustic guitar are mine. I will post both the original and final remix once he gives me the go-ahead. Here it i for those who want to give it a ride. It's a kind of a do wopp song that's around 104 bpm at 4/4 time.

[C]Back to those yesterdays

[Am]Does not feel all that long

[F]Even though the years have ticked on [G]by

[C]Like a kind of time machine

[Am]Stole my days back then

[F]Time I can’t get back although I [G]try [G7]

~

I wrote this as a poem a little bit ago but finally put it to music. https://soundcloud.com/jets60/playing-t … s-me-down/

Playing Townes Gets Me Down Jeff Gilpin

~

Intro Dm7

~

Playing [Dm7]Townes Gets Me Down

But [Dm7]I still play his songs

Something a[F]bout them tugs my heartstrings

Leaves me [C]feeling twice as strong

~

This old [Dm7]world makes me weary

[Dm7]All the stuff going on

So I es[F]cape some to his music

And [C]suddenly all my weariness is [Dm7]gone

~

Now I [G]know his voice is not for [Dm7]everyone

For [C]some I know it might have too much [Dm7]twang

But [G]he just talks to me through the [Dm7]words that he wrote

That’s [F]why I go back [C]again and again

~

He [Dm7]wrote about love and life

And [Dm7]all the in-betweens

Things I [F]think on, but his guitar

Drives his [C]words home or so it seems

~

So playing [Dm7]Towens may get me down

But it [Dm7]helps me ease my pain

Not [F]quite as much as he went through

But I [C]kind of understand just the [Dm7]same

~

Jim's post in the Chat Forum got me thinking about Ukraine, specifically the young innocent collateral damaged children and what they are going through. Hopefully, they will make it through but here is a song about my thoughts on that subject. - https://soundcloud.com/jets60/simple-things

Simple Things Jeff Gilpin

[C]Don’t really [G]think a[F]bout

[C]Not really [G]worth a [F]whisper

Like [C]turning [G]on the [F]water

[C]Turning [G]off the [F]light

[C]Checking [G]all my [F]messages

[C]Wondering what I [G]might

~

[C]Do with[G]out the [F]simple things

[C]But I have [G]lived so [F]long

[C]Both good [G]years and [F]bad

[C]Mostly [G]filled with [F]happiness

But [Am]kids are waking [Em]up today

[Am]Far away from [Em]me

[Am]Unsure of any [Em]future or

[Am]What tomorrow will [Em]bring

[Am]Nothing they can [Em]do about it

[Am]Just try to stay a[Em]live

[Am]Keep on moving [Em]forward and

[Am]Hoping they [Em]survive with[G]out

[C]All of [G]life’s ne[F]cessities

That [C]I don’t [G]think u[F]pon

I [C]guess they’ll [G]have [F]to adjust

[C]Just keep going [G]on

Hey Jim - I don't usually post stuff here, but here is what I have been up to. Mostly work, and then I come back home where I try and keep my wife entertained but not to the point of irritation. I do feel bad about the Ukraine situation and I hope it can be resolved soon and peacefully; I'm not very optimistic about that happening though. We're hopefully going on a hike later today and maybe I'll play some after we get back. I hope you're doing well.

Thanks, Jim - I'm still trying to figure out what music I would use. Hopefully, I'll come up with something sometime.

Just something I notices about myself this morning that got me wondering. I might make it into a song but for now a poem it is.

Playing Townes Gets Me Down

Playing Townes Gets Me Down
But I still play his songs
Something about them tugs my heartstrings
Leaves me feeling twice as strong

This old world makes me weary
All the stuff going on
So I escape some to his music
And suddenly weariness is gone

Now I know his voice is not for everyone
For some I know it might have too much twang
But he just talks to me through the words that he wrote
That’s why I go back again and again

He wrote about love and life
And all the in-between
Things I think on, but his guitar
Drives his words home or so it seems

So playing Towens may get me down
But it helps me ease my pain
Not quite as much as he went through
But I kind of understand just the same

Congratulations Jim! I hope to be there with you in the near future.

Thanks, Pete - I meant to get it recorded this weekend but never got it quite how I wanted it to sound. I'll keep trying.

No reason at all. smile

Thanks, you two - Phill I play it fairly fast but not too fast since there are a lot of words to get in.

I started writing this years ago and finished this morning. I will try and get a recording up soon.

It Takes a Lot to Love a Good Woman Jeff Gilpin

bluesy 4/4 time

Intro Picking E

[E]Met my baby years ago though it seems like yesterday

I didn’t know it at the time that she’d [E7] swept my heart away

Took a [A]lot of hard work to win her heart but I’m [A7] glad I finally know

It takes a [E]lot to love a good woman but [E7] nothing to let her go

Yeah, it takes a [B7]lot to love a good woman but [B7] nothing to let her go [A] [A7] [E]

~

[E]Bumps and curves and dips in the road I sure have seen my share

Seemed difficult at the times but [E7] not too tough to bear

When you’ve [A]made it through the hard times, I [A7] guess it goes to show

It takes a [E]lot to love a good woman but [E7] nothing to let her go

Yeah, it takes a [B7]lot to love a good woman but [B7] nothing to let her go [A] [A7] [E] [E7]

~

Bridge

Now if [A]you do nothing for your woman, expect her to [A7]do it all for you

You’re [E]setting yourself up for a beheading or a [E7] fall that you’ll rue

You [A]don’t have to wait on her hand and foot it’s [A7] little things that mostly matter

[B7] Thoughtful actions go a long, long way much [A7] longer than words that flatter

~

Solo on verse chords

~

I am [E]thankful I’ve learned my lessons on the matters of the heart

Bit of a rocky road at first but [E7] now we’ll never part

Like [A]broke in shoes you wear outside on [A7] sunny days or snow

It takes a [E]lot to love a good woman but [E7] nothing to let her go

Yeah, it takes a [B7]lot to love a good woman but [B7] nothing to let her go [A] [A7] [E7]

Hey Brian - I enjoyed that. I'm really relaxed to the sound. I can't quite make out the lyrics but I enjoyed the sound of your singing too. Matches your music.

Thanks, Phill - For now, I'm just reclining in my comfy chair in my cozy warm house, on a cool January day. I was singing to snowflakes that day if memory serves. Thanks for the warm image to look forward to, not so far off in the future.

[F]Why does it seem

Some [C]strings like to

[D]Stray a little [D7]out

[G]Kind of like me

[D]I can fall

[C]Into a bit of a funk

Hey Phill

Thanks. I'm glad you liked it. It is a bit different from my normal songs, but it fit the mood I was in at the time.

Thanks, you all.
Brian - Understand, I didn't think I forced it rhyme-wise but I can see how you thought so. As you say, I'll keep it up.
Pete - I think you play and sing just fine. I do have a lot of love for her. I'm lucky
Phill - Very true - domestic day to day for the lucky married folk. Hopefully your PC will be able to play it.

Hey Phill,

No worries. I'll leave it up for now. I record it usually so people can understand how to play it, or at least how I play it. I think Brian might be talking about my strumming. I decided not to fingerpick this one so it will be a little different from my usual songs.
