Happy New Year to all our Chordie family and friends.

With Jan being busy right now I'm going to jump in here and try to get a few more names in the hat.

Who wants to pick the January FSOTM?

Belated Merry Christmas to all. I've been tied up with moving and haven't been around much the last month or so. Hope to be finished real soon.

Way to go Beamer. You never know what'll happen until you get out there and try. And yes, it does get easier the more you do it.

That was me too except I was 19.

Happy Birthday.

I've only been here since 2014 but I've met some great people in that time.

I have a rudimentary understanding of sheet music. I know the notes on the staff, a couple of the key signatures, the treble (G) and bass (F) clef, and the time signature. The key of C has no sharps or flats and E and B have no sharp. But I never took the time to actually learn to read the music. I read music the way a first grader would read a book. See Jane Run. See Spot Run.

Hoping to make it. Just back from Raleigh after playing Friday night with Cowboy Keith, Jetfly2112, and Scopolomine (band=Nine Ball Tight). I think I will arrive before dark Fri nite so as not to drive into the bog......

I was going to send an email but you beat me to it. Lol.  See you Friday. I'll be here all day.

Guess that would be up to the baker. smile

UJB, would you guess that there is a fairly strong "Musical Culture" in your area..... lots of stuff going on regularly and such ?

I would say the culture is reasonable. There's usually something going on from late spring through late fall. Mostly in small, intimate venues. Winter is pretty slow as far as musical culture events.

Doug,

I really like the way you make sure no one misses your point! :)l

lol lol lol Good one Bill!

The closest town to me has a pop. of around 12,000 and there are 3 private music stores just in the downtown area. The closest Big Box store is about 40 miles away. I like the small shops and do business with one of them on a regular basis.

First let me apologize for getting this up so late. I've had something to deal with that has left me in a bit of a daze.

Save the date. Oct. 5-6 and 7

Music and fun for everyone in the mountains of Central Pennsylvania.

I don't know that there is anyone that "influenced" me. When I started playing at 22, I just wanted to be able to play songs and it didn't matter to me if it sounded exactly like the original artist.

I was more "inspired" to be able to play. And not surprisingly, to anyone that knows me, Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead were the ones that  inspired me to hunker down and get serious about playing. Some of their more complex songs pushed me to learn more chords, different ways to play each chord and putting it all together so it somewhat resembled the original. But I've always been one to play a song the way it "felt" to me. As some of the folks around here know, my version of City of New Orleans doesn't sound like Steve Goodman, Willie Nelson or Arlo Guthrie. You will certainly recognize it but it's my own rendition.

I've been working on changing the way I play G. Always used the index, middle and pinky. I'm trying to make the adjustment to using the middle, ring and pinky to free up the index finger for fills. That dang muscle memory thing is proving to be harder to overcome than I thought it would be.

Yep. I'm all packed as well.

The only thing to do in the morning is fill the cooler with ice and throw the guitar in the trunk. I'll be leaving here around 7 and should arrive around noon.

I should roll in somewhere around noon. I have the traffic thing figured out, as best as possible.

If I leave here around 6:30-7:00, I miss the Harrisburg rush hour. Get near S/WB around 8:30-9:00 and miss their rush hour as well as Binghamton an hour later. Hit Syracuse before lunchtime traffic.

Barring any major construction or accident delays,  5 hours to the little lake. smile

ETA: Should I stop and kidnap TIGLJK on the way? lol

It's looking pretty strong - probably 90% - that I'll be there on Saturday late afternoon. I'll stay the night and head out Sunday morning. So not a long visit, but I will make it. I will not have any human companions.

Cool! See you there. smile

WOW! That's some list.

Although one of the songs I have to question.

I play 39 by Queen and I don't recognize the line: " No one listened to your plea's you created me."  It's not in any version I've ever seen.

I'm not looking forward to this trip to PA. I'll be up there Wednesday through Sunday. A lot of bridge crossings with two significant creeks and countless un-named ones, and every one of them will be a hazard.

The Swatara and the Conodoguinet are really bad right now and it's going to get worse. They're now talking about possible river flooding in the New Cumberland area. Map your route carefully.

Well it appears to be monsoon season in Pa.

We've had 6" of rain in the last 3 days and they're calling for 4"-5" more the next couple days. I'm thinking I should have started my ark a lot sooner. smile

So here's my deal. My sister lives in Elmira, which I think isn't too terribly far from ThemKidsFolks' house. With the process of getting my Dad's properties ready to sell, I'm going to have to take some furniture up to her. I bounced the idea of me taking the furniture to my sister and then heading over to Jim and Amy's for BYG, and she seemed OK with it.  I may have a child accompany, and may not. I may have a sibling accompany, and may not.

I'll try to make this work out. In the meanwhile, it's time to get my tent repaired.

Cool!

On a guess I would say about 2 hours from Elmira to Syracuse.
