I purchased a 12 string a year ago.  (TAKAMINE EF381SC)  This is the best sounding guitar in the world!! There are very few song that are 12 string only therfore i dont play it as often as my six string however when i do play it sounds awsome.  It is real nice to play when you have someone that plays a six string along with you, as you might have read in the other comments they compliment each other nicely.  So what I'm trying to say is that if you got spare cash floating around BUY IT however you will find yuorself not playing as often as you originnally thought..

I know its not one of the options But a TAKAMINE (made in Japan) (not Chine or Korea or USA) Is my favorite. The cleanest sound PLUGGED or UNPLUGGED

I also started playing in JUNE of 2006 and I now have 5 Guitars, Yamaha FS720 ,  Yamaha CPX700 (ACOUSTIC ELECTRIC), Takamine 381sc (12 string), Gitano Classical and a PRS Standard SE (ELECTRIC) .  However the best sounding one is the Takamine and the one that is most fun AND EASIEST to play is my CPX 700 YAMAHA.

Good luck Shopping

I aggree with moddish taking lessons are the way to go.  This keeps you from getting into bad habits that couold cause problems further down the road I pay 17.50 $ Canadian per 1/2 hr  lesson and it has been worth every penny!

As long as you can afford it I would take lessons.  If money is a problem there are lots of online places such <a href="ashttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYfYE7XX00Y&mode=related&search=" target="_blank"> ashttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYfYE7XX00Y&mode=relate d&search=</a>

Happy practicing

1/2  1/8   1/16   These are just the tempo of the songs eg:1/2 time

they can be broken down to these four simple segments 1/4 time, 2/4 time, 3/4 timeand 4/4 timing..

EG: Kenny rogers The gambler   D chord  Bass note then down up bass note down up

G chord  Bass note then down up bass note down up

D chord  Bass note then down up bass note down up

This is a 4/4 timing Should sound somrthing like bass down up , bass down up

3/4 is like Willie Nelson or Anne Murray  Bass Down Down

The most popular strumming patern is DOWN,DOWN, UP, UP, DOWN......

To pratice just ry the G Chord and says it out loud ,,DOWN,DOWN, UP, UP, DOWN......

Then try swithching to an Em with the same patern the C then D

This will give you LAST KISS BY PEARL JAM enjoy
