I have one or two progressions in mind but till then big_smile

V1
suck it up baby and don’t say a word
It’s about that dollar and not what you’ve heard
Be true to yourself you will do no wrong
Be true to yourself and sing your own song

Ch:
Momma used to tell me don’t you drink all night
The only thing you will see is the morning light
Hangovers don’t pay the rent,
The only thing  you will see is the bills they have sent.

V2
There will be friends that that
use you and then toss you away
And friends you keep
and you take them to the grave

Ch:
Momma used to tell me don’t you drink all night
The only thing you will see is the morning light
Hangovers don’t pay the rent,
The only thing  you will see is the bills they have sent.

V3
Family is family like it or not
They’re there when you need
An that says a lot
There when you need them
An that says a lot

Ch:
Momma used to tell me don’t you drink all night
The only thing you will see is the morning light
Hangovers don’t pay the rent,
The only thing  you will see is the bills they have sent.

V4.
Life can end in the blink of an eye
Blown to bits or lightening from a blue sky.
Hug your daughter and hug your sons
Tell them that you love them and
you are proud of who they have become

I LIKE IT!   and the progression is basic!  heck my song Standing over my grave is primarily  E D and C built something close to this.

I defiantly am going to have a go at this! Not this weekend,  I'm one tracking on my song,, but this is gonna be good!

maybe try it this way and see how ya like it? Its what Im gonna play with. (WE SHALL METALIZE IT)

Play it in power chords and Root 5. Dial in some dirt big_smile

A5   x 0 2 x x x
E5    0 2 x x x x
B7  x 2 4 2 4 2
Maybe see if the b7M would give it a nice  sound?
Bm7  x x x 4 3 5  or 7 5 7 7 x x
Or just play the root 5
x 2 4 x x x

This is heavy rock and roll big_smile palm muting and some chugging/chunking.  (see you tube if you don’t know how to do this)

Thanks guys! Isn't it great how being pissed off can contribute so much to your creativity?

Music is in work.  Sonbeam and I were hashing it out last night.  I think we will brake it down into structured parts going fwd. im thinking something like

V 1 / FILL / V 2 / RIFF-1 / C / V3  / BRIDGE  / V4  / C / V5 / C / C > >> END

BTW be looking for a new member. Though not a guitarist, he wants to participate and start submitting songs and poetry. His user name .... Wait for it ... SONBEAM.
(Thanks to whoever it was that initially started calling him that big_smile )  I helped him get signed up last night.  So hopefully he will put his greeting in the general chat box soon.

Here is a"scratch"  section that has verse, fill and what should be the bridge.  I sooo need a bass player!!!

This is a great topic.
Ken you and I have talked a little on this.  I will start by saying your choices in the IF ALIVE section have all perfect choices.  I would add: Chuck Berry, Jim Morrison and Harry Chapen.   While with CB, its not Technically complicated, his lyrics had great hooks and good vibe and kept you on the floor and everyone still knows  JBG, and Maybellene.  Jim  did not compose music (that was Ray Manzarek) but his poetry was amazing to me. Chapen and Denver were my bedtime story tellers.

I guess when It comes to my particular songwriting,  I vary between Chapen and the darker side of the scale of Morrison and heavier rock composers. This would be a melting pot of many, however they seem to also go back to the Sabbath doom metal origins. (heavy fuzzed blues).

STANDING OVER MY GRAVE
Lyrics written 2-15-21
Tuning:  Drop C#  (Db)
  C# G# C#F# A# D#
(Db Ab Db Gb Bb Eb)

Primarily in E if tuned to standard.

V1
From the time that I was 10,
I discovered how to be a friend.
To stand by you,
When no one wanted to come through

(FILL)

V2
We fought, as most friends do
But no one could touch us,
We were super glue >>>>
No matter what - we –went – through

(RIFF 1)

Chorus:
When you’re standing over my grave
                              (And you shed those tears)
And they say that prayer,
(Do not let them fall on me)

I am not the one who forgot about you
                                      (I was always your friend)
And I was one who always cared

V3
There were some fair-weather friends,
No harm came from them,
The brothers and sisters I did find -
Became blood the same as mine!

(BRIDGE)

V4
So as you think on the past,
remember how it went so fast.
So as you think on the past,
Why did our friendship end?

Chorus:
When you’re standing over my grave
                              (And you shed those tears)
And they say that prayer,
(Do not let them fall on me)

I am not the one who forgot about you
                                      (I was always your friend)
And I was one who always cared

V5
If you’re out there and you do not care,
I say I apologize. I apologize
My eyes are closed forever more
So now I cry, yes I’ll cry some more.

(RIFF)

Chorus: x2

Stepping into something,
You might not understand
Stepping into something,
Where there is no upper hand

I’ll show you fantasy,
Some things you have never done
I’ll show you extasy
But dont try to touch the sun

OH.  I.  Can’t Give you my heart.
OH.  I.  Can’t.
    (Give you my – heart.)

Don’t go that direction
It will push me away!

OH.  I.  Can’t Give you my heart.
OH.  I.  Can’t.
    (Give you my – heart.)

Take  what is offered,
Lets get high.
Ill take you flying
and I’ll let you cry

We both lost a lover
But not the same kind,
I cant fill them shoes
Dont make me try

OH.  I.  Can’t Give you my heart.
OH.  I.  Can’t.
    (Give you my – heart.)

Don’t go that direction
It will push me away!

First off, thank for the shout-out on this one guys. you know me!  Jim I like all this and yes I think i can Metalize and punk it up quite well!  I have a friday night project now big_smile

I will give it a definate go! right up my ally!  Im reading this in Bm or Am . Im hearing a possible DropC# and very heavy hints of Iron Maiden style vocals.

weith your chorus relating to nightmare,  there is a song NIGHTMARE by Avenged 7 Fold, I think you might like it. Its not super heavy and its got a great groove.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zci2ilhf4UE  I did the lyrics version for ya.

Ok here it is.

My son has agreed (FINALLY) to be my drummer in Dissonant Chaos.  It took another musician to say the right thing that triggered him.
I have a virtural friend that I will hopefully meet over brake is a bass player in a hard core punk band.  He saw a vid I posted on FB of Cory and I doing SEAGULL on YouTube.  He complimented the way my son and I gelled.
asked why he wasnt my regular drummer.  I explained that prior to being 18 he felt that the age dispairit y was too weird.
so i will script the way it went.

Rafa: "Sounds good man, Kid should be your drummer"
me:  "he thinks its weird, if he is the youngest"
Rafa "You guys overthink too much, our band is 47,43,40,and 32.  Whats age other than a number and life experiences?  ITS ROCK AND ROLL MAN.  You guys sound good together so you should stick together.  Music is about chemistry as well"

show this to Cory,,,,,,

Cory replys:" Tell him I apriciate it!! And that I agree with what he said too"

Upon hearing that, Dad is like "REALLY? Does this mean you will finally be my drummer?"

He said yes, but had some concerns and I  told him "You do YOU. Keep playing with your friends, Just remember I will be open to ideas, but I cant play the way you want me to play like your new bands. So it goes both ways, accept my style and limitations, and just give me your best, and ill be open to your ideas if I can make them work"

So im pretty happy.  Still need to tell Toni she has been replaced, but i think she wont mind (she has not even made an effort to jam isnce feb! - but she will drive almost 2 hours to jam with her old band? (an they suck smh)  I need to still find a bass player and a singer.

The Lessons have helped some, but some stuff requires real talent on a voice.

With all this said, I worked 2.5 hours on one of my hardest songs to play. Not only that,  im fighting mussel memory, I repositioned a part and it keeps throwing me.

So I stopped to watch LAUGH IN season 1!

SOCK IT TO ME, SOCK IT TO ME, SOCK IT TO ME!

This is not finished.
Exploring the Jekyll & Hyde side of personalities.  inspired by:divorice, BLM, Stupidity, and the songs by FFDP, and Kiss (2 sides of the coin).   Its still in work. but this came out in 10 min.

Standing At the gate,
Should I participate?
A crowd full of hate
Wound up in lies, yet no one tries!

Which way do I go?
I am troubled so.
You see the anger and distrust,
The ceiling is about to bust.

Im standing at the gate,
I feel the anger and the heat.
Staying calm on the outside,
My fire burns, and yet I hide.

Dare me to stand in the path!
Hear me now as I spew my wrath!
You never know it to meet me,
Its that side you are lucky to never see!

I love my kids and I love life,
Yet the monster lurks inside
You never know he is there
I look like I just don’t care.

Next thing you know,
The button is pushed,
Someone got the cut in
The ambush begins.

Dare me to stand in the path!
Hear me now as I spew my wrath!
You never know it to meet me,
Its that side you are lucky to never see!

BREATH
Scott “Beamer” Sailer
11/30/2020

(1)
All you know just changed.
When did it happen?
Where did we become estranged?
How was I to know?

(Chorus)
In and out of this world
In and out of this life
Makes ya want to curl up
Make ya want to yell
WHAT IS THIS, HELL?!

(2)
Trying to find that new lover
Are there any left to discover?
Not so easy when not so young
Are you a creep or are you fun?

(Chorus)
In and out of this world
In and out of this life
Makes ya want to curl up
Make ya want to yell
WHAT IS THIS, HELL?!

(Bridge)
Breath baby breath
It’s just another day
Breath baby breath
It’s going to be ok

Repeat all.
End with the bridge or last chorus depending on mood.

Feel the music, and the musk in the air
her soft complexion and long black hair
red leather boots over skin tight jeans
starts a feaver, with no vaccine

Dancing in darkness,  we feel desire
so euphoric, it take us higher
shes a good girl as far as it goes
Where this will take her she dont know

Tempratures rising, theres no comproming
minds goes empty , we’re loosing control
Working our bodies, it must be done,
we try to fight it but the passion has wone

Lust unfolds in the heat of the night
Can we be wrong? does this end tonight?
Biting her lip as nails dig home
Closing our eyes we let fantasy roam

Tempratures rising, theres no comproming
minds goes empty , we’re loosing control
Working our bodies, it must be done,
we try to fight it but the passion has wone

Winners and losers, turn the pages of my life
W're beggers and choosers, with all the struggles and the strife
I got no reason to turn my head and look the other way
we're good and we're evil, which one will I be today?

There's saints and sinners
Life's a gamble and you might lose
There's cowards and heroes
Both have been known now to break the rules
there's lovers and haters
The strong and the weak will have their day
We're devils and angels
Which one will I be today?

Great story, rough song to make jangle.  IMHO, if there is a way to be less "wordy"  as i tend to have to rewrite a lot of stuff to take out to many words.  Thats just me though.

Storys are great, but working them into a song is much tougher.

some of this comes from how I feel today and the rest, maybe understanding what can drive a person to go postal or suicideal. its open to how anyone wants to relate to it.

Hands to head
Did you wake up,
Feeling dead?

Stretch your body
It still feels numb
Tell yourself don’t touch that gun
Won’t fix anything, it’s really dumb

What can you say?
Go on auto-pilot

Can’t feel the sunshine, don’t see the light
Only feels good closing your eyes tight
Can you feel it?
Don’t give up the fight

Go on auto-pilot
Get through your day

Stretch your body

Recorded at Nashville's Blackbird Studio (as was the main album) the more cleaned up version of this record.

This is an older vid and mini doc. but this shows how talented a very heavy band is. these guys are soo good
the regular sound of the band is heavier than most of the Chordie crowd likes but I know you all will like this.
