God Shaped HoleMetal Fist - a jazz ensemble

[C]Everything I know the whole world around me

[F]Can be reduced to carbon from my surroundings

[C]It’s funny how we go through our whole lives doubting

[F]One thing or another while we hold our heads proudly

[C]A smile in my soul I’m so glad that you found me

[F]You couldn’t help but lend a hand you saw I was drowning

[C]Sprouting all these thoughts oh so deep in my mind

[F]They’re climbing to the surface I have no place to hide

[C]Though I tried to make it work it came as no surprise

[F]The negative effect I have on other peoples’ lives

[C]So I try to go alone but I just can’t survive

[F]I always end up feeling oh so empty inside

They [G]say it’s a [F]god shaped [C]hole

I [G]don’t know it’s [F]just what I’ve been [C]told

This [G]life is [F]such a heavy [C]load

[G]Carried out [F]into the great [C]unknown

[C]I don’t understand how people follow blindly

[F]Listen to their elders and then thank them kindly

[C]Every living moment all you do is remind me

[F]that we were never perfect but at least you tried me

[C]You gave me some one to bring out of hiding

[F]And when I shine my light it’s her inside me

[C]Now some people say there’s no money in love

[F]But yet the pay for it from the one up above

[C]I’ve come to the conclusion that I just can’t wait

[F]I’ve been left with all this time to contemplate

[C]Now it seems to me we can make our own fate

[F]It’s an awkward balance between love and hate

They [G]say it’s a [F]god shaped [C]hole

I [G]don’t know it’s [F]just what I’ve been [C]told

This [G]life is [F]such a heavy [C]load

[G]Carried out [F]into the great [C]unknown

[G]I [F]wish that I could [C]see

[G]what it is [F]thats waiting there for [C]me

Re: god shaped hole

hi there,

i suppose you could embellish this song with all sorts of fill-in chords, but i could imagine it with a bass/keyboard/drum backing and it just sort of builds up nicely, add a couple of harmonies on the second repeats of the verses and on the choruses, oohs and ahhs to build it up and you've got it. so why over complicate it?

nice work, liked the vid.

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

Re: god shaped hole

I need to invest in some way to record my songs in a better format but I'm definitely on a budget if you guys could recommend something I could use with my pc that would be great. Ive only played these songs for my friends and family I'm glad to hear other songwriters give me the ok.
Ive been looking up chords on this site for quite some time and was just recently searching google for a site where I could share my songs and hear what other people are doing, little did I know you guys were right here the whole time.

keep strummin

thanks

Re: god shaped hole

I thought this was great. The words drive this song and when that is the case, the melody can be less important.

Keeping things in C - throw in a few Am's, Dm's or Em's till you have a progression you like and then see what tunes you can find to suit them.

Hi shuvelhead

Check out the recording forum for lots of info on recording your songs to the PC.
Quite a few of us use Myspace to show case our songs also Soundclick Ourstage and Reverbnation all host songs for free. Each is a bit different it depends what you want to do with your songs…
Adding more chords to a progression could create more interest as would bass walks etc..
If your looking to embellish your songs with other instruments then multi tracking would be the way to go.

Re: god shaped hole

Wow.... good song bro.  You've got some depth. You know what? maybe it is a God shaped hole... there's gotta be something out there, you and I know it. It is God. He can fill you. I know it. Ask Him!

Anyway good song, keep on keepin on. Cheers! Liked the video, too.

Re: god shaped hole

When I write a song where I feel there aren't enough chords (pretty much every song I've ever written) I generally try and liven them up with hammer ons, pull offs....that can be a fairly easy way to embellish the chords you already have and can accentuate the notes in a very different way. maybe it'll help....maybe not....either way. Good song!

All I got, is a red guitar, three chords and the truth

Re: god shaped hole

Hey Shuvelhead I can't access the video from work but the lyrics are good. I agree with adding a few minor chords or 7ths to kind of pull away from the three chord standard. Great job though.
