"Na een lang dag van val en opstaan, begin hy weer sy vrou te mishandel nadat hy as 'n kind mishandel is"

' After a long day of falling and getting up. he abused his wife because he was abused a s a child, himself"

He got smashed, and proceeded to beat the hell  out of his wife. Charming...

I think this about 90% correct.
Hello Doc,
Ek hoop jy voel goed vandag en het 'n rustige nag gehad. En nou gaan ek ophou afrikaans praat want ander mense kan ons nie verstaan nie en dis seker ongeskik!

Thank you. thank you, thank you we won!!! I was hoping it would be either SA or Scotland ( I always scream for Scotland when the boks aren't playing). Just one down side though....these bloody keys are extremly loud today...now where did I put those headache tablets again...YES BOKKE!!!!

Hi Doc,
Actually I've been In the Pilanesberg park all day today and for most of this week I will be there too. I am sunburnt but happy!
I am busy filming wetland birds for a research program that is underway. So I've been sitting in hides all day at watering holes and dams. (U can now say thank u God for all the wonderful rain that we've had these last few days.) Most of the dams are getting full and even the hippos are smiling.
Other than that I've gotten some spectacular lightning footage from a storm over Pilanesberg last night. I'll email u some shots.
Insurance companies are like the tax man...dammed if u do, dammed if u don't!

Hi Doc,
First, CONGRATULATIONS!!! I see u r an administrator now.
I don't know about US music being influenced by euro music but I can tell u that the music in SA is influenced majorly by american music.
Rap is now quite big but the local musos took it added a qwaito rythm and now it's called township rap.
Check out singers like Mandoza and Madikizolo on any SA music site.
We also have artists like Karen Zoid who plays rock like u've never heard!!!
Then there's Ladysmith black mambaza...beautiful, just beautiful.
I think most music gets influenced by american music because the money that goes into albums there is astronomical compared to most places. If there's one thing that the yanks know how to do and do right is market their talents!

Sounds like South Africa...We produce petrol in Sasolburg and export to our neighbouring countries. Here we pay R7 for a litre and in Botswana we can buy our petrol for two rand less.
Of course a decent 4x4 costs in the region of 1/2 a million and our roads are so crappy that you have to ride one or you could always pay for new shocks everytime you ride to the cafe.
A decent guitar will set you back about R3000, a good one about R5000 and I don't know what a great one costs because I'm too scared of heart failure to ask.
And I had a very good meal the other day...it only cost R600...amazing how much better fish and chips tastes when they call it fillet and sauted potatoes...
Just out of interest though the exchange rate is 14 rand to a pound.

Hi  Sweet Doc,
Yes, I did disapear! I had exams! Can't wait for the end of the year when I'm done. The only reason I know how many chords I play is because I learn them for exams. Now if I take my violin and cello and piano chords into count...well, I can't count that far!! Although my violin and cello are more finger positions.
I think that it really doesn't matter how many chords you can play, it's what you do with them. I remember learning my first chords on guitar, A,E,D. and I was so proud of myself!
The more chords you play does obviously give you a wider option for sounds, but aren't the simplest songs always the greatest?

I think that as you get more confident you will pick things up a little easier, mainly because you are not intimidated by your instrument anymore. The more confident you are in your ability, the less you will shy away from more difficult things.

Hiya Doc,
I can play about 150 very well and about 30 more not so well. But I only have to read things once to memorise them.( I'm too lazy to go back and check stuff again.) Still, I play mostly classical because my strumming absolutely sucks!
Other than that I play alot of scales and do alot of theory, that helps a hell of alot to go further. But I am a theory junkie, I'll admit that.

Maybe it's just me but I don't think the prices you've mentioned are all that cheap. My first guitar cost £7 from a church sale, my next cost me about £50 and is now onto it's 3rd owner.

I agree alvee, The 500 mentioned  would set you back r7000 here in sa. The washburn and ibanez are considered good guitars here by us. But still I love my yamaha. It's 20 years old and sounds as good as ever.

That is the question...well, if the cat lands on it's back then you have obviously buttered the right side. If the cat lands on it's face then you obviously have not buttered the right side of the toast...get another cat, smear bread and repeat. When the cat lands on it's back...you have buttered the right side!
Alternatively, go to the pub and drink enough untill you see double cats...one of them is sure to land the right side up!!!
PS: This should be read in that annoying voice you  get on automated responses.

Hi
Here's something for you to ponder over.
What would happen if you tied a buttered peice of bread to the back of a cat, and then lobbed it out of a window?

Ark,

meowww....splat!

Here's a confucious take : Man who lives in glass house...best get dressed in basement.

How would you represent that? Like a timeline with 6 lines like written music and the different era's represented by notes which become progressively more modern until we reach chordie? You have some great ideas!

I just love that Why fret? let it slide

I agree, this is definately the best one. I doubt anyone can top it.

Murphy's law states that if you drop your toast and it does not fall on the buttered side....then you have buttered the wrong side.

I love this one! That's bloody good.

I agree. But the second line is a bit long for a T-shirt slogan. Could it be replaced with an image?

I didn't come up with that...mhebert did! But yes, perhaps an abstract guitar? Something that will make people really look to see what's on your shirt. I don't mean totally picasso but perhaps not just the usual guitar. And maybe instead of gibson or something you could use chordie as the brand?
Maybe not too colourfull, black and white. Where you use white as your base you can counterchange it with black and where you use black you can counterchange with white. And less colour = less expense.

Distribution points in europe and the us are all fine and well but what about the rest of us? We'll end up paying more because of shipping, etc.
Why not make a space where we can send designs to. That way we can vote for what we like and what is practical.

Hi Gene,

I play both 6 and 12 string...DO NOT REMOVE THE OTHER 6 STRINGS!!! The sound of a 12 string is beautiful. I play classical on my 12s so I pick it! It's the same as a 6s but you have more of a choice as to picking melodies. The sound a 12s can make is amazing. I can understand your discomfort on a thin neck. Both my 6 and 12 are broad necks.
Just keep at it, and before you know it you'll be picking up a storm on your 12string!
You can pick the same rythyms or patterns that you do on your 6s. The only difference is now you have more choice!
I found my 12s very intimidating at the begining but now I wouldn't swop it for the world.

bakkie ( pronounced bucky):  pick-up truck.

dop:  drink ( alchoholic)

braai ( pronounced br-i ):  BBQ

cherie, goose: a girl ( use only if you want a klap (pronounced klup) which is a slap )

stuk (pronounced stik ):  girlfriend or boyfriend

Look. I understand that the music business is just that...a business. With the  artist being a product but it seems to me that the emphasis nowadays is not on the actual quality of the music but the image of the artist.
It sometimes seems as if it doesn't matter how crappy you sing but do you  project the right marketable image.
So they have to market the artist where they are best...i.e. if they look good put them in as many videos as humanly possible and hope that nobody notices that they sound pretty lame.
Are the video's ruining music? I think they give too much exposure to mediocre artists who really can't compete with high quality artists in the field of actual music but look good enough to sell a few cd's before the bubble bursts.

I want one of those. I want to play bluegrass on it. There's nothing that beats that metally sound.
